IMPORT NEWS Keeping a watchful eye on a functioning supply chain
EDITORIAL
The heat pump market is booming like never before. As things stand, A2W sales will account for around 25 % of our total sales this year. While the ESTIA was still the “black sheep” in our portfolio in recent years, many customers have now recognized its potential and it has established itself as one of the most important systems in our product family. Supplies are on their way and units will be arriving continuously in the upcoming weeks. Besides the hype about our A2W heat pump, we should not forget one thing. Our air conditioners are also heat pumps and are especially suitable as a supplement to or relief from conventional heating systems for heating!
What else can we look forward to in the coming year? A few highlights will be added to our product range, including the new Shorai Edge Black, which will enrich our portfolio with its black appearance, or the new SHRMa, which heralds the new era of the next VRF generation from TOSHIBA. We can be curious about it!
Dear partners, on behalf of the entire team, I want to thank you for your trust and your loyalty this year. You are the basis of our existence. We will now take a short break over the Christmas holidays and then start the year 2023 with freshly refuelled forces.
Dear TOSHIBA partners,
once again it is close to Christmas, and we look back on an exciting business year.
The youngest member of our product family, the USX, has also been well received on the market and we can already proudly look back on very satisfied customers.
I wish you a blessed Christmas and a happy, healthy and successful New Year.
Yours, Jürgen Unterrainer
Our air conditioners are also heat pumps and are especially suitable as a supplement to or relief from conventional heating systems for heating!

SHRM ADVANCE
Technology in elegant design
Modern customers demand air conditioning systems that are not only characterised by optimal operating performance, energy efficiency and user-friendliness, but also by a pleasing design. With the new Shorai Edge Black, TOSHIBA presents the versatile allrounder that convinces both technically and aesthetically.
Air conditioners don’t always have to be white, as proven by the new Shorai Edge in black. Thanks to the matt finish of the indoor unit and its compact size, it fits into any living room, wheth-
er classic or modern. The device is controlled by means of the enclosed infrared remote control or via APP on the smartphone. The WiFi adapter is already integrated in the unit as standard! With Energy Monitoring, you can keep an eye on the exact power consumption at all times.
The Shorai Edge range offers ultimate comfort all year round. Even at outdoor temperatures as low as -25°C, the unit keeps your home pleasantly warm. TOSHIBA’s unique on-demand defrost function ensures that the unit can be used even in extreme
Decarbonise commercial buildings and decrease running costs with the new TOSHIBA SHRM Advance HVAC system
The latest VRF generation from TOSHIBA uses the refrigerant R32 and reduces CO2 emissions by 70 %. This supports the operator on the path to climate neutrality. W ith the SHRM Advance, operators of office buildings, large shops and restaurants, healthcare facilities and educational institutions now have the opportunity to achieve the best sustainability and climate standards. It can be configured as either a two- or
temperature conditions and is cleared of ice at the touch of a button. Likewise, excellent energy efficiency ratings of A+++ for heating and A++ for cooling speak in favour of the Shorai Edge and ensure a reduction in energy consumption 365 days a year.
Not a fan of draughts? Neither are we! Here too, Shorai Edge units apply specially shaped air outlet louvers that do not blow air straight away from the unit but direct it in a wide arc along the ceiling.
TOSHIBA Digital Inverter Classic brings affordable, highly effective air conditioning to light commercial workspaces
The Digital Inverter and Super Digital Inverter series have established themselves in the market since their introduction in 2003. TOSHIBA nevertheless sets itself the goal of ensuring its reputation for exceptional quality and reliability in the world market through continuous development. The company has incorporated these latest developments into the new Digital Inverter Classic, which features an inno-

three-pipe system, i.e. for either heating or cooling or simultaneous heating and cooling. The SHRM Advance always regulates the temperature so that pleasant and comfortable working conditions prevail, regardless of the location in the building. This is also made possible by a new generation of innovative and compact flow boxes with up to 12 connections for more flexibility in the planning phase.
Other innovations – a new twin-rotary compressor with liquid injection, a split heat exchanger, a subcooler, a highly efficient fan motor and a unique refrigeration circuit – all contribute to
peak efficiency values. The system has a heat recovery function that supplies heat to the indoor unit with the participation of the outdoor condenser. This also saves energy and reduces the CO2 balance. If desired, the SHRM Advance can be configured as a two-pipe heat pump system. Additional modules for building ventilation and water heating are also available. The Eurovent-certified SHRM Advance has been designed with flexibility in mind to ensure that installers can easily meet the requirements of any commercial building project. The reduced overall height of only 1.69 m facilitates the integration of the out-
door unit. In addition, it is possible to connect up to 69 indoor units per system. For applications requiring a high level of indoor air quality, TOSHIBA IAQ technology is available for 1-way cassettes (plasma air purifier), 4-way cassettes (plasma air purifier) and high wall units (ultra pure filter).
The system is suitable for ducts with a total length of up to 500 m and 90 m height difference between outdoor and indoor units.

