LETTER FROM THE GENERAL DIRECTOR
ANA ESEVERRI General Director AIPC Pandora
I want to share with you a few words about AIPC Pandora, the organization I founded 15 years ago together with a group of experienced and committed professionals from different backgrounds, with the desire to expand international education in Spain. In my case I began my experience in international education at the age of 14 and since I participated in my first program, my interest for the world and its citizens has never stopped growing. I very quickly understood the complexity of intercultural understanding and at the same time the crucial importance of its achievement. It is also true that many times I asked myself if education alone was sufficient to ensure global peace, and even under the current complex
circumstances, my answer is always yes. Maybe the problem is that education is still not accessible to everyone, and only a small part of the young population has the possibility to participate in international education. AIPC Pandora’s goal is to make this type of nonformal and experiential education accessible to as many young people as possible around the globe. We network with the biggest international platforms, we take an active role in the main European programmes that allow the creation of innovative programs, and we strive to innovate by creating as many opportunities as possible both in Spain and in the 57 counties where our programs take place.
3
ABOUT

Since 2002, AIPC Pandora’s work has focused on arranging international itineraries for humanitarian, educational, intercultural or work and travel programmes. Our programs include the entire cycle of each project and accompany the volunteer before, during and after the international experience. Before –Preparation phase; Learning Experience
During – Action phase; International Experience
After – Transformation phase; Active Participation
4
HIGHLIGHTS •
AIPC Pandora – a not for profit intercultural exchange organization.
•
AIPC Pandora was founded in Madrid in 2002.
•
Member of Federation EIL, Sentio, Anna Lindh Foundation, CIVICUS and many other platforms in Spain.
•
Active in 54 countries, with both inbound and outbound projects.
•
The objective; to innovate and promote international experiential education with experiential projects based on solidarity, education, intercultural learning and work experience.
•
Generating equal opportunities; with a scholarship program for dynamic and unprivileged students.
METHODOLOGY We base our work and the design of our programs on the Global Service Learning methodology, which is defined as an educational approach that combines learning objectives with community service in order to provide a pragmatic, progressive learning experience whilst meeting societal needs. Service learning involves students in service projects that apply their classroom learning to local agencies that exist to affect positive change in the community. In order to adapt to this methodology we have reinforced the pre-departure training and the on-going mentoring and evaluation to include continuous reflection on the action being developed. And on their return all parties are evaluated (students, leaders, local communities and partners) and there is certification of the experience. Our international network is very extensive; globally we belong to large networks, whilst also cultivating partnerships with small local organisations.
5
INTERNATIONAL NETWORKS AND PLATFORMS We are a member of: Federation Experiment in International Living (EIL); an international non-profit association representing a global network of independent members in 21 countries worldwide. Sentio Inc; a not-for-profit global education network that was created in 2014 as a subsidiary of AFS Intercultural Programs, Inc. (AFS) to develop a global network of member organizations that will further promote the AFS mission and provide intercultural learning opportunities for adults. Anna Lindh Foundation; in which we are members of the Spanish Network’s Steering Committee, the only consultant entity of the Euro-Mediterranean government network formed by civil society organizations that work towards complete integration in the region. Erasmus +; we are recognized by the European Union as a sending and hosting organization for Erasmus +, actively working on all key actions of the current program. Bilateral agreements; AIPC Pandora also works outside international structures and has made a large number of bilateral agreements with organizations from all around the world.

