It is important for us to cherish the memory of our visionary company founder. For this reason we have dedicated a glass cabinet in our office, which, among personal memories, shows awards, he has received throughout his lifetime. After the death of DI Werner Hochegger I assured you that the business will continue as usual for you and I am convinced that I could keep my promise. The sales figures speak for themselves, because we are heading straight for another record year, and this has been made possible primarily by our excellent cooperation. We are already looking forward to the upcoming year with great excitement, because some important projects will be implemented next year and in some cases the preparations for this have already started.

Take advantage of the coming holidays to replenish your forces and to be prepared for the new year with fresh energy. Nice relaxing holidays and all the best. Yours Jürgen Unterrainer

THE WORLD OF

AIRCONDITIONING

AIR-COND has grown steadily over the last few years, with one record year following the next. 2019 will be the most successful year in AIR-COND‘s 42-year history. A hot summer, a broad product portfolio, a strong team and a well-structured network of partners make such a success possible.

NEWS FROM GRAZ

Due to constant growth and an increasing number of employees, we are reaching our limits with the currently available premises. For this reason, we are pleased that the planning of our first own company location is already in progress. At the moment we are looking for a property in the south of Graz. In addition to office space, the new company building will also provide space for a TOSHIBA competence center and offer a combination of training and exhibition area. Also in terms of organizational structure, we have moved forward. Since it is important for Mr. Unterrainer to ensure that all processes can continue as usual even in his absence, the company structure will be clearer in the future. As technical director, Markus Pichler is responsible for all technical matters. Mr. Christian Fitz, Sales Director, responsible for our entire sales area, and Ms. Bianca Jeller, Administration Director, share joined power of attorney of AIR-COND from October 1st, 2019.

2020 is waiting for you with a lot of new things at TOSHIBA and AIR-COND. Currently, hot summer months are still the most important indicator of whether a fiscal year is more or less successful. In order to compensate for this seasonal fluctuation, the product portfolio has been supplemented in recent years with the heating system air-towater heat pump ESTIA and, above all, the VRF project business is being actively supported during the winter months. In the future, the product range will be further enlarged and from autumn 2020 the innovative, and in Japan extremely successful, TOSHIBA Universal Smart X Edge Chiller system will be available in Europe as well. In terms of the company, too, we are looking forward to an exciting AIR-COND year 2020. A new company location, new team members and a new management team are just a few of the future plans of Managing Director Jürgen Unterrainer.

Air Purification Systems in TOSHIBA‘s Split Air Conditioners for Home Applications: Take a Deep Breath! The current generation of popular hiwall indoor units contains everything you need to keep you healthy and comfortable. But what is behind it in detail? Follow us through this Ultimate Guide to TOSHIBA Air Quality. What does the term good climate mean for us? First and foremost, we intend a room temperature that feels comfortable and is independent of the time of year. But when it comes to comfort or human performance, we have to consider not only the temperature but also the humidity - a so-called comfort field defines this context and thus the area in which we feel most comfortable and are capable of mental and physical high performance. TOSHIBA systems create a perfect room climate through the combination of intuitive user control with the in-house hybrid inverter technology and the twin rotary compressors: intelligent energy-efficient control produces precisely the required amount of cooling or heating energy that suits the current load requirement. Without noticeable fluctuations, the air conditioning system follows the heating and cooling profile of the rooms - both in cooling and in heating mode.

The World of Toshiba

What would you like? In principle, air filters can be divided into four categories: 1) Dust filters 2) Filter strips with natural substances 3) Electric filters & air purifiers 4) Specialized filters

