PROJECT DISCRIPTION
Enhancement in aviation facilities for Mumbai is essential to maintain the leadership of the state of Maharashtra in attracting Foreign Direct Investment thereby creating a place of pride for itself and adding to the prosperity of its people. The existing airport at Mumbai, is fast reaching saturation. To meet the growing demands of air travel, CIDCO has proposed the development of a new airport at Navi Mumbai.

The Location of the Proposed International Airport at Navi Mumbai has been considered on several parameters.
AIM:
To design a greenfield international airport offering world-class facilities for passengers, aircrafts and airlines.
greenfield airport at Navi Mumbai with maintaining the standards and quality of the required spaces make an understanding of the architecture style to use it in the design .To improve the design of airport terminals to provide a more convenient environment for passengers and airport staff. .Design aspects, climatic conditions and geographical features of the site are to be considered in the design.
SITE ANALYSIS
Navi-mumbai is expected to absorb the future growth in population, business and commercial activities of the mumbai region. The Navi Mumbai International Airport is proposed to be developed in an area of 2,867 Acres ,Accommodating parallel runways for simultaneous and independent operations with full length taxiways on either side of the runways.

LAT 19.5’ to 19.15’ LAT 72.55’ to 73.5’
TOPOGRAPHY The site is flat in most of the areas but some hilly area are there in western side of the site which can be flattened and uses for leveling of the site.
AREA - 1150 Hectare , 2,867 Acres VEGETATION -Scarsily vegetate. -Most of the area in the site is farm land.
CLIMATE -
THREATS -Panvel river creek passing through site which needs to be diverted.
Average Temperature varies from -High tension lines passing through 22’c to 36’c. site which needs to be shifted.
AVERAGE ANNUAL RAINFALL OPPORTUNITIES 2000 -2500 mm. Average humidity is 61 - 86 %
WEAKNESS -
-The wind data revils that the wind direction is from West-North-West directions. so the runway can be orinted parallel tto wind directions which is along the length of the site.
The site does not have good conditioned roads to access the site -Building height in the funneling area and deliver the materials. is less than that of permitted height which makes it feasible to align - High-tension lines through the site. runway in the given direction .
-Clear zone extend up to 10,000 ft (3 km ) at a slope of 20:1 restriction for building height starting from threshold area of runway. -Panvel creek- can provide good green space around the airport
LOCAL SETTING - STRENGTH The Proposed airport is situvated in the geographical centre of Navi -Mumbai at Lattitude 18’59’40’N and Longitude 73’04’13” E on the national Highway No.4B Near Panvel. - The natinal highway 4B Provides the main road access to airport from the east. - and Amar Marg from the West. -also accessible from the existing Mankur - Belapur -Panvel & ThanePanvel commuter rail corriders from kandeswar railway station & from Targhar railway.
CONCEPT :
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
Provide lesiure and world class fassicilty connecting Navi Mumbai to the rest of the world. The dynamic facade is the key architectural element highlighting neuron concept and a central focal point.
The runways are designed parallel.
CONCEPT AND DEVELOPMENT
DESIGN
The air side and the land side segregated easily passenger entry towards the west and service entry towards the east. Terminal building is placed centrally so easy access from land side and air-side .
The site have two access, west is Amar Marg and east NH 4B which connects Provision for future expansion is to sion Panvel express way. foreseen connecting Navi Mumbai and Mumbai metropolitan region through expressway. ROOFING: Steel space framed truss supported on structural Mega Columns and covered with translucent and clear ETFE membrane . along with solar panels .
ATC tower placed between the two runway for full length traffic control. Maintenance hangars and service building s are located near the second access. Curved building structural massing for maximum aircraft capacity and passenger capacity. Pier type is chosen since it can handle more number of passengers.
Structural columns: 2 m dia concrete columns supported with steel angled split coluns with angle cletes.
SITE LAYOUT SITE AREA :2,867 Acres The Passenger entry is from the west side accessible from the Amar -Marg highway. The entry is from an elevated Flyover in order to give a complete view of the terminal. Cargo Terminal Functions independently having seperate service entry for service vehicles The Passenger entry is from the west side 2 Runways 3700 m x 60 m with full length attached Parellel taxiway orienting 08/26 Future expansion is towards the west having connection to the city side with seperate entry. COVERAGE - 1.25 - 2.9 F.A.R - 0.03 Service entry is from the east side Feeder buses for acessibilty to airport terminal builidng.

It will enhance seamless travel around the terminals for passengers due to its centerpiece location. To use landscape elements to enhance and to become a dominant feature of the architecture.
