AIZAH BAKHTIYAR
Hello! My name is Aizah and I am a third year undergrad student of Architecture at the University of Toronto. Growing up in Canada and Pakistan, I’ve always been fascinated by the different ways in which space is utilized to either bridge or create social divides. As a designer, I’m especially interested in creating spaces that bring people together and using color and composition to tell stories visually. Outside of school, I love exploring Toronto on my bike, am an avid photographer and, have been developing my photo-editing skills. Following my resume is a collection of some of my work.

CASCADE Cascade employs the use of purely vertical plains to create space. There is no function; the form is inpired by the idea of abstracting a waterfall.

FRACTAL Spaces are created using only horizontal surfaces with links to connect the levels. It is inspired by the complexity of a 2D fractal pattern. The idea resonates in both plan and section.

DRAWING OF A DRAWING

Frank Gehry is known for his sketches. It is this ‘tentativeness, the messiness”, that guards the design from repetition “The resulting structures are imbued with the dynamic energy of Gehry’s original sketches and with the improbable nature of his study models. The interiors are both grand and unpredictable at once”. The diffidence in his sketches can be seen by the way the disparate lines that come together to create the forms that he eventually tests out with model. This sketch is of particular interest to me. The confluence of impulsiveness and diffidence create something very unique in Gehry’s sketches. Drawing of a Drawing decompose his sketch of the Disney hall to make obvious the lines that compose it.
