On behalf of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Tau Beta Omega Chapter, welcome to the 2022 Jazz at Sea Scholarship Luncheon and Fundraiser We are honored to have you with us as we celebrate our 2022 scholarship recipients and community honorees This year’s Jazz at Sea is particularly special, as it serves as our first in person fundraiser since 2019. We are grateful for your support.
Chartered April 27, 1991, Tau Beta Omega Chapter serves Marina del Rey and its surrounding communities with a keen focus on scholarship, service, and sisterhood. Tau Beta Omega’s 74 members are among Southern California’s best and brightest college trained professionals from diverse backgrounds who know that "Service to All Mankind" is a serious matter
Tau Beta Omega is currently implementing the 2022 2026 International Program, “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood” under the guidance of International President and CEO, Danette Anthony Reed This multi faceted program galvanizes our sisterhood of more than 120,000 active members to lead the way in Empowering our Families, Building our Economic Wealth, Enhancing our Environment, Advocating for Social Justice, and uplifting our community.
The Tau Beta Omega Endowed Scholarship Fund through the Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF) was developed to promote lifelong learning by awarding scholarships to deserving high school seniors, undergraduates, and graduate/professional students from across the country. Over the years we’ve awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships. Our 2022 recipients represent some of the country’s most prestigious universities, including Howard University, University of California Los Angeles, University of Southern California, Chapman University, and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Your support today ensures Tau Beta Omega can continue delivering impactful community service and funding higher education for tomorrow’s leaders.

Leslie Sykes is Co-Anchor of the ABC7 Morning Show from 4:30 am to 7:00 am, weekdays. She joined ABC7 in 1994.
Leslie was born in San Diego, California and grew up in Compton. She attended St. Joseph High School and then Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, where she majored in English. Upon graduation, Leslie took a job as a General Assignment Reporter at the Los Angeles Herald Examiner.
Leslie completed an internship at KCOP and was a Desk Assistant at KTTV before landing her first on-air job in Hattiesburg, Mississippi at WDAM. There she reported and anchored three shows a day and produced a newscast. She went on to work at WVUE in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dr. Brittani Hicks currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Genesis Concierge Medicine, which provides holistic medical care services for clients, and is the founder of The Hicks Health Foundation. Dr. Hicks was born in Long Beach, California, and was exposed to health inequities in her community at a young age. As a result of her diverse experiences, Dr. Hicks has made it her life's work to educate and empower her community with health information to make their lives better. Dr. Hicks has over ten years of experience providing culturally competent medical care to families in need. She holds professional memberships in the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and Black Nurses Rock (BNR).
In 2021, Dr Hicks founded The Hicks Health Foundation (HHF) in response to the disparate impact the COVID 19 pandemic had on people of color in the greater Los Angeles County The Foundation's missional focus is to ensure immigrant families and Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) in southern California are educated on methods to improve their quality of life, empowered to make better decisions concerning their overall health, and have access to quality and culturally competent medical care To date, HHF has hosted 12 COVID 19 testing, vaccination, and supply drives, providing support to just over 1,000 families
Dr Brittani Hicks received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Indiana State University, a Master of Science Degree in Nursing Education from the United States University in San Diego, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice Degree from Touro University She and her husband, Michael, have two young children, Madison and Michael Jr

Through Aaron's vision and leadership, Misha's has grown from a local farmers' market cult brand in Los Angeles to a regional grocery powerhouse, available in major retailers across the Pacific Southwest, Pacific Northwest, Rockies, Hawaii, and the Texas region. With expansion on the horizon into the Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast, Aaron attributes Misha's success thus far to being a lifelong builder of overachieving teams while simultaneously rolling up his sleeves to get the job done. Aaron is also committed to impacting real change in the community by launching Misha's Kindness Inc., a 501(c)(3) that provides food security programs, blood drives (in partnership with Cedars Sinai), and environmental awareness programs within underserved Los Angeles communities.
Before Misha's, Aaron was a serial entrepreneur with a proven track record for turning concepts into fully formed, successful, and highly lucrative businesses. Aaron is a licensed Traditional Naturopath with a Business Analysts Certification from Harvard Business School. He’s shown tremendous success creating profitable companies that generate positive financial benefits for his partners while increasing the quality of life for his customer base at a consistently fair cost.

