A Story of Hair Regeneration The seeds of Replenology were planted in October 2007, when Deborah was enjoying a little trip away from home with her teenage daughter. Driving down South Ocean Boulevard in beautiful Sunny Isles, Florida, with the sun shining and singing to the latest hit on the radio, Deborah brushed the hair back from her face. But when her hand reached the back of her head, she knew something was terribly wrong. She felt a completely bald patch, perfectly circular and just larger than a pound coin or a US quarter.

Deborah’s first reaction was disbelief. For one who had hair so thick that stylists had charged her extra for a blow dry, this came as a complete shock, followed immediately by a knee-jerk reaction of terrible fear. Keeping her reaction from her daughter was a challenge and she didn’t mention her discovery to anyone, not even her husband. She became so concerned that she made an appointment with her family doctor on arrival home. The rest of what should have been a wonderful getaway was mired by Deborah’s underlying fear that was escalating by the hour.

LUX International Magazine Health, Beauty & Wellness Awards 2017 Replenology - Best Natural Solution for Thinning Hair Unfortunately, the family doctor didn’t have the answers Deborah wanted to hear. She was told it could be an autoimmune disorder called ‘Alopecia Areata’ and that a consult with a dermatologist would confirm whether the cause was fungal or unknown. Sure enough, the dermatologist confirmed that Deborah’s condition was not easily treatable as it was not fungal in nature and, the doctor had no treatment advice for her. As she found this unacceptable, Deborah sought out a new dermatologist for a second opinion.

What occurred next was absolutely shocking: the second dermatologist told Deborah she could indeed be prescribed medications, however, the drugs had a 75% chance of failing and came with potential negative side effects. Alternatively, the doctor told Deborah she could either endure painful steroid injections in her scalp, or just learn to live with the condition. What was even worse for Deborah to hear was that her hair loss would most likely worsen over time. Feeling utterly hopeless, downcast, and fearful, Deborah faced the reality that she could, in fact, go completely bald in her mid-forties.

Faced with the terrifying prospect of baldness, Deborah, who had always been focused on a natural and healthy lifestyle, began her own research into natural solutions for hair loss. Unfortunately, at that time there were no natural, scientifically proven options on the market, but she decided that she had nothing to lose by trying the few different natural products that were available.

With letdown after letdown and much optimism going down the shower drain with her hair, she was at a dead end. None of the products worked, even after giving them sufficient time to do what they had promised.

No one, and nothing, seemed able to deliver the help she desperately needed. The medical community offered a dismal 75% rate of failure, with potential side effects and a lifetime of drug use or painful treatments.

And, the thinner and patchier her hair became, the more she realized that there were people all around her suffering in silence without a healthy and effective solution. Never before had she truly seen the women and men affected by hair loss, but she now knew how millions of people were feeling.

A Floating Chinese Restaurant Moored against the backdrop of the canal of Regent Park, Feng Shang Princess Restaurant is a boat restaurant based in London’s trendy Primrose Hill, making for a perfect addition to any trip. We profiled the venue to find out about the restaurant, and its exemplary Chinese style food, as it is featured as 2017’s Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year 2017.

Feng Shang mainly serves typical Chinese dishes from the beginning, such as Sweet and Sour dishes, stir fried noodles, egg fried rice and duck with pancakes. Over a period of time, with the help of previous chefs, the restaurant has made some changes, and developed towards a more fine-dining Chinese dishes.

Aiming to offer a decedent array of delicacies to entice the taste buds, recently the restaurant’s menu shifted more towards a Pan-Asian styles, and as such some dishes from different regions in Asia, including Thai, Malay and Singapore were added. However, Feng Shang still offers the traditional and common Chinese dishes, notably Sweet and Sour Chicken, as this is a customer favourite. Succulent ribeye beef in black pepper and red wine sauce is a particular favourite for those seeking an authentic Asian meat meal, and to cater to all palettes there are also an array of vegetarian options, including the rich Shimeji mushroom and baby corn in vegetarian brown sauce.

Beautifully situated in Primrose Hill, this stunning location is unique and attracts many tourists. The venue deals with all sorts of customers, including those who have visiting London Zoo and fancy a bite to eat. There are others who enjoy the vibrancy of Camden Town and want to experience Feng Shang, and of course there are regular customers who go out to eat for a family meal.

Interestingly, the boat itself is an iconic symbol of the Regent Canal, and has been for decades. Subsequently, tourists who came to visit the area could not stop themselves from taking the pictures of the boat.

