By continuing this tradition, we are able to recognize chapters and sorors who are celebrating milestones and continuing Mid-Atlantic’s legacy of excellence. I also appreciate the extra efforts you have shown to reach out to corporate sponsors who have also contributed to this journal. Although we are operating virtually, your continued support is tangible and heartfelt. This conference, under the leadership of Soror Aurelia Williams, Conference Chair and her dynamic cochair, Soror Cynthia Nicholson, will be full of exciting presentations, workshops and events that will demonstrate our commitment to continuing our service and our Mid-Atlantic spirit of sisterliness. As we continue to be undeterred in our service to all mankind despite the challenges presented by this unprecedented public health crisis, I am gratified by the ingenuity, determination and excellence on display at regional conferences across Alpha Kappa Alpha in this virtual world. Welcome to the 68th Mid Atlantic Regional Conference, where we are “Poised and Polished for Excellence.” Throughout our virtual conference, you will have the opportunity to celebrate, learn, and exercise your technology skills as we adapt to our virtual platform in response to the pandemic. If there was ever a time that we are needed to serve our community with boldness and precision, it is now! The country is healing, our educational system is adapting, and we have made history. Indeed, we are doing a new thing and doing it well. Through technology, we are blessed to convene safely and in an engaging manner. Sorors from across the Mid-Atlantic Region have been working tirelessly to plan an innovative conference that is guaranteed to increase your knowledge of our international program “Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service.” The 68th MARC will offer all of the features of our inperson conference and a few bonuses! This year, all conference extras were included with your economical registration fee. We hope that you will join us in service, training, and celebration. Our theme, “PPE: Poised and Polished for Excellence”, captured our ability to thrive in the midst of our country’s current realities. Every activity and program celebrated our region’s rich history of leadership and service. Congratulations to our esteemed Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, Ms. Jennifer King Congleton! This has truly been a new thing! Your vision to provide a relevant and engaging conference is a true testament of your love and devotion to the Mid-Atlantic Region and our sisterhood. We surely are doing a “New Thing!” I am elated that Madam Regional Director, Soror Jennifer King Congleton, challenged me with the amazing opportunity to lead this committee. It has been an honor to work with her and the Graduate Sorors of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference Planning Committee. It has been a pleasure to work with my esteemed Co-Chair, Soror Alexandria Marsicovetere. By collaborating with her and the other members of the committee, we created an engaging and informative program. I am honored to learn from our Marvelous Regional Director, Soror Jennifer King Congleton, and the other Marvelous Sorors of the MidAtlantic Regional Conference Planning Committee during the development of the undergraduate program for the conference. March 24, 2021 Dear Friends: On behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia, I am pleased to extend a very warm welcome to everyone attending the 68th Annual Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference. The past year has presented us all with unexpected challenges and just as one would expect, the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated have risen to meet those challenges. Over the past year, you have identified new and innovative ways to give back to your respective communities. It is my hope that everyone in attendance at the conference has a wonderful time in continued innovative service to all mankind and celebrating the enormous impact the Mid-Atlantic Region has had on both the Commonwealth of Virginia and North Carolina. Since its inception, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has prioritized scholarship, building a meaningful and lasting sisterhood, and being of service to all mankind. I strongly believe the greatest gift that one can give is service, and you should be very proud of your unwavering commitment over the last 113 years. I would particularly like to thank your Regional Director, Jennifer King Congleton, for her leadership, as well as everyone involved in the planning process for the conference. The Rules of the Virtual 68th Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference shall be governed by the 2018 Constitution and Bylaws and Manual of Standard Procedure of Rule 1 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, as well as Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised, 12th Edition. Rule 2

Soror Jennifer King-Congleton, Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, is the Presiding Officer for this Conference.

Rule 3 The first order of business shall be the Report of the Credentials Committee. Rule 4 The second order of business shall be the adoption of the Proposed Standing Rules.

