YEAR IN REVIEW
2
016 has been as busy a year as ever for the AIP! With the National Conference, training courses, technical dinners and site visits running across Australia and New Zealand over the last 12 months the Institute is extremely proud of the extensive amount of quality educational events that it has run for the wider industry. Highlights for the year include the launch of the Save Food Packaging Awards, the launch of the Packaging & Innovation & Design Awards, our first exhibit at ProPak Asia and attending the NZ tradeshow FoodTech PackTech. The Certified Packaging Professional program has started to take momentum in Australasia and the AIP has seen an extremely high interest in the program. The ultimate goal would be to see every packaging department in Australasia have staff with the CPP designation. SAVE FOOD PACKAGING AWARDS The Save Food Packaging Awards were developed by the World Packaging Organisation, in conjunction with Messe Dusseldorf and Interpack, and are designed to recognise companies who are developing innovative and sustainable packaging that minimises food losses and food waste, extends shelf life and improves the supply of food. A key purpose of the Save Food Packaging Awards is to raise awareness of the critical role of packaging in reducing food waste resulting in a positive overall environmental impact. The AIP believes that it is time that packaging technologists design packaging to save food and we are very proud that we were the first country in the world to establish the Save Food Packaging Awards program. PACKAGING & INNOVATION DESIGN AWARDS The AIP and the APPMA, are pleased to advise that they have established the Packaging & Processing Innovation and Design Awards (PIDA) for Australia that will recognise companies and individuals who are making a significant difference in their field. The Packaging & Processing Innovation & Design Awards will recognise companies designing innovative packaging and processing materials and solutions, packaging and machinery/equipment within the Food, Beverage, Health, Beauty & Wellness and Domestic & Household markets. We encourage everyone in industry to nominate for these industry awards.
