TXOKOTERA GROUP PROJECT I 5 WEEKS The intention of this project is to update the design of a traditional object present in Basque culture: the chocolate pot. The aim is to adapt, renew and reinterpret this traditional object from a contemporary design point of view.

Product research S h a p e TO UNDERSTAND THE SHAPE OF THE PRODUCT IT MUST BE BROKEN DOWN INTO PARTS AND ANALYSED
Function ITS VISUAL APPEARANCE IS LINKED TO ITS FUNCTION
The chocolate pot consists of a hollowed cylindrical vessel with a flat base, or it may have legs on which it stands. It has a height of 20-30 cm and a base of about 10 cm in diameter.
Milk or water is poured into the pot and heated. Then the chocolate ounces are poured in until they melt and the desired smoothness is achieved.
It contains a lid with a hole through, where the whisk is inserted.
Its function is simple and it has intuitive elements that help understand the product.
The handle is located on the side of the vessel, oriented horizontally.

BASIC MATERIALS THAT FULFIL THEIR FUNCTION
REDESIGN COMPOSED OF BOTH TRADITIONAL AND MODERN ELEMENTS
The oldest chocolate pots were made of materials such as copper or brass. In the course of the 19th century they were replaced by models made of cast iron.
The chocolate pot is a product that for many years has served to bring Basque families together to enjoy such a popular food as chocolate.
The handle can be made of the same material as the pot or of other materials such as wood. The whisk is usually made of wood.
The redesign has to reflect the updated cultural context of the object, transforming it into a product that could be seen in any 21st century kitchen.
TRADITION
Brainstorming AESTHETIC LINKED TO ITS FUNCTION The challenge was to change the aesthetics of the product without losing the essence of it. To achieve this, we opted for ergonomic and simple shapes, more in line with current trends. On the other hand, we opted to maintain traditional elements and materials so as not to lose part of the tradition of the chocolate pot.

ORANGE COMB GROUP PROJECT I 7 WEEKS The following project is carried out for the Cluster call for the National Packaging Design and Sustainability Awards. These awards aim to promote innovation, design and sustainability in the sector and to strengthen the link between the business and university worlds. In this case, it is in collaboration with the company La Plana. The aim is to propose sustainable solutions for the replacement of current plastic containers and packaging for different fruit and vegetable products on the market.

LIFE: Oranges can be kept at room temperature for two to three weeks, and one to two months if stored in the refrigerator.
VITAMINS: A, B, C & E
PACKAGING FOR ORANGES To start with this project, we decided to focus our design on one product: oranges.
TYPE: Orange
DIAMETER: 6 - 10 cm
Packaging for oranges is usually the same: they come in large nets made out of plastic. With this packaging design we want to replace the use of plastic with a more environmentally friendly material, to give the users a more eco-friendly alternative.
Ainara Urra I PORTFOLIO I 2022
APPEARANCE: - Fresh oranges have a bright colour. - May have wrinkles in the skin - Should feel heavy for their size and impart a sweet aroma.

REGULAR ORANGE CONSUMER Our target consumer is a young person who usually goes shopping for the whole family. They prefer to buy in smaller quantities and more often so they do not have to carry so much weight. This person is environmentally concerned and tries to avoid plastic. They have an active and healthy lifestyle and love spending time in family.
MOST COMMON PROBLEMS WITH ORANGES NETS Too much plastic is used for the regular packaging of oranges
The oranges are damaged due to the poor protection offered by the net.
The transport is uncomfortable and the product is too heavy.
F i r s t i d e a s SHAPE AND FUNCTION EXPLORATION Generate ideas to try to respond as well as possible to the problems established. It also has been carried out a simple shape exploration, where the efficiency has been studied depending on how well the orange fit the shape and how stackable they were. The main idea was to create a packaging that would stand out in its own market, going out of the conventional and opting for less used shapes.
Ainara Urra I PORTFOLIO I 2022
Creating a concept Branding building A LOGO AND A NAME FOR ORANGES PACKAGING It also has been made a branding research, where different shapes and names have been created. The main idea was to combine the shape of the packaging (hexagon) and the product inside (oranges). The aim was to create a graphic symbol that would clearly identify the product among others. To achieve this, the design had to be simple and directly related to the product.
O ra n g e C o m b PACKAGING SOLUTION The packaging consists of two parts: the outer and the inner layers. The outer layer is used to transport and protect the product. The inner layer is where the oranges are placed. When the outer layer is removed (by moving it horizontally) the oranges remain in the inner storage. The packaging is designed to be used as storage for the oranges themselves.

Compact cardboard
INSIDE LAYER
SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL The proposed packaging solution is made of compact cardboard. This material is light, strong and flexible, ensuring proper product protection. In addition, thanks to its efficient folding techniques, complex packaging designs can be offered. The packaging offers an alternative to the plastic products currently used for the packaging of oranges. Compact cardboard is an environmentally friendly material, 100% recyclable and reusable.

This packaging has been designed to be easily stackable during the distribution process.

Added value When analysing the netting of the oranges, it was found that the product was discarded and the oranges were placed in another container (fruit bowl, basket...). As an added value, we wanted to increase the shelf life of the product. To solve this problem, an inner packaging in the form of a tray was designed to store the oranges in the same packaging.
