MMCA students win architecture award T

wo young and dynamic students of Deccan -based Marathwada Mitra Mandal College of Architecture studying in third year have won this year's Birla White Yuva Ratna Award. This contest was floated by Birla White, division of Grasim Industries Limited and is open to all architectural college students in India and abroad. The competition was held in two categories namely Global Knowledge Centre and Knowledge media cen-

tre. Around 2400 students participated in the contest. Ashish Athawale won the first prize of Rs 15,000, a trophy and a certificate in the Knowledge media centre category and Sameer Andre won the second prize of Rs 10,000, a trophy and a certificate in the Knowledge media centre category. The institution has been organizing this two-day festival for the past 15 years. "We had started this event for community celebration. We g e t t r e m e n d o u s response. Nearly three to four thousand people visit it each day," said Father Sebastian Mony, main organizer of the event. This year's special attraction was Personality Pageant Show. Pune’s expatriates show culinary skills R edcarpet Hospitality and Culinary Academy hosted a Hyderabadi cuisine demonstration followed by a cooking competition for Pune's expatriates as part of MCCIA's Pune plugged festival. Chef Ravish Arora conducted the demonstration in the state-of-the-art culinary studio at Redcarpet. Chef Arora introduced participants to Hyderabadi cuisine, its history, ingredients and favourite dishes. The demonstration began with Korme ke Kebab followed by Lukmi, a variation of the samosa, Next was the main course of Hyderabadi Murg korma, chicken in yogurt based gravy flavoured with cashew nuts, followed by Mirchi ka Saalan, Bhavnagiri chillies in a spicy-sour gravy prepared with poppy seeds, peanuts and tamarind which served as an accompaniment to Dum Biryani. The demonstration ended with the delicious dessert, Khubani ka Meetha, stewed apricots with cream. The participants were full of questions and various ingredients and some dishes were circulated to taste. The demonstration was followed by an exciting, fastpaced cooking competition accompanied

by frantic questions and instructions in different languages as expatriates tried their hand at Indian cuisine. The competition was judged by Chef Gev Desai, Corporate Executive Chef, ITC and Advisory Council member at Redcarpet Academy and Mukesh Malhotra President of MCCIA and MD of Weikfield. The guests were treated to a delicious lunch which offered a spread of Indian and international cuisine. The lucky winners and runners up received gift vouchers.
