What's your brand name? marQued wears What's the first word that you would use to define your brand? Fantabulous How long have you been around? Five years - on and off. What has the journey been like? Hmmmm… its not been and it still isn't easy, but I give all the glory to God, He's been keeping me going and He's taking me to an unimaginable height. What's it like starting up a business in Nigeria? It's a nightmare, but if you have the passion for what you wanna do, just wake up and start it anyway. Tell us about the worst experience you've had I’ve had many many many bad experiences, ranging from financial issues, acceptance, debtors and so on, but I think the one topping my list is one I had with a fellow ‘so called’ fashion designer that stole and recreated one of my designs and was still proud to admit his piracy. Have you ever wanted to quit? Have I? or how many times have I?... lol..Yes oo!!! I’ve even quitted twice, but I’m done quitting. So help me God. *Chuckles

We know business is tough in Naija, what has kept you going all this while? Yes ooo! Its not a pot of beans at all.. but God is my number one source of inspiration and strength, so yea God then my zeal to wanna make an impact in this generation and a mark for generations to come, then of cause my loyal and lovely friends and clients that keep encouraging me, even when I’ve done bad and gotten it all wrong they let me know and still support me, I love you guys to pieces. What else would you have done if not fashion? Many things oo…. I always wanted to and still wish I could be a radio presenter, I would have loved to be a PR person, I would have gone into publishing, ati bhe bhe lo (etc.)... hehe! What do you love the most about the business in Naija? Hiaan!.. lol… I love the acceptance, appreciation and wonderful feedback. The competition and despite how it’s not so cool being a young female in this particular side of the industry is, and I love the profit. And what do you hate? Haaa!!! I hate the stress, I hate the vast availability of poor quality in everything we use for production; I hate the fact that the good ones are not always available; I hate all those alaroro (miserly) customers that want your good product but keep complaining and comparing your price to the substandard rubbish most of the other ‘so called’ designers are making… that's to mention a few. Any mentors? Jesus, Mrs Kate Edukugho and my brothers.

What's the future of your brand? We going global and I mean that, not with just clothing but… lips sealed. WATCH OUT FOR MARQUED!!! What makes you stand out? Our interactive designs, fun colours and playful but outstanding visual marketing stunts. What would you say is the recent trend in your field? Mixing of other materials with t-shirt cotton material. How do you think Nigerian fashion is doing generally today? I think we are doing pretty well, but I’ll encourage fashion designers to be more original and stop trying to mimic foreigners. What would you love to change or contribute to make things better? First, I’ll love to make good quality materials for production more available, then encourage originality and provide funds and other forms of support for starters. Cos really there are many young ones out there with awesome and brilliant ideas Tell us about yourself… how do you relax? I’m a very easy going person; sorry but I don't do anything special to relax for now, not like I don't love to or want to, but there’s just so much on my plate for now. Your best n worst foods Amala and fried meat stew with ewedu… worst?? Errrrm maybe lizard toe salad… lol. Can you cook and clean? Hehehehe! If I don't do it… who will?... YES O! despite how busy I think I am, I still go on Cinderella mode once I enter my house gate.

There are times when you can actually wear your shoes without socks on, especially in this part of the world where the weather is much warmer through the year. Here are some notable tips to have when deciding to go sockless with your shoes.

Slimmer trousers To look more composed without your socks, you should better be in skinnier trousers. This makes you look smart and failsafe and sends a message that you know just what you are doing. Don’t have your trousers flapping all over the place.

Take a note from the Italians Probably the best kind of trousers to go for is the slim fitted chino. Note

that the base of the trouser should be just about 2 inches above the rim of your shoes, enough to expose the ankles. Stylish Italian men sport this style a lot.

Choose your shoes The number one shoe to wear when going without socks is a loafer. But if you are styling for the office, you might want to go with thin-sole derbies. The idea again is to look smart.

The Occasion Going sockless can sometimes make you look really classy, particularly when you opt to wear some boat shoes without socks. Besides, boat shoes though, you can sport all kinds of footwear from Oxfords to Vans to create different appeals for different occasions. Note here that you can wear denims, shorts and casual suits as well, so long as you’re right for the occasion; and there are varying opinions about this style in a corporate setting but then.

Consider the weather and environment You shouldn’t sacrifice comfort because you want to be stylish. If the weather is cold, then you should review this idea; and if it’s rainy, getting your shoes wet might lead to them smelling later on; furthermore, a hot sunny day might leave you sweating right into your shoes which is another odour maker not to mention the discomfort- which leads to the next point….

from imgbuddy.com

Don’t actually go sockless Yes, you should still wear socks. Wear invisible socks to absorb the sweat that comes from wearing leather shoes all day long. Note here that you can do without this, but it wouldn’t be the best recommendation for both your feet and your shoes.

Have useful accessories Consider items like a foot antiperspirant spray, and in some cases, even light powder could help your feet absorb moisture too. As for your shoes… be sure to have your cedar shoe tree handy; Insole items like Terry cloth or leather insoles to help absorb sweat and eliminate odours; and Moleskin patches which you’d use in places of friction to avoid blisters.
