AISA Members’ Circular December 2014 | Vol. 5 No. 4
In this issue:
Note from the Executive Director AISA 2015 Conference URGENT Reminder Professional Development Coordinator
Note from the Executive Director Hello from Nairobi – and to this our December Members Circular. In this month’s circular there are just two important items. If you only have time to read one of them – read the first one about there being very few flight and accommodation spaces still open to Cape Town next March - and please pass it on to any of your colleagues thinking of attending the AISA conference in Cape Town. The second item is for those interested in improving their PD opportunities (could this be you?)
AISA 2015 Conference (Cape Town) If you want to sleep on the beach in Cape Town during our March 2015 conference – FINE. You don’t need to read this!!! If you want a hotel room please read on! An urgent reminder about the hotel and flight bookings for the AISA 2015 conference events. AISA has been informed that the hotel block bookings we have for our delegates attending the AISA events in Cape Town next March are in extremely high demand. If you or members of your school / organization are planning on attending AISA 2015 you really need to book now and pay the deposit to secure your accommodation. With rooms in such high demand any room not secured with a deposit by the deadline stated by the hotels will be taken back by the hotels and sold to others – not from AISA. Some of these confirmation deadlines are next week! With such high demand AISA cannot hold our hotel block bookings for delegates much longer. Before you return in the New Year we must give up 50% of all our reserved hotel rooms. The other 50% are likely to be booked already. If you don’t have yours booked before the December holiday, sleeping on the beach will become highly likely (no really – I mean it!). We have an Exceptional Programme lined up in an Exceptional Venue. How sad it will be if you or your colleagues miss out?
Who Coordinates Your Professional Development? This past weekend AISA hosted the inaugural meeting of our new Professional Learning Working Group (PLWG). The key purpose of the group is to assist AISA in ensuring that the Professional Learning programme we offer better aligns to the needs of you – our members. Over the course of three days this group of exceptionally talented and thoughtful educators plotted out an initial pathway towards a more targeted, differentiated and needs based programme for all AISA schools. In our PLWG currently are: • • • • • •
Dustin Collins from TASOK in Kinshasa, Congo (DRC) Andy Kimwele from Brookhouse School in Nairobi, Kenya Liz Hargreaves from AISJ in Johannesburg, South Africa Jodi Lake from ISK in Nairobi, Kenya Rebecca Caudill from LCS in Accra, Ghana Elaine Nicholson ICS in Addis Ababa , Ethiopia
We’re currently programming for the 2015/16 year. In order to better support your Professional Learning needs we need to make contact with the person responsible for Professional Development at your school. Could you please send to me: Name of your School: Name of your PD Coordinator: PD Coordinator’s Email Address:
Happy Holidays
Peter and the AISA Team
