EDITORIAL Comfort, redefined: the new SMMS-e of Toshiba.

DEAR TOSHIBA CLIMATE PARTNER,

A

SMMS-e is off to a flying start! With the introduction of the new SMMS-e, Toshiba is marking another milestone in the development of its VRF systems and is sparking enormous excitement at all events relating to the the Super Modular Multi System-e.

s befits the Christmas season, here is a review of the past year. 2015 resembles a sheet of paper with two completely different sides: first, the dark side, that is to say the first six months, which, no doubt, proved to be one of the most difficult since 2009 for all those engaged in the air-conditioning sector. Not only did we, as general importers, have to combat a pronounced decline in sales, a negative mood within the air-conditioning market, dumping and a great deal more besides; we also had to analyse this difficult situation and, had it been prolonged, we would have had to reorientate ourselves. By contrast – the other side of the sheet of paper – the second half of the year: A never-ending heatwave was succeeded by never-before-seen monthly (record) revenues. With your support and our warehousing capacity, we succeeded in making the impossible possible. Not only were all losses in revenue from the first six months offset, we are also headed towards record revenues never seen before. This positive energy must also be harnessed and offset in early 2016 and beyond in the year. We will prepare ourselves accordingly so as to assure you of the basis for continued business success – collaborative business success with Air-Cond and the leading brand Toshiba. In this spirit, on behalf of all the staff at Air-Cond, I take pleasure in expressing our heartfelt gratitude to you and wishing you a serene Christmas celebration and much success in 2016!

the Trainer events at Rabenstein Castle, the promotional tour and initial feedback from experts!

T

his is not really surprising, as not only do high levels of efficiency and a very high degree of system reliability play an important role in the new concept; convenience for the consumer, for the firm carrying out installation and for planners is also a focal area. Many of the proven components and technologies have remained the same, albeit undergoing a process of re-integration and optimisation. The result is not just the sum total of all these improvements, but a sophisticated, homogeneous and perfectly coordinated system that permits efficient cooling and heating, provides hot water and integrates ventilation, all these processes being innovatively controlled. Your heart will leap for joy! New features make SMMS-e even more efficient, compact and – quite simply – better!

ESTIA FITS THE BILL FOR “ErP LOT 1”!

S

ince 26 September 2015, the directive issued by the EU in respect of the reduction of carbon emissions also applies to ESTIA. This means, on the one hand, that the Toshiba air-to-water heat pump must fulfil certain performance parameters and, on the other, that energy efficiency and sound level labelling is mandatorily prescribed. The entire ESTIA range in the “E1” series meets these requirements and, moreover, scores points with its software improvements. If required, you can issue the energy label – available online at http://ecodesign. toshiba-airconditioning.eu – at any time, combinations also without hot water tanks being configurable with immediate effect.

HWS

ErP LOT1 label also for ESTIA with immediate effect!

EXCITING AND MOTIVATING:

RAS Multi Series 3 outdoor units

THAT WAS THE TRAIN THE TRAINER MODULE AT THE SMMS-e LAUNCH AT RABENSTEIN CASTLE!

T

hree new RAS Multi outdoor units have been simultaneously performance-optimised and are available as the “S3” Series. While the proven two-room models in the 4.0/4.4 kW and 5.2/5.6 kW capacity variants remain and are being administrated under new model names, the new RAS-3M18S3AV-E unit, with a cooling capacity of 5.2 kW and a heating capacity of 6.8 kW, permits cost-efficient 3 x 10 multi-system combinations. The “S3” Series scores points with its improved efficiency (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio [SEER] “A++”), expanded operating ranges (cooling from -10 °C to 46 °C and heating from -20 °C to 24 °C), a practical service display and the option to set the operating mode to “Heating only” or “Cooling only” and to “Energy-saving” at the flick of a switch.

I

ntensive, compact and yet very entertaining – this is how the inaugural event launching SMMS-e might be summed up. The “Planetensaal” at Rabenstein Castle in Frohnleiten, a structure dating back to the 12th century, was the perfect backdrop for the launch of the new VRF system, offering close to 50 invitees the exclusive opportunity of experiencing it up close. There were two two-day events, each of the first event days offering an exciting overview of the new features, while on the second day, in both cases, a minutely detailed session was presented“ in medias res”.