THE WORLD OF Dust filters are made of a special fine mesh plastic fabric. They clean the air of all coarser impurities and dust particles. It is important that, as with TOSHIBA, they cover the entire heat exchanger and are easy to remove and clean. The dust filters are durable and can be cleaned depending on the degree of contamination with water or simply with a vacuum cleaner. Filters with natural substances, like the TOSHIBA IAQ filter. These are specially coated blue / green filter strips that purify the air with the help of silver and enzymes extracted from kimchi. The IAQ filter has a deodorizing effect, refreshes the air and can significantly contribute to the health and neutralization of viruses and bacteria. TOSHIBA combines the IAQ filter with an electric filter system or standard dust filters, depending on the model of the indoor unit. Optionally, active carbon catechin filter strips can be used. The combination of activated carbon and catechin effectively counteracts unpleasant odors. Catechin is a natural substance extracted from green tea; it has a cleansing and antibacterial effect. Filter strips can be used with all hiwall and console devices. Depending on the load, they are cleaned regularly with a vacuum cleaner and should be replaced every two years during maintenance. Electric filters & air purifiers work in TOSHIBA‘s top class indoor wall units SHORAI PREMIUM and DAISEIKAI. For both, the function is activated by pressing the PURE button on the remote control - it then operates either independently as an air purifier or in conjunction with the heating or cooling operation of the system.

AIRCONDITIONING

The plasma filter with ionizer absorbs & neutralizes articles of the size of fine dust, pollen, mold spores and viruses - smaller than 0.001 μm! In the DAISEIKAI devices the filter works in three stages: 1. The ion charger positively charges impurities in the intake room air; 2. Negatively charged ions in the collector attract larger positively charged pollutants; 3. Remaining particles are collected by the positive charge in the second collector. Finally, the neutralized particles absorbed on the specially coated heat exchanger are drained along with the condensed water. The very small pico-ions produced by the DAISEIKAI ionizer also have a positive influence on the moisture and elasticity of our skin. This effect has been demonstrated by Kyoto Pharmaceutical University through tests and measurements of the keratin layer of the skin. The air purification system in the SHORAI PREMIUM uses the same principle of air ionization - but here the focus is on the production of ozone. Ozone is a highly reactive, colorless gas with a chemically very unstable molecular structure. It can easily split other molecules, thus destroying germs and eliminating unpleasant odors. Ozone is a powerful oxidant that is completely harmless to humans in low concentrations. After reaction with dirt particles, it converts into oxygen.

Of course, high-quality air-conditioning systems, cannot perform miracles - they cannot protect us from an insidious flu in winter, nor shield us from the ubiquitous pollen in summer. TOSHIBA, however, has one goal in mind: by choosing a single or multi-split system with the appropriate indoor configuration, these products will not only make your life and / or work easier - they will give you a better quality of life, which other lifestyle products cannot offer. You do not have to live in the city to appreciate the benefits of clean air and healthy surroundings - well-being is everywhere!

CONVENTION SKOPJE 2019 The format of the TOSHIBA Convention for all export partners has established itself in recent years as an important platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience in daily use of TOSHIBA products. Every year, this AIR-COND event takes us to another distribution country, giving all participants the opportunity to get an insight into the culture, cuisine and to see sights of our 11 sales countries. The 11th Convention took place this year in Skopje, the capital of Northern Macedonia. We welcomed our partners, starting with a guided tour through Skopje and beer tasting in a local brewery. In the evening we ended with a wine tasting at sunset over the city and a dinner in a winery.

As usual, the Convention day focused on concentrated product information. News from our technical department, marketing and corporate policy developments completed the program. We were also very happy to have five guests from TOSHIBA • Jean-François Hendrickx (EMEA Toshiba Sales & Marketing Director) • Yuriko Abo (EMEA Toshiba Brand Manager) • Simon Dobez (EMEA Toshiba Product Manager) • Nobuyuki Takeya (TCEU Chief Technical Director) • Mark Davidson (TCEU Technical Manager) who honored us with their visit and reported latest news from production sites and the headquarter. Product highlights of the Convention were first insights into the new VRF device series SMMS-u and first information on the portfolio expansion with TOSHIBA Chillers. Look forward to the new Chillers from TOSHIBA, which have already established themselves very successfully in the Japanese market. This product line will be adapted specifically for the European market and will be available in the AIR-COND sales area from autumn next year. An enjoyable evening overlooking the roofs of Skopje with a view of the old town completed the 11th Convention.

AIRCONDITIONING

NEW HIGH WALL

The powerful, efficient and easy to install air conditioner offers a compact and elegant design and effective air distribution. Ideal for use in small retail and grocery stores, restaurants or hairdressing salons, this compact and easy-to-install device can easily and costeffectively cool or heat large areas without the need for a major investment.

