Junee Lamb & Sealed Air
Sealed Air is thrilled to receive 2x WorldStar Packaging Awards from the WPO for our ANZ business. These awards are a great way to showcase the strides being made in sustainable packaging. All too often packaging is getting a bad wrap, this is a chance to shine a light on some of the great innovations in packaging that are working towards delivery of sustainability goals in our region. Working with Junee Lamb to reduce food waste and NZ Post to increase circularity of flexible plastics are great examples of packaging delivering our societies environmental goals - halving food waste by 2030 and achieving circularity with recycled content by 2025. This is also a chance for our team to celebrate and reflect on the value of all the hard work behind the scenes that go into these projects. From collaborating with partners in the supply chain, Junee and NZ Post, to the concepts and design teams to the pioneering efforts to develop recycling programs. This is a great result to celebrate for the large teams behind these projects and a great way to finish 2021. Thanks WPO. Alan Adams MAIP, Sustainability Director APAC, Sealed Air

AIP heads back to ProPak Asia after 3 years
T
he AIP headed back to ProPak Asia for the first time in three years and it was wonderful to be back in Thailand in person providing educational activities for the attendees.
The AIP not only had a stand within the Australian Pavilion at the four day tradeshow, but the Institute also ran the fourth annual Global Packaging Forum in partnership with Informa Markets, a training course on Sustainable Packaging Design and a new Flexible Packaging workshop. All three educational events were well-attended with exceptional speakers and topics, and the new Flexible Packaging Workshop was standing room only. The room had to be opened up twice to extend the seating which was a great problem to have on the day! The AIP would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the speakers for taking time out of their busy schedules to be a part of the week and to all of the wonderful team at Informa Markets. A special thanks must go out to Ralph Moyle, Joe Foster and Mark Kelton for the hard work during the week. We look forward to ProPak Asia 2023.

To be held alongside AWRE
WHEN: 24 August 2022 WHERE: AWRE 2022, International Convention Centre Sydney WHAT: One of the fastest growing segments of the packaging industry, flexible packaging combines the best qualities of plastic, film, paper and aluminium foil to deliver a broad range of protective properties while employing a minimum of material. Typically taking the shape of a bag, pouch, liner, or overwrap, flexible packaging is defined as any package or any part of a package whose shape can be readily changed. Leading the way in packaging innovation, flexible packaging adds value and marketability to food and non-food products alike. From ensuring food safety and extending shelf life, to providing even heating, barrier protection, ease of use, resealability and superb printability, the industry continues to advance at an unprecedented rate. The life cycle attributes of flexible packaging demonstrate many sustainable advantages. Innovation and technology have enabled flexible packaging manufacturers to use fewer natural resources in the creation of their packaging, and improvements in production processes have reduced water and energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and volatile organic compounds. The Flexible Packaging: Now & Into the Future training course will cover the basic fundamentals of flexible packaging, its benefits, how you chose the specific structures to match the product, its performance, marketing challenges and how the packaging is manufactured. With the latest challenges facing us regarding sustainability in packaging the course will discuss the options, pros and cons of Compostability vs Recyclability and other alternative materials now available.