Rule 5

The third order of business shall be the adoption of the Conference Agenda as presented by Soror Jennifer King Congleton, Mid-Atlantic Regional Director.

Each business session and all program activities shall begin and end promptly, in Rule 6 accordance with the official agenda. The Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, as the Presiding Officer, may make exceptions. The Regional Director shall appoint a Grammateus, Anti-Grammateus, Philacter Rule 7 and other officers she deems necessary to carry out the adopted agenda of this conference. The Conference is accessible to registered sorors and registered guests only. All Rule 8 registered sorors, including delegates and registered guests, shall comply with identity verification requests in order to enter all meetings and functions.

A delegate who must leave the Conference shall first notify her Chapter Basileus and then promptly email the Mid-Atlantic Regional Registrar at: registrar@midatlanticaka.org to surrender her delegate status. The alternate Rule 9 taking the delegate’s place will be notified by her Chapter Basileus. After certification by the Registration Chairman and Delegate Certification Chairman, the alternate shall assume the role of “delegate” for the remainder of the Conference.

In all conference matters not provided for in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Rule 10 Incorporated® International Constitution and Bylaws, the current edition of Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised, shall govern the body. Rule 11

The voting strength of the conference delegation shall be announced at the opening of the first business session of each day of the Regional Conference. Sorors presenting reports to the conference shall, as recommended by the 2018 Official Guide to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Protocol, address as follows: “To Madam Regional Director, Soror Jennifer King Congleton, Madam Supreme Basileus, Soror Glenda Glover, to our Former Supreme Basilei, Members of the Directorate, and all others who serve Alpha Kappa Alpha, Good Morning/Afternoon.”

Rule 12 There is no greeting before offering a prayer, meditation, grace and/or invocation. These guidelines are applicable for plenary sessions and events. This specific greeting, however, is only stated by the first speaker of the event. All others who follow need only acknowledge the Regional Director, Soror Congleton, and the Supreme Basileus, Soror Glover, or the First Supreme Anti-Basileus, Soror Anthony, and then proceed with their committee reports. Speakers should provide an electronic copy of their report to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference Grammateus and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference Chairman immediately following presentation to the Conference. Due to the confidential and proprietary nature of sorority business conducted at the Virtual 68th Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference, taking pictures, screen shots, utilizing the snipping tool to capture screen shots, video and/or audio recordings of plenary sessions, workshops and forums is prohibited. The only exception to Rule 13 this Rule will be the instances where awards are presented during the public meeting or during plenary sessions where limited screen shots may be allowed. Any Soror found violating this rule, as verified by the Technology Committee or cyber security, will be asked to delete the images and/or information from her electronic device(s) and may be barred from that session or future sessions. Texting, tweeting, and/or posting to any social media outlet regarding any Rule 14 information discussed in virtual business meetings including forums, workshops and certification institutes shall not be permitted.

Rule 15

Sorors should wear appropriate Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® business attire to all business meetings, workshops and forums.

Rule 16

Certified delegates of the Conference shall be entitled to make motions, engage in discussion, and vote.

A delegate who wishes to pose a question or comment shall enter her submission Rule 17 via function available through the meeting platform. A delegate is asked to limit the number of comments to one (1) per issue. All delegates are asked to exhibit sisterly conduct when an issue is being Rule 18 addressed. No debate (discussion) that directs negative criticism to an individual soror or an individual chapter shall be permitted.

Rule 19

The Regional Director shall rule out of order any discussion, debate, or proposal not specifically related to the conference agenda.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Announcements must be in writing, include the full name of the soror, and the Rule 20 name of her chapter or general membership and email the announcement to the Regional Conference Hodegos at: MARCHodegos@gmail.com SPECIAL RULES ON VOTING Rule 21

Madam Regional Director and Former Mid-Atlantic Regional Directors will be allowed to vote as delegates at this Conference.