Constantly aiming to achieve excellence and ensure that only the best food and beverages are served, Feng Shang thrives to maintain the best quality of foods and drinks. The team work hard to ensure that all produces are fresh and of the best quality to serve to customers.

Once a guest has boarded the boat, staff work hard to ensure that the initial impression is favourable. Customers are given a warm greeting right from the moment that they walk in, and are seated at the table which they feel makes them the most comfortable, further enhancing their experience. Most of the success of the restaurant is a team effort, as management acknowledge.

Part of the restaurant’s mission and philosophy is to make guests and customers aware of how good authentic Chinese meals can be. Within the industry at the moment, there is a common misconception that Chinese takeaway food is a cheap and quick option, but at Feng Shang, customers can find gourmet gastronomy.

Looking ahead, Feng Shang are excited about introducing Dim Sum in the near future, which will be a challenge as the kitchen needs reorganising, but it is a challenge that the team are ready to embrace. There are also plans for the restaurant which will include a refurbishment, refitting and providing innovative interior designs of the boat itself, providing a more luxurious look, improving the customer’s dining experience.

Chelsea Flower London Dry Gin is the first gin created by the English Grocer and Royal Warrant, Holder who celebrate its 45th Anniversary in 2017. The name ‘Chelsea Flower Gin’ commemorates the historic association between the Kings Road flower nurseries, which date back to the 17th Century, and the location of Partridges’ flagship store in Duke of York Square.

Partridges, the independent family-run food market, was founded by Sir Richard Shepherd and first opened its door on Sloane Street, Chelsea in May 1972. In 1979 Sir Richard was elected to the House of Commons and in 1981 his younger brother John, who had joined the business as a student in 1972, took over the reins and is the current Managing Director.

In 1994 the shop was granted a Royal Warrant as Grocers to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and in 2008 John Shepherd was appointed the President of the Royal Warrant Holders Association. The Association comprises 800 firms who supply the Royal household on a regular basis. In 2012Partridges launched its Chelsea Flower Collection of upmarket groceries including floral teas, chocolates, fudge, biscuits, jelly and a range of gifts.

This established distiller has created a glorious celebratory spirit in Chelsea Flower Gin, a floral, refreshing spirit which is ideally pared with a luxury tonic water or can be served as part of an innovative cocktail.

Although this luxurious cocktail would make a delicious addition to any party, the gin itself is so smooth and sweet that it can also be enjoyed alone.

Fancy swapping your life in the UK for a change of pace, more sunshine and a home that earns you an income?

It seems that the recent Channel 4 series ‘Escape to the Chateau’ which follows a tenacious British couple restoring a shabby French chateau back to its former glory is inspiring many Brits to follow suit, with enquiries for similar properties on the up.

We look at some options for chasing l’art de vivre and steer you in a direction that hopefully will have you sitting on the terrace of your new home sipping a glass of wine, before you know it.

Gites Gites - rural holiday cottages- are probably what most people think of first, when you mention a French property business.

We asked Tim Swannie, Director of luxury French property search specalists Home Hunts, what are the factors you need to think about if buying a home and want to run a successful Gite business?

“The first things to consider are where will our guests come from? Is the property in a renowned tourist area? Or is it close to an attraction, a city, beach resort that might attract visitors? You should also research whether there is a golf course or similar attraction nearby that you could work with in hosting clients.

“As for the property itself, most people would prefer to stay in an older property with charm and character but they want modern facilities (new bathrooms, great wifi, air conditioning etc). Wifi is a big thing these days so check how good the signal is. The other thing is will you be offering food? If not, you need to be within walking distance of a restaurant or find out about food delivery services in the area. Many of your guests will be travelling or exploring all day and will want to relax in the evening with a bottle of wine and some nice food.”

Restoring a wreck The chateaux market is beginning to pick up having been given a recent boost from the Macron presidential victory.

Prices of chateaux have been stagnant for a while and sellers are now pricing to sell. Would-be owners need to also factor in the cost of upkeep of the home after any restoration, which can run into tens of thousands of pounds per year.

Often the most difficult decision to make is where to start looking for a property to renovate. “There are popular areas in all parts of France but you should be looking in areas where there seems to be a lot of demand. Popular areas in the south of France include the Dordogne, Languedoc Roussillon and Provence for example, rather than some of the more remote locations such as the Limousin. The property itself I would say needs to be an older property, ideally in stone with lots of charm. Many clients look for older, character homes but want modern/ contemporary interiors” Swannie advises.

Working Vineyards Finding a dream vineyard property without specialist guidance can be difficult. It is commonplace for agents to only have approximately 10% of the vineyard properties that are for sale on their books. Vineyard owners are particularly discreet as they don’t want their competitors or staff to know their property is on the open market - as a result buyers have to dig deeper.

