ASG Relocates to Greenery Campus

The school’s enrollment grew rapidly from 73 to 102 students from 21 nations. ASG moved into its first purpose-built campus in the Greenery housing estate.

ASG Introduces Scouting
Girl Scouts were introduced to ASG to utilize the scouting culture and maintain ties to U.S. traditions while expanding students’ knowledge of American society. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts were later added to the program.

ASG Expands to High School
ASG began accepting enrollment for High School, beginning with 11 students across grade 9 through 11.

First Graduating Class
Our first High School graduating class consisted of three students. After graduation, they went on to attend Stanford University, UC Berkeley, and New York University.

ASG Becomes AISG
ASG became legally reorganized as a non-profit corporation in the U.S. that contracted with the school entity registered in China. As part of this process, the school changed its name to the American International School of Guangzhou (AISG), becoming the longest established non-profit international school in Guangzhou to this day.

Establishes China Trips
AISG students began to expand their cultural knowledge by exploring the beauty of China through China
Trips. For more than 20 years, our students have enjoyed meaningful learning to enhance the AISG experience through this tradition.

Establishes Student Council
The AISG Middle School Student Council and High School Student Council were founded to give students a voice in their own communities. Since their inception, these student councils have responded to the needs of their student bodies and serve as the voice of our students.

AISG Relocates to Er Sha Island
Regional industry and commerce continued to grow, with the Pearl River Delta becoming the world center of manufacturing. As Guangzhou expanded and diversified, so too did AISG. Demand grew rapidly as children of foreign employees moving to Guangzhou sought out the only international school in town.
AISG moved from the Greenery campus to a new purpose-built site on Er Sha Island located in the heart of Guangzhou.

Receives IB Authorization
AISG received authorization from the International Baccalaureate Office to offer the Primary Years
Programme and Diploma Programme. The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

AISG Begins Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter
The Habitat for Humanity campus chapter became an important part of community service life at AISG. For more than ten years, our students have visited villages in rural areas across southern China to do hands-on work building homes for those that are inneed of adequate shelter.

Science Park Campus Opens
As student numbers continued to grow, AISG realized that new facilities were required. With the cooperation of the local government including the Guangdong Education Department, Guangzhou
Education Bureau, Huangpu District Government, and Homeland and Resources Bureau, the Middle
School and High School divisions moved to a new, purpose-built campus in Science Park. Growth in all grades continued, with AISG’s student population totaling more than 900.

Er Sha Campus Expands Program
The convenient location of the Er Sha campus combined with the growing enrollment of its Elementary School program, led to the opening of its Early Childhood Center, welcoming preschool students from age three.
二沙岛校区扩招
二沙岛校区地理位置便利,小学部学生人数不断增加,并开设了幼儿园,开始招收三岁以上的学生。
AISG Begins the Global Issues Network
The Global Issues Network (GIN) community service group was established to provide under-privileged girls with the education they deserve. GIN has raised more than RMB720,000 to date, successfully providing over 200 young women with the life-changing opportunity to pursue their educational goals.
