Police crackdown on border ENCROACHMENT AN EYEWASH? A
few days ago, a high-level meeting was held in which the top brass of the district administration were gloating over a "fetching" plan to remove encroachments from border areas. It was decided to take stiff action to ease the traffic menace at border areas on an urgent basis. Some other orders were also released, but later on when Cityplus visited all the areas it was found that all the locations are still in the same bad shape as they were earlier. The Ghaziabad administration has failed to find out why rules are followed in Delhi but are violated in Ghaziabad. A meeting, chaired by DM, and attended by SSP with other top brass of the district administration was held to tackle the traffic jam problem. At the meeting SSP said that UP gate chowki has become a source of traffic jam, so it should be removed. It was also decided to take action to ease traffic jam, construct another road behind the police chowki at Maharajpur border. Later on various congested routes and cuts of the city were also inspected on November 10, but still no action is being taken.
Mohan Nagar GDA has come up with a plan to ease traffic from Mohan Nagar 'chauraha'. An underpass will also be constructed near the Shahibabad Railway Station. Mohan Nagar is the heaviest point of district in terms of traffic. Every day 150,000 vehicles pass from the point and 65 per cent of them are HMV. Big deal vs tiny efforts Still the district administration has not taken its best to end the menace, as this is not the first time when meeting was held and fetching plans were discussed and later on orders were released. Number of times so-called encroachment removing drives have been conducted, and traffic violators have been challaned to restore the traffic system in shape at UP gate, Gyani border, Aradhana cinema and Mohan Nagar. But still the situation is in bad shape as with in short span exercises come to an end and again violators enjoy field day. UP Gate When Cityplus visited‌ At the Anand Vihar (Delhi)Kaushambi border, there was a glaring difference in the way traffic rules were followed or violated. A large number of 'theliwallahs' and kiosks were seen just

A few metres away, there was a massive traffic as autos were seen just under the Metro rail pillar. As the road was broken, daily commuters were taken for a ride. However, hardly 20 metres away, police personnel were 'enjoying' the moment (as they were not performing their duty by taking some

steps). There was a massive traffic rule violation. There was rash driving in the service lane. A large part of one side of road was encroached upon for parking purpose just outside a mall, close to the border. The inner lanes of Kaushambi, flanked by the border were placed in a miserable mode. Wrong side rash driving by public tempos could be seen in the day time. However, hardly 300
metres away police personnel were conducting the traffic. When trucks and tempos were on Delhi roads, they stick to rules but once they enter Ghaziabad, all rules go for a toss even though there is a police picket close to the bus stand. However, recently the order was issued to remove police picket as it is also a source of traffic jam.

Apsara border The location has a huge transport centre. Here Delhi roads are wide but Ghaziabad roads are congested. A flyover construction is also under way here but despite the same no additional service is being rendered. Again people here were seen roaming on the roads. Roads have massive potholes. And both sides of the road have been encroached upon. It is a highway and commercial trucks and tempos were parked on the road, as can be seen at all time. Loaded trucks lined up on Ghaziabad roads leave little space for other vehicles to cross. To solve the problem, traffic police have fixed timings for commercial vehicles to enter the city. Loni border Likewise Apsara boader trucks and tempos were parked on the road. Autos were also parked in an unsystematic manner. Fruit and other edible sellers were also flanked on both sides of the road. Here also massive illegal construction and encroachment has taken place and no police personnel were seen here.