Emmy Award winning journalist, Jemele Hill is the Co founder of Lodge Freeway Media and a contributing writer for The Atlantic.
In April of 2019, Hill debuted a new podcast on Spotify, called Jemele Hill is Unbothered Unbothered explores the news of the day and the intersectionality between the worlds of sports, politics, music, identity, and culture. Unbothered is an honest, thought provoking, always entertaining analysis of American life, discussed in real time as it unfolds. Previous guests included Senator Kamala Harris, Ava DuVernay, Common, Ice Cube, Spike Lee, and Soledad O’Brien. On April 15, 2020, Hill along with Van Lathan, launched the podcast, The Wire: Way Down in the Hole The podcast will break down every episode of the HBO classic series The podcast recaps the show, critical foreshadowing highlights signature moments, and hands out “signature” awards Late this summer, Hill will co host a weekly nightly talk show with her longtime friend, former ESPN anchor, Cari Champion, on the Vice Network called Cari & Jemele: Stick to Sports. The show will cover politics, sports, news, current events, and pop culture.
Before joining the Undefeated, Hill co anchored the 6 p.m. SportsCenter with Michael Smith, which debuted in February 2017 as a more personality driven approach to the traditional SportsCenter Hill originally joined ESPN in 2006 as a national columnist for ESPN com Her profile gradually rose as she made appearances on television, including SportsCenter, First Take, Around the Horn, The Sports Reporters, and Outside the Lines. She also spent a season as a sideline reporter for ESPN college football games. Her foray into daily television began in 2013, when she and Smith began co hosting the daily sports discussion show, His & Hers, which sprang from their popular podcast of the same name
Before joining ESPN, Hill was a sports columnist for the Orlando Sentinel from 2005 06 the lone African America female sports columnist in the country. From 1999 2005, she served as a sports writer with the Detroit Free Press covering Michigan State football and basketball. Hill began her career in 1997 as a general assignment sports writer for the Raleigh News & Observer. In August 2018, the National Association of Black Journalist awarded Hill with the Journalist of the Year Award In July 2016, Hill participated in Emmy Award winning, The President and the People: A National Conversation a one hour town hall with President Barack Obama on race relations, justice, policing, and equality
A native of Detroit, Hill graduated from Michigan State University in 1997 with a degree in Journalism and a minor in Spanish. In November of 2019, Hill married Ian Wallace.

Mrs. Alicia Coulter, MPH, MSW, is the CEO & Co-Founder of Advantage Health Now and AHN Foundation. Her experience of more than ten years in healthcare and advocacy for Black and Brown people has made her a leader within the healthcare space.
Mrs. Coulter obtained her master’s degree in Public Health from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her master’s degree in Social Work from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Alicia’s academic and professional foundation is centered in Critical Race Theory, which she values and assesses every day as she and her team develop and implement programming to empower and strengthen the lives of marginalized and underserved communities. She is a highly sought after consultant and speaker with a passion for equity and inclusion and a heart for education. Mrs. Coulter is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Mu Lambda Omega Chapter
Mrs. Coulter has worked tirelessly to develop and provide culturally sensitive health programs for the Black community to help combat COVID-19 and encourage vaccinations. She’s been awarded COVID-19 vaccine funding from the State of California in 2021 and 2022, along with CARES Act funding and racial reconciliation funding from the City of Long Beach in 2020. Mrs. Coulter has been featured for her work on The Business of Being Black with Tammi Mac on FOX Soul and the Black News Channel.
Although Mrs. Coulter’s professional accomplishments are some of her highest achievements and accomplishments, her highest achievement is being the wife to Chad for over 21 years and the mother to her three daughters, Kayla, Klarisa, and Kara.
