AGA & JADWIGA
a hand
knitted poem
sister you will not turn to me for I dwell in forests and you dwell at sea
you will not take my trembling hand for you love the moss and I love the sand
sister you will not hush my cry for I left our home without a goodbye
I journeyed far to never return you stayed to show how well you could mourn how tidy a garden you could keep the prettier in it to sit and weep
when comes my turn a tear to shed
for I have no garden only regret
I only have secrets I only have scars I only have lonesomest sky and stars
sister you know what I say is true for you took my man and my women too
I gave you stayed you took
I went now we rejoin but years are spent
how much remains and is it enough for you to forgive that the sea was rough for me to forgive that the ground was dense we try as we rest on this bench by the fence