vative and cost-efficient single-fan housing design that leaves nothing to be desired in terms of performance. The state-of-the-art compressor features a powerful magnetic rotor with a large surface area, which increases efficiency and reduces operating noise. The optimised solution is ideal for shops, restaurants, beauty salons, dentists, pharmacies and small offices, as well as for all technical applications.
TOSHIBA offers a highly adaptable and flexible range of 8 new outdoor unit applications between 5 and 13 kW, with the large capacity sizes
available with both single-phase or three-phase power connection. The compact single fan outdoor unit is ideal for the smallest spaces without compromising on energy efficiency: A++ for cooling and A+ for heating.
The new Digital Inverter Classic is compatible with various indoor units: the 4-way standard cassette, the standard duct unit and the high wall unit, which are ideally suited for almost any commercial project.
Users can access some special functions via the TOSHIBA wired remote
controls. Finally, with Digital Inverter Classic in an Economy system, all Light Business control options, as well as integration into VRF systems, or connection to BMS systems, are also possible.
The new Digital Inverter Classic represents an economical yet effective solution for cooling and heating small commercial spaces that will fulfil all expectations.
Reliable. Efficient. 100 % .

All-over TOSHIBA
The decision to expand a company is certainly not an easy one. Nevertheless, Gishamer Maschinenbau GmbH, a specialist in the field of mechanical engineering and automation for special purpose, decided to set up a new location in the province of Salzburg. Especially during the construction phase, it was important to have a strong partner at one’s side who could implement the best possible solution for the company in terms of air conditioning and heating solutions. And these demands on the planning and installation company
Hasenbichler GmbH were not easy ones: Air conditioning of a production hall with as little air draft as possible and heating and air conditioning of a 3-storey office building with stylish indoor units. The decision fell on several VRF systems from TOSHIBA. The SMMSu 2-pipe outdoor unit provides maximum efficiency and reliability in the production hall, while the four connected high-pressure duct units with air pipes ensure optimum air distribution in the room. A pleasantly tempered climate also ensures productive work in the office area.
For this purpose, two SHRMe 3-pipe systems were installed in combination with several cassette units. And that they can also look stylish has moreover been proven. An ESTIA heat pump with a heating capacity of 16 kW provides pleasant warmth in the office rooms. Especially in a small server room, such as the one at Gishamer Holding GmbH, it is important that the air can circulate and that no heat-related server failure happens. Here, too, Hasenbichler GmbH has chosen the right product – a Digital Inverter with R32 refrigerant.

After an absence of several years due to Corona, two important international trade fairs for the European market in the field of air conditioning, ventilation and heat pump technology were finally able to welcome visitors live on site again this year. The MOSTRA CONVEGNO EXPOCOMFORT in Milan from June 28th to July 1st and the CHILLVENTA in Nuremberg from October 11th to 13th Both fairs served as a meeting point for industry experts and interested parties and gave all visitors a great market overview as well as the opportunity to exchange information with experts.
In addition to the heat pump topic and the question of the refrigerant of the future, people used the time to find out about the latest news and trends in the industry. The TOSHIBA representatives from Italy and Germany were also present with a booth in Milan and Nuremberg respectively.
AIR-COND was represented at both fairs with a large delegation and was able to get a taste of international trade fair air again after a long break and could personally welcome some Austrian and international AIR-COND customers on site.

