In India, astrology and marriage often go hand in hand. People can be very superstitious, and the fate of a marriage is often predicted taking into account the horoscope chart compatibilities of a couple. There are 12 houses in a person’s horoscope, and the planetary position during their day and time of birth can determine the characteristics of that individual. It is believed that if the planetary position of Mars is in the 1 st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 10th house of an individual, they have manglik Dosh.

How do you determine if someone has Manglik Dosh? In astrology, the planet Mars is considered to be a fiery planet. The heat and energy of the planet Mars is explosive, even destructive. It is believed in Hindu astrology that if the presence of Mars in indicated in the 1 st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 10th house of a person’s horoscope, they have Manglik Dosh. Here are a few facts (and myths busted) about Manglik Dosh that you should know:

1. A Manglik should only marry another Manglik: It is believed that if a Manglik marries a non Manglik, the marriage would end in disaster, causing death to the spouse or their in laws. However, there is no scientific basis behind this statement, and there have been several instances where this was proved false. 2. Being born on a Tuesday: Many people believed for centuries that those born on a Tuesday are unlucky as they suffer the ill effects of Manglik Dosh. However, recently, astrologers have started to suggest the opposite, saying that the effects of Mangal Dosh are neutralized if someone is born on a Tuesday. This just goes to show that there is no proper basis or truth behind these beliefs. 3. Effect of double manglik Dosh: This is one of the biggest misconceptions of astrology and is a complete myth which should be busted immediately. It is said that if Mars is positioned in its own house, the effects of Mangal Dosh double, thus leading to a double Manglik dosh. This is a big misconception and is in fact opposite from the truth. In reality, the ill effects of Manglik Dosh decrease if Mars is present in its own house.

4. Being a Manglik is a curse: Due to the predominance of Mars in their horoscope, the individual is said to have strong, fiery and independent characteristics. However, this does not need to be perceived as bad. The Manglik individual is said to be determined, strong willed focused and disciplined. Only another strong willed person will be able to deal with being married to a Manglik with such strong qualities. 5. Manglik and second marriage: A Manglik’s first marriage will lead to disaster and death of their spouse. Their second marriage would be a success. This is another misconception, as the prediction of a marriage cannot be guaranteed, and depends on the individual completely. 6. Prayers and pujas: One of the remedies to rid a Manglik of their ill effects can be to offer prayers and pujas to Lord Hanuman and to the temples of Lord Mangal. This can help the Manglik in decreasing the effects of Mangal Dosh in their life. 7. Manglik dosh and science: Manglik Dosh is connected more to religion (Hindu) than astrology. This is seen as we can observe that the concept of Manglik Dosh exists only among Hindu’s and not any other religion. Even if astrology is practiced in Western countries, there is no concept of Manglik Dosh. It is thus safe to say that Manglik Dosh is connected to religion and superstition and not science and astrology. 8. Marriage and divorce: The marriage of a Manglik will undoubtedly end in divorce. This is a myth, as there are many instances of successful Manglik and non Manglik marriages. It is often seen that many marriages are broken due to this

superstition. This is a wrong step to take, as the success of a marriage completely depends upon the individuals themselves and not their Manglik Dosh. 9. Mild Manglik and Complete Manglik: While some Mangliks can have mild ill effects, others are full Mangliks, giving them the entire wrath of manglik Dosh. This is again, a myth, and no such concept actually exists. 10. A Manglik should only marry after 28 years of age: It is believed that by the age of 28, most of the ill effects of Mangal Dosh reduce. This statement however, cannot be backed up by any proof or science. There are several facts and myths which revolve around the concept of Mangliks and Mangal Dosh, and most of them can be revealed using scientific facts.