UP CLOSE EXPERIENTIAL TESTING

Do you not know what that is? Well – if you enjoy listening to spooky tales of days gone by, you should plan a visit to Graz soon and venture a walk through the old part of the city with the “ghost”. Our guests from neighbouring countries, who were invited to dinner in Casino Graz, also experienced thrills of a different kind at the roulette and poker tables. With a starting capital of 25 euros, many tried their luck at the gambling table. Below the line, these were two truly successful events that did not just involve a great, new product, but which also served as a platform for the Toshiba family to once again come together to exchange ideas and information. Entirely in the spirit of “Better together”.

Toshiba‘s solution to the topic “optimised heating” was very impressively demonstrated by, among other things, the SMMS-e system recently installed in-house using “Energiesparhaus 2”. After the outdoor unit had been wrapped in film, thus triggering a freezing process, the analysis software “Dyna Doc” rigged up to it could be used to successfully track how the system responds and how it prevents cooling of the indoor units used for heating when in defrost mode.

EVENINGS TINGLING WITH EXCITEMENT New: the “3M18” with 5,2 / 6,8 kW capacity.

The evening programme, too, made for excitement. Guests from Austria were whisked away to experience a rather “unusual” tour of the city of Graz, a “Ghost Walk” being on the agenda! Partners from all export countries accepted the invitation to attend the SMMS-e launch at Rabenstein Castle.

New, compact BACnet interface

T

ith immediate effect, Toshiba is offering a small BACnet interface that is I/F-relayfree and thus also more cost-effective. Up to 64 indoor units can be connected, and installation is effected on a DIN rail. Compatible with LC and VRF systems.

COMING SOON: MIRAI

COOL – this Coolmaster

C

oolmaster is an attractive alternative control system with features akin to the Smart Manager used for integrating HVAC systems in home automation and BMS controls. It is operated via a touch screen display unit that has the capacity to manage up to 128 indoor units. Control via smartphone, tablet and PC is feasible.

Very compact: the new BACnet Interface.

Expanded CRF portfolio

T

he VRF indoor units‘ new output sizes make the portfolio even more flexible and sophisticated. The 60x60 4-way cassette unit, the flat ducted unit and the Series 4 wallmounted unit are now also available in an output variant providing 0.6 HP; these models are compatible with SMMS-e and SHRM-e.

Remote cable extension for RAS ducted unit

I

f required, the control connection between the ducted unit and the IR receiver kit can be extended by 10 m using TCB-DUCEX10M, thus increasing flexibility!

The new Mirai – or “future” in English – is set to replace the AvAnt inverter.

T

he AvAnt entry-level inverter is being replaced next year by the “MIRAI”, which is not just a winner in terms of improved energy efficiency, but which also takes you by surprise with its new and attractive design. Rounded edges, a shiny surface and elegant, brilliant white LEDS make the Mirai a stylish and adaptable indoor inverter unit.

This model will be available for delivery both with R410A refrigerant and also now with the R32 variant, both designs being identical. Aside from better efficiency values (energy class A+/A+), the MIRAI models are very quiet, have a self-cleaning heat exchanger and cool to an ambient temperature of minus 15 °C. Look forward to MIRAI – the future avatar of the current AvAnt entry-level Toshiba inverter.

New REDUNDANCY MODULE TCB-ACREDU1-E

T

he redundancy box facilitates the switchover of two separate RAV systems, contingent upon faults and hours of operation. As soon as one of the two indoor units indicates the presence of a fault, the second indoor unit is immediately switched on. The redundancy box is equipped with a display panel that serves to indicate the current system status, as well as to effect control and regulation functions and to render system data in variables.

Greater security with the redundancy module for RAV units.

TOSHI-BEAR writes

Anyone who works with SMMS-e has it good: The advantages for planners, operators, investors and firms carrying out installation are superb.

An attentive audience comprising Austrian experts.