Revision of F-gas regulation and what will happen with the refrigerant…
At this year’s Chillventa in Nuremberg, a lot of brands had a “new” refrigerant for heat pumps on display. Many manufacturers presented their products with the refrigerant R290. This new refrigerant is actually the old and well-known natural refrigerant propane R290. What is going on here? The European Commission is proposing a GWP limit of 150 for all split systems and heat pumps with an output of less than 12 kW that are placed on the European market after 2027. Since we know that R32 has a GWP value of 675, such a radical proposal by the European Commission requires serious consideration.
The only alternative currently seems to be flammable refrigerants.
The current draft for the revision of the F-Gas Regulation provides the following bans for new installations.
From January 1st, 2025:
- Single-split units containing F-gases with a GWP of 750 or more, where the quantity of refrigerant is less than 3 kg.
- Plug-in room air conditioners, other self-contained room air conditioners and heat pumps (Monobloc!) containing HFCs with a GWP of 150 or more.
From January 1st, 2027:
- Split appliances with a rated output up to and including 12 kW containing F-gases with a GWP of 150 or more.
- Split units with a rated output of more than 12 kW that contain F-gases with a GWP of 750 or more.
For the three split variants, the following restriction is provided: “except where necessary to comply with safety standards”.
Of course, it is only a proposal for the time being, but the EU clearly wants
12 I
MARKET NEWS
to take a lead in environmental protection and therefore proposes strict conditions for the distribution of split systems and heat pumps. However, when revising the F-gas regulation, a balance must be found between reducing F-gas emissions and achieving the EU’s climate and energy targets. For this reason, EPEE has
published a position paper on the proposed revision of the EU F-Gas Regulation.
The proposed phase-out of HFCs in new appliances from 2027 would seriously jeopardise the 2030 climate and energy targets, including the transition to zero-emission buildings. This timetable of course needs to
take into consideration both technological development and training of skilled personnel in the handling of flammable refrigerants. Other points concern maintenance and leakage checks.
So it stays exciting for our market!

ESTIA Service Partner Meeting in Schladming / Austria in July 2022
TOSHIBA ESTIA –the not so new “BIG Player” on the heat pump market
Since 2009 AIR-COND’s product range is equipped with the TOSHIBA ESTIA A2W heat pumps. While this TOP product was still rather a follower on the market in the past years, we are now enjoying a high demand. Owner and CEO Jürgen Unterrainer recognized the potential at an early stage and therefore began to pull the necessary levers well before this year’s heat pump boom has started. Starting with the increase in staff in the ESTIA Sales & Technic department, to ESTIA large orders, which has given us and our partners a clear market advantage in an exceptional year. Thanks to our large warehouse in Vienna, we will continue to be able to plan and be logistically efficient.
In order to be able to meet the increasing demand for our A2W heat pump successfully, AIR-COND has found a way to distribute and support the ESTIA in the best possible way, in addition to securing availability and increasing personnel, also in the area of after-sales support for installers & end customers. However, further steps are needed to perfectly serve the large heat pump market up to the end customer. Based on these newly added requirements, the ESTIA Service Partner Network for the Austrian market was created.
For this purpose, qualified and interested TOSHIBA partners were brought on board. AIR-COND introduced an ESTIA Service Partner concept for Austria, which puts the
support around ESTIA on a new level. AIR-COND’s goal was to offer a fast and solution-oriented support network to all customers, from commercial to end customers. ESTIA service partners have already been trained this year and will continue to be educated in all relevant areas around our A2W heat pump ESTIA in the future. Those who have relied on TOSHIBA in the past know that when it comes to fail-safety, quality and reliability, TOSHIBA is the partner you want to have on your side.
Don’t miss your chance in the heat pump year 2023. We are ready to work with you to do what it takes to be successful!

Visit of the TOSHIBA factory TCAE
Since the start of production on March 3rd, 2021, the site has been able to steadily increase capacity and the number of employees. Since September 1st, 2022, the factory employs 128 people (in comparison, when the factory was opened, it was about 50). The demand for A2W equipment is booming and so it is not surprising that there are already plans to further expand production capacity.
Why was a location in Poland actually chosen?
First, a European location allows easier and faster access to the European market. Secondly, the availability of potential labor is highly valued and thirdly, Poland offers some economically interesting features.
In addition to the factory visit, a cultural contribution could not be missing and so the group braved the icy weather and strolled, accompanied
by a German guide, through the center of Poznan. In 2 hours the group experienced history, politics and entertaining knowledge about this wonderful Polish city!
Poznan – we will be back! Thank you for the great time together!