Business may be conducted by unanimous consent. When the Regional Director seeks unanimous consent motions may be adopted if Rule 22 there are no objections. Delegates will use the platform functionality to raise an objection to unanimous consent. If so, voting shall then proceed by another method after debate The 2020-2021 Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference Rules Committee submits this report and moves its adoption. Managing Chapter Financial Operations Using the Fiscal Fitness Guide for Chapter Financial Operations

Workshop Session I

This interactive workshop provides participants with information on chapter financial procedures and operations. Participants will learn the roles and responsibilities of the financial officers, expectations of being a financial leader and guidelines for managing financial operations. Sorors will become well versed on the information included in the Fiscal Fitness Guide for Chapter Financial Operations, which includes budgeting, auditing, internal controls and financial statement reporting.

WK02 Membership

Navigating Membership in the New Normal

As we live in this new normal, it is essential to navigate membership in a virtual manner while continuing to stay connected in sisterhood. This interactive workshop will explore ways to implement virtual membership operations centered on reclamation, retention and mentoring. Recommendations will be offered for chapter retention and advocating the benefits of chapter versus general membership. Sorors will walk away with new membership best practices to undertake in their chapters using traditional and non‐traditional approaches necessary to ensure increased member satisfaction and chapter sustainability.

The 3 P’s of Implementing the Graduate MIP Process in A Pandemic: Planning, Preparing and Pushing Forward

The 3 P’s of Implementing the Undergraduate MIP Process in A Pandemic: Planning, Preparing and Pushing Forward This workshop will provide chapters with a turn‐by‐turn directional Roadmap to ensure a successful Undergraduate Membership Intake Process during a Pandemic. Sorors will learn to successfully navigate the three Ps for the Modified MIP – Plan, Prepare and Push Forward by Using CDC Guidelines and the MIP Manual.

Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service – Through the Year (2020) as we struggled with main and with might, we captured a vision fair! Programs remain the heart of our amazing sisterhood. Even in the midst of a pandemic, Chapters demonstrated implementation of the Excellence Program Targets with enthusiasm and tenacity and captured a vision fair! This workshop will review a sample of innovative programs implemented during the pandemic by chapters within all regions, review at a high level all international program webinars offered during 2020, provide the 2020 virtual regional specific Excellence outcomes and suggest recommendations for beginning 2021 with main and with might! by offering additional program activities for chapters.

WK06 Risk Management 10:30 AM - 11:45 AM Workshop Session II

311 State of Emergency: You Are Always Wearing Your Pearls The Risk Management Task Force will discuss ways to effectively identify, assess, mitigate and eliminate risk to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Through this training with the virtual mandate under which Alpha Kappa Alpha continues to operate due to the COVID‐ 19 Pandemic as a backdrop, the Risk Management Task Force will explore the evolution of risk management in Alpha Kappa Alpha, discuss key risk management principles and reinforce the need for chapters to develop risk management plans and for sorors to embrace their roles as risk managers.

Alpha Kappa Alpha is building leaders, change agents and the innovators of tomorrow! This workshop will position undergraduates to R.E.A.C.H. their highest potential as individuals and chapter members to propel AKA to greater heights. Join us as we take a closer look at the 2020‐2022 Undergraduate Activities Committee theme. Attendees also will discuss best practices for programs, brainstorm future events, talk with other undergraduates about their unique college experiences, and have the opportunity to interact with the members of the UAC. Exemplifying Excellence in Alpha Kappa Alpha Protocol This workshop will review recent changes to the Official Guide to Alpha Kappa Alpha Protocol and best practices during virtual operations at the chapter level. The workshop is designed to assist sorors with navigating the newest era of protocol smoothly and with excellence.

Planning Beyond Tomorrow: Estate Planning & Living Wills Estate Planning, Living Wills and Palliative Care are avoided, however necessary conversations. In this workshop presenters will address Estate Planning and Living Wills. The presentation will also touch on the areas of Palliative Care, Accidents and Illness.