Now, what are you waiting for, that glass of wine on your terrace is beckoning? can prove to be a highly savvy investment strategy for those buying a wine business. The concept of terroir encompasses location, soil, climate and grape variety, as well as the local culture and production methods. All these elements have an influence over the considered value of the terroir.

“We would recommend that clients look for quality terroir before considering location. Areas that could offer potentially lucrative investment opportunities include: the Côtes de Castillon ‘appellation’ near Saint-Emilion, and Montcaret and Montravel, areas around an hour east of Bordeaux. There are lots of areas throughout France’s many wine growing regions that offer interesting opportunities. Working with a vineyard specialist who can give advice and in-depth knowledge on this is a must for a serious vineyard investor,” says Rory.

“Finding and buying a vineyard takes time and less than 50 of the 7,000 vineyards in Bordeaux are sold each year. You have to be well-connected in the industry to know the true status of the properties up for sale and that’s why Home Hunts’ strong network and connections are crucial to buyers,” says Rory. Buy to Lets If you are looking for pure rental potential then location and length of season are certainly the most crucial factors

to consider. As an investor, the return on investment needs to be the main priority so you need to think about where your renting clients would come from outside the normal summer season. Research big events, trade fairs and so on which take place in the area throughout the year, or perhaps look for properties close to well-known golf courses or other popular leisure facilities.

Price is of course key too, buying a property which needs some work could be a wise choice, somewhere that you can add value. “If buying in the south of France then we would always recommend buying a property with some outside space too, whether it is a balcony or a garden; it is important that you have somewhere to enjoy the famous south of France weather,” says Swannie.

All areas (and most properties) will have some rental potential but certain locations offer a longer rental season than others. Cannes for example offers year round rental potential because, as well as the summer season, Cannes also has international trade fairs and festivals running from the famous “Palais des Festivals” for more than 300 days a year.

Financing the Property At present, interest rates are very low and there are some amazing mortgage deals available so even if you can afford to buy in cash outright, it might be worthwhile taking out a mortgage.

Fine-dining Alpine Tapas Menu by Yves Camdeborde Available at the M de Megève This winter, from December 2017 to April 2018, sought after chef Yves Camdeborde will hold the residency at leading French Alpine hotel: the 5-star, Small Luxury Hotel ‘’M de Megève’’.

The Bureau d’Etude Gastronomique and the Buildinvest Group, owner of the M de Megève, decided to invite the renowned chef Yves Camdeborde to create a luxury tapas menu for the M’s clients, in a collaboration that will marry talent, prestige and gastronomy with a love of the mountains.

Chef Yves Camdeborde is known as one of the founding fathers of the famous French ‘bistronomie’ movement, exemplified by the menu at his hotel-restaurant in Paris, the award winning Relais Saint Germain. He accepted the invitation to the Alps from Sébastien Ripari, owner of the Bureau d’Etude Gastronomique, as an opportunity to share his creativity, his expertise and his passion for gastronomy and has consequently created a fine-dining Alpine tapas menu for the hotel.

Originally from Béarn, in the Pyrenées, Yves Camdeborde started out in incredibly prestigious kitchens, including the Ritz and la Tour d’Argent. He also worked at the famous Crillon in Paris under the leadership of chef Christian Constant. His cuisine is very personal. He uses high-quality ingredients in sophisticated yet approachable dishes. His wish is to offer everyone the possibility of tasting French gastronomy in an atmosphere that represents him: friendly and welcoming.

He opened his first restaurant in 1992, La Régalade in Paris’ 14th arrondissement. For over 10 years, he offered his guests traditional yet inventive local dishes. Today, he is now the owner of the restaurant Le Comptoir in the heart of Saint Germain des Près in Paris, at the Carrefour de l’Odéon.

Yves Camdeborde is a recognised public figure, particularly thanks to his appearance on national TV channels like TF1, France Télévisons, M6, LCI… Passionate about Literature, he has published over ten cook books. He is now considered, in France and

around the world, as the pioneer and founder of this combination between bistro cuisine and gastronomy: Bistronomie Chef Camdeborde commented on his new appointment and the reasons behind his passion for Tapas.

“I come from the Pyrenées. I love the mountains just as much during the summer as in the winter, and Megève is a place that I hold particularly dear. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to create an original tapas menu for the stunning ‘M’ hotel. Why tapas? Tapas, for me, are the cousins of French hors-d’oeuvre. They are smaller in terms of portions, but are just as gastronomic while being explosive, surprising, different and delicious!