From November 15th to 17th, 2022 AIR-COND invited partners from Austria to Poland to visit the new TOSHIBA factory TCAE. Meeting point was at 6:00 a.m. at the NH Hotel at Vienna Airport to get together. With the plane the group started the trip from Vienna via Warsaw to Poznan in Poland. After a short transfer time, the group was able to check into the Hotel Novotel Poznan Center and then finish the evening with a relaxed dinner together at the hotel. The next morning the alarm clock rang early, because at 8 o’clock the bus was already leaving for the visit of the TOSHIBA factory TCAE in Gniezno. Here our partners could convince themselves of the first-class location and production quality. For about 1,5 years already units with refrigerant R32, especially A2W systems, but also Super Digital Inverters as well as Mini VRF outdoor units for the European market are produced there.

AIR-COND on a visit of the TOSHIBA USX factory in Japan and TCTC in Thailand SALES NEWS
In order to convince ourselves of the highest quality standards in production, as usual for TOSHIBA, we also visited the USX factory in Japan. Due to the pandemic, we travelled, a little later than planned, only with a small delegation to the mother country of TOSHIBA, Japan.
During the factory visit in Tsuyama (2.5 hours by train from Osaka) we were guided through the production facility and presented the multiple and several hours of tests including full cooling and heating operation. These are obligatory in order to meet the highest standards at the later place of use. In the USX Chiller, modern, space-saving design meets the most advanced technology and guarantees not only the highest efficiency and reliability, but also flexibility in service and maintenance during operation – everything that is required in industry and for cooling and heating of larger applications. Afterwards, the journey continued to the most important factory for our RAS, RAV and VRF segments, to TOSHIBA
Carrier in Bangkok (TCTC). During a joint meeting, we were informed about very positive progress in parts availability, which means that we can guarantee full availability for our important product groups RAS, RAV and VRF, even for the early start of the next season in 2023. We were able to have a very constructive exchange on how we will continue to be successful with TOSHIBA together with our partners in our markets in 2023. Furthermore, some very exciting product news were presented.
Be excited to see which great products from TCTC will arrive very soon.

TOSHIBA has recently adapted its Chiller, the “UNIVERSAL SMART X” (USX) Chiller for use in Europe, which has been very successful in Asia and especially in Japan. Here, operated with R32 refrigerant, the USX has also been launched by AIR-COND. Through an extensive roadshow, we were able to present this successful Chiller to you and together we have already won some very interesting and important USX projects.
Keeping a watchful eye on a functioning supply chain
Last year, we in the import department were again enormously challenged and had to overcome major challenges, which we managed to do in a solution-oriented manner.
On the one hand, the war and its effects took us by surprise; on the other hand, there were repeated port blockages due to CoV-19, especially in Asia, which resulted in global supply chain problems. Our factories also continue to be challenged with existing component shortages or bottlenecks
and supply problems with various raw materials as well as rising prices across the board. Our primary goal is to counteract this with price negotiations and price comparisons.
Despite all adversities, we can proudly confirm that our stock in the air-conditioning sector is very well stocked and we can deliver promptly.
The delivery dates for our ESTIA air-to-water heat pumps have also changed positively. Due to the fact that most of the units will
be produced in Poland next year, delivery times will continue to shorten. For the colleagues in the AIR-COND import department, the top priority next year will again be to speed up delivery dates, to bring urgent goods to the front of the queue, and to compare and negotiate prices.
This way, we will be able to benefit from a well-stocked warehouse again next year and supply units to you promptly.

Sponsoring
The aim of sponsorship is to address customers in a non-advertising environment and to create an emotional bond between the customer and a brand in order to improve brand image and awareness.
Especially in the field of sports, sponsorship offers an ideal platform to
place a brand and meet a wide coverage. This year, AIR-COND focused on golf.
The Falkensteiner Golf Cup took place for the fifth time this year and this time TOSHIBA was involved as a partner. The tournament took place since spring on the most beautiful
golf courses in Austria, Czech Republic and Italy. In Schladming / Austria Mr. Unterrainer invited golf affine partners to the tournament.
Why Schladming? The Hotel Falkensteiner in Schladming, where the group stayed, is equipped with TOSHIBA air conditioners!
Since this year, a golfer is also supported by AIR-COND and appears as a TOSHIBA brand ambassador.
Niklas Regner, a young talented Austrian golf junior player can already look back on a few very excellently played tournaments this year. He is well on his way to becoming an internationally successful tournament player.
