UPAVP'S 'ON PAPER' DRAMA over basic amenities decried F
ollowing a recent rap from Supreme Court, the Uttar Pradesh government has ordered district administration to identify illegal construction of religious places on government and non-government land. Following the SC order ADM (admin) Satish Kumar has asked agencies like Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam, Nagar Panchayat, PWD, irrigation and other departments, working in the district to file a list of religious places, constructed illegally on government and non-government land under its jurisdiction. A report in this regard was to be filed on November 13. The recent development has residents hopping mad over denial of basic amenities by development authorities in connivance with vested interests. A city for community should have basic amenities like hospitals, religious places, sports stadia, shopping malls or markets, police station, fire station etc. Residents allege land meant for the amenities gets transferred for commercial use leading to curtailment of basic amenities. Federation fumes, "We have been asking that there was a provision for an indoor stadium, plot for semi religious and cultural activities, musical fountain etc. in the master plan/layout plan of Sector 7 Vasundhara Yojna, dated February 12, 2001 of UPAVP (Uttar Pradesh Awas Vikas Parishad). Later on the plan arbitrarily changed on December 15, 2005 and all the facilities removed to 'accommodate' commercial services like drive-in restaurant, multiplex, shopping mall, hotel, private degree college and commercial plots in their place. On January 6, 2007 the plan was again amended and basic amenities virtually disappeared". "The basic amenities have been quietly deleted with-
out even inviting any objection from residents, thus depriving them of basic civic amenities which were promised by UPAVP while promoting the scheme for sale to public," he adds. "The application was penned down and submitted on August 24 this year and according to RTI law UPAVP is supposed to be replied to by October 24 (The application was not received by any officer personally) but the deadline already has been expired but still we have not received any reply. Being a resident I want that people who are responsible for the miserable condition of Vasundhara should be slapped with a legal notice and let Vasudhara get its basic amenities back," he adds. —PURUSHARTH ARADHAK