After an exciting year, it actually ought to be time for some well-deserved rest and relaxation and for going into hibernation for the winter – much like a bear. However, since our year has passed in a somewhat strange fashion and the search for food has posed a specific challenge, there is hardly any time to take a break. Quite the contrary, in fact, as we are more active than ever before and are endeavouring to maintain the momentum and the positive energy right through the winter, too. Year in and year out, we all adapt to the variable climatic conditions and attempt to make the best of them. But regardless of the external factors that we contend with while working, motivation, dedication, hard work and commitment will always be the attributes that bring about success or that separate the hungry bear from one that is satiated. This is why – with the exception of the reflective days of celebration at Christmas and some days of rest spent with our nearest and dearest – we continue to work hard so that we can all once again enter the market with bear-like vigour as the New Year dawns. Bearish Christmas greetings

AIR-COND AUCTIONS PIRELLI CALENDAR

A

rguably, the most well-known fund-raising campaign in Austria – “Licht ins Dunkel” (“Light into Darkness”) – is entering the 43rd year of its existence. GRAZETTA took this as an opportunity to send out invitations to the “Licht ins Dunkel Gala 2015” in the car dealership Wittwar. Air-Cond also supported this good cause and auctioned two Pirelli calendars worth 2,800 euros. The total proceeds, amounting to 89,500 euros, are to go towards Styrian projects fostered by the „Licht ins Dunkel“ campaign.

ver and above the Train the Trainer events, AirCond has, in cooperation withBelgrade local partners, also successfully organised a road show in some countries of distribution. Designated “Meet & Split Greet” events, instead of tedious product presentations, a lively platform was made available that permitted information to be shared, crisp presentations to be held and numerous practical examples to be portrayed. The Toshiba Smileys were once again taken along on tour, clearly addressing specifications and requirements from the perspective of the most diverse stakeholder groups and receiving responses that were just as clear. Capacity presentations, stimulating discussions and a great deal of positive feedback: This is how the SMMS-e promotional tour 2015, seen by around 755 qualified visitors, can be gratifyingly summed up.

U

nder the “Vision 2020” banner, Toshiba‘s management is communicating clear objectives for global growth, as well as a doubling of revenues (compared with 2013) in the area of heating, ventilation and air conditioning solutions. The fact that Air-Cond will also play its part was demonstrated to the guests from Japan and Thailand, Mr Toshiaki Wazawa (Managing Officer & General Manager, Global Business Division, Toshiba Carrier Corporation), Ms Yuriko Matsumoto (Senior Manager, Sales & Marketing Dept 1, Global Business Division, Toshiba Carrier Corporation) and Mr Waseem Islam (Deputy Managing Director, Toshiba Carrier [Thailand] Co., Ltd), during a

OUR CONGRATULATIONS: Energija celebrates its 10th anniversary!

I

t took a great deal of power and personal commitment for Vasil and Samoil Ciconkov to establish the company Energija d.o.o. in Skopje / Macedonia – that too in times that were not always completely straightforward from an economic and political perspective. They believed in their vision; they believed in Toshiba and, in October, along with 200 invitees, they celebrated ten successful years of corporate existence. This celebratory occasion was also used to inaugurate the brand new showroom. Bernd Taucher conveyed hearty felicitations on behalf of Air-Cond and delivered a most heartfelt vote of thanks to the management. Vasil Ciconkov himself says: “We are acting within a small but very exciting market, where – above all else – awareness needs to be created about Toshiba‘s highly efficient products.” That will take its own time. Because of our annual rates of growth across all Toshiba segments, we are more than convinced of having taken the right path. All of this has naturally only been made possible by the commitment of my team and the wholehearted support extended by Air-Cond over the years!

Merry Christmas! When a year nears its end, it is time to pause and give thanks. Thank you for your solid cooperation. Thank you for your valued orders.

Thank you for reposing confidence in us and for your loyalty. On behalf of the entire team, we wish you and your loved ones a peaceful and fulfilling Christmas celebration and a robust start to the New Year. We shall be delighted to be of service to you once again next year! YOURS Team AIR-COND