Project Independent Compatible with either TOSHIBA’s Digital or Super Digital Inverter in monosplit configuration, with master-slave set-up, this new low-cost unit can boost comfort and maximize energy efficiency to meet customer needs. Its auto-louver mode enables optimum and uniform air distribution, maximizing airflow to 1,610 m3/ hour, while the sound level is limited to just 41 decibels. The class-leading unit is Eurovent-certified and can achieve 10 kW/ 4 hp in cooling and 11 kW in heating.

In addition to standard controls, the unit’s wireless remote control also offers pre-set functions accessible via dedicated buttons: hi-power mode, quiet mode and comfort sleep. For advanced functionality, such as scheduling or energy monitoring, TOSHIBA‘s wired remote controllers are compatible. Via the optional TCC-Link adapter, the device can be integrated in VRF control systems or connected to network devices such as central or BMS controllers. Environmental performance The unit uses R32 refrigerants with low global warming potential, offering energy efficient A++ cooling and A+ heating performance, and achieving Class No.1 seasonal efficiency for both SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) & SCOP (Seasonal Coefficient of Performance). It is approved for many European incentive programs, including ECA (Enhanced Capital Allowance) in the UK and EIA (Energy Investment Allowance) in the Netherlands, qualifying the energy-saving equipment for accelerated tax relief. Makes life easy The unit is equipped with a self-cleaning function that reduces damp and prevents mould formation on the heat exchanger coils to simplify maintenance, thanks to the combination of special aluminium-coated fins. Magic Coil® facilitates condensate water evacuation, helping prevent water and dust from sticking to the coil, to provide healthy, fresh air for longer and maintain high efficiency levels. When the air conditioning is switched off to drain a contaminated coil, the fan continues to operate, keeping the coil clean and dry, and helping ensure long-lasting performance and high-quality air circulation. The embedded long-life filter in its enhanced filtration system can also easily be cleaned.

VISIT TO AIR-COND Recently we were able to welcome a visit from AIR-COND‘s past. Mrs. Heide Maria Bauer visited our company location in Graz. In March 1989, she invited Mr. Unterrainer to a job interview and thus significantly influenced the history of AIR-COND. After 6 years of working together, Mrs. Bauer left the company. Mr. Unterrainer will be forever indebted to her for the opportunity he has received back then!

TOSHI BEAR When it is getting colder and foggy outside and first snowflakes are spotted, then it‘s time to review the past year. This year began with a big change for us, as we had to say goodbye forever to our founder and owner at the end of the last one. With the usual, full commitment in combination with all AIR-COND advantages, such as a huge warehouse, the team was able to start the year very successfully (of course, a heat wave in late summer is always beneficial) and so the year 2019, together with our partners, led to the most successful financial year of our company history. But even if we bears usually go into hibernation, there is hardly any time this year. Too many interesting challenges are waiting for us, the preparations for the 2020 season are running at full speed. Not only are we planning a new office building, but new products such as the TOSHIBA Chiller open up completely new business opportunities for us. They of course require tremendous preparation before they can be launched successfully in our markets. You can be reassured that we will do our utmost to ensure that together with you we are successful with this important product.

10

The World of Toshiba

But also in other product segments a lot of new things will happen, new names like SHORAI EDGE, SMMS-u or ESTIA All-in-One will accompany us and you on many presentations and announcements. Even though, heatwaves are indeed helpful for our sales, we of course see every heatwave at the same time also critical and with concern for our planet. Therefore, I am happy to know that TOSHIBA is committed to resource-saving and highest energy efficiency in all its developments, and that we, as an importer, have very stringent F-gas quotas regulations and will also contribute to the phasedown scenario over the next couple of years. A campaign specifically for ESTIA, our air-to-water heat pump, is also helping to replace many of the old CO2-emitting heaters with a highly efficient alternative. So, let’s take the foggy and cold nights to get some rest, gathering energy for all the interesting tasks next year. The TOSHI Bear wishes you a happy Christmas and some quiet days with your loved ones. MERRY CHRISTMAS Yours TOSHI Bear