THE SPANISH LANGUAGE AND THE METHODOLOGY USED
Spanish language learning is transversal in all our programs. In some programs it is so important that we work with Las Malas Lenguas. This is a language school co-op focused on making learning a language an experience that goes much further than the classroom. Our method advocates a pedagogical method that jumps from the classroom to the street and vice versa. We make the most of all that a city like Madrid has to offer, in order to generate debates about what is happening around us and what concerns us as a society. We don’t use textbooks. For the mentoring of students outside of class we use a personalized online tool oriented to maintain constant communication between teachers and students. This interactive resource permits this monitoring before and after the class, and includes the interactive download and editing of materials that are dealt with in each particular course. All the programs can include a complementary language course. It won’t be a course separated from the rest of the experience of the group program, in fact completely the opposite- we will practice language models and content in class that you can use to make the most of all the programmed activities and visits during your trip.
7
OUR PR Our programs are completely centred on experiential learning, in which we generate the curiosity and knowledge necessary from the students with their participation, their life experiences and the process of reflection that results from their actions during the programs. Tailor made programs: These are adapted to every centre´s needs and to the complete educational cycle. They may focus on specific subjects related to a particular centre´s educational content, or on historical, cultural or environmental aspects relevant to the country in which the program takes place. Language learning: Programs are conducted fully in Spanish, and intensive language courses may be taken additionally. Homestay: Students mainly stay with local families and engage in activities that enable total immersion in the local community and culture. Global Issues: Programs are based on the major global challenges of our societies, and encourage young people to take a stance on these issues, promoting proactivity and participation on their return back home. Volunteering: Programs present volunteers with real issues and foster proactivity and commitment in regards to various causes. Activities are specifically designed for each respective age group as an introduction to international volunteering. Empowerment:
Programs are structured according to the FEIL network´s resources. This network is one of the leading international exchange structures in the world. Students are guided by a local group of leaders who ensure the educational, intercultural and experiential success of the experiences.
8
ROGRAMS Safety and Risk Limitation: We prioritise the participant’s safety and wellbeing, and use mechanisms to prevent and limit potential risks and conflicts, as well as having specialised staff in situ. Full support: All programs are led by a professional group leader specifically trained by us and with ample previous experience. The leader will ensure the apt execution of logistics and the transmission of knowledge foreseen in the thematic project. Our programs are based on competencies development, and we offer an in-deep analysis based on real experiences. The following are the skills guaranteed in our programs:
• Self-knowledge • Intercultural communication • Emotional intelligence • Linguistic competencies • Critical thinking • World view • Leadership • Team building • Technical thinking We cover a vast range of areas in our programs, and according to this capacity but we prefer to work one-to-one with our partners, adapting and tailor-making the programs.

THREE CULTURES OF THE MEDITERRANEAN Immersion and exploration of the occidental culture through an Arabic, Jewish & Christian perspective Location: Madrid-Toledo-Granada
The history of Spain is a compendium of inuences from the different cultures that have existed in the country. Relations between Muslims, Jews, and Christians have been shaped not only by the theologies and beliefs of these three religions, but also, and often more strongly, by the historical circumstances in which they are found. Few time periods in world history offer as unique a glimpse into cultural cohabitation as the one in medieval Spain following the Arabic invasion and preceding the Christian reconquest. Democracy and human rights as they are currently understood originated from this period, and the exploration of this history will bring a broader understanding of these important values in our modern society. Toledo has always been known as a city of tolerance, or as the City of Three Cultures, with the coexistence of Jews, Muslims and Christians living side by side. The Translation School allows us to learn about the great philosophers and their legacy. The Muslim culture was prevalent for many centuries in Granada and we can still see the power and beauty of Arabic culture and civilization.

SPANISH ART, LANGUAGE & CULTURE Spain is Culture Location: Madrid-Seville-Jerez de la Frontera-Granada-Barcelona Bilbao-Vitoria-Biarritz-San Sebastián
When you think of stereotypical Spanish culture you probably envisage a land of flamenco dancing and bullfighting, as portrayed by the typical travel media. Yet these traditional elements of Spanish society are essentially regional in nature and are barely part of daily life on a national scale. All these elements are representative of Spanish culture. The focus of this program is to establish a broad vision of society, culture and art in modern Spain. We propose an extensive program with those differences that converge at the crossroads of civilizations, cultures and landscapes, reinvigorating the current Spanish reality. The participants will be guided by a certified language professor and art expert throughout their journey.
