As executive director of Leesburg Center for the Arts, I welcome you to the 39th Annual Leesburg Art Festival. I am so proud to be a part of the team that brings artists, musicians, actors, and dancers together from all over the country to celebrate the culture that makes our community unique. As white tents pop up all over historic downtown Leesburg, the excitement of spring brings an opportunity for artists and appreciative audiences to come together each year in an atmosphere unlike any other. This year’s festival will be an exciting opportunity for families to come and enjoy a day together, with no admission fee. There will be a kids’ zone near Town Square with plenty of activities for the whole family, and the Town Square Stage near city hall will have live entertainment featuring musicians, dancers, and performers from all over Central Florida. Don’t miss the Student Art Exhibit and the Leesburg Art Association Spring Show at the Leesburg Center for the Arts at the corner of Fifth and Magnolia streets. On the east end of Main Street, you’ll enjoy the Third Annual Literary Arts Festival hosted by the Leesburg Public Library and a variety of performances on the East End Stage, provided by the performing artists groups from the Leesburg Center for the Arts. Visit one of the gourmet food trucks, meet an emerging artist, and participate in “Walk with the Expert” while here. There’s also a classic car show and an opportunity to spot a “Living Windows” version of your favorite masterpieces. The artists you’ll find up and down Main Street are among the best in the country. You’ll certainly be moved by their artwork, and I invite you to make their art a part of your life by purchasing something you can enjoy for a lifetime. As you walk the streets of downtown Leesburg this weekend, you’ll find a fantastic mix of cultures and methods of expression. We are a living, breathing, thriving destination for visitors with much to offer. We are an exciting community for residents to live and work in. I hope you’ll bring your family this weekend. It’s a wonderful place to be!

ABOUT THE EVENT

WHAT’S A JURIED ART FESTIVAL?

The Leesburg Art Festival is a juried show. In mid-summer of each year, artists who wish to apply submit three digital images of their work, as well as an image of their booth set-up and a short artist statement that explains the process of producing their art. They pay a small fee for the jury, or selection committee, to consider them as potential participating artists. Once the deadline closes for artist applications, usually in early December, the jury panel is assembled. It is usually composed of artists, art educators, knowledgeable art patrons, and gallery owners. To ensure impartiality, entries receive a number and no artists’ names appear during the selection process. The jury panel determines which artists are accepted into the show based on technical skill, creativity, the medium, originality, marketability, and general appeal. Artists chosen by the jury panel receive invitations to participate in the festival. These artists then have a short time to respond to the invitation. In order to reserve their space in the festival, they must pay their booth fee by the deadline, which is usually in mid-January. Artists and craftspersons usually prefer to be with other creative people rather than mixed in with importers, resellers, and manufacturers at an “open,” or non-juried, show. The goal of the Leesburg Art Festival is a wellrounded show with art for sale at many different price points. However, it is original art created by the artists you meet during the weekend.

Dedicated to the fine art of pastel painting.

PLAZA CADILLAC PERSONALLY BLESSED. CADILLAC PROUD.

As I personally reflect back on this past year here at Plaza Cadillac, I truly realize just how blessed I am to be surrounded by such a wonderful family both at home and here at the dealership. I have a fantastic wife, six wonderful children and two grandchildren, all of which fill my life with joy. Even our two cats have mellowed out and have started liking me, which I thought would never happen! I look at each and every one that works here at Plaza Cadillac as a member of the Plaza family along with every customer that does business with us. We often tell our new customers just how much we appreciate them becoming a member of the Plaza family and we truly mean it! Just as it is to be a husband, father and grandfather, it is also so very rewarding to be surrounded by a team of employees that share in the same philosophies that I do, greet guests with a warm smile and then take every step to ensure they are completely satisfied with their visit. At Plaza Cadillac, we are proud of our profession and are obsessed with providing a world class environment for our guests to do business in. Simply stated, we are truly passionate about Cadillac and love helping our customers celebrate their life success stories. At Plaza Cadillac, we are so fortunate to be able to provide such outstanding products, service and the benefits of ownership that only Cadillac Motor Division offers. That is the reason we find that once a customer makes the decision to drive a Cadillac, they just keep coming back. We sell a great product and then it is our responsibility to make the ownership experience the best that it can be. That is our challenge and we love it! The model year 2016 has several wonderful new product offerings which will be covered in the following pages. The long-term product plans for Cadillac are even more exciting. I cannot disclose at this time what is on the horizon but please stay in contact with us here at the dealership and we will let you know. As I mentioned, it is exciting! It is our pleasure to once again be a supporter and sponsor of the Annual Leesburg Arts Festival. Plaza Cadillac is very involved in our local community and involvement like this is just another small way of saying “Thank you to our followers.

DIGITAL PAINTING ARTIST

JOHN LEBEN

Digital Artist John Leben exhibits in galleries and museums in his home state of Michigan as well as around 20 art fairs a year in the Midwest and Florida. He creates paintings in his computer and uses the finished paintings as printing plates for producing archival-quality limited edition prints on water-color paper and canvas. His recent work uses surrealistic imagery and fantasy as well as humor to comment on environmental issues. Leben calls his recent work the Urban Punk Series, the culmination of three years of digital paintings on environmental themes. He is a pioneer in the use of the computer as a fine art medium. “I’ve been painting in the computer now for about 15 years, experimenting with different techniques and printing technologies,” said Leben. “It’s only in the last few years that the computer has become fully accepted as a creative art medium.” Each of Leben’s pictures take three to four weeks to complete. “There used to be a false impression that digital art is created by a computer,” remembers Leben. “But these pictures are meticulously painted by hand, one stroke at a time, using digital paintbrushes. They are painted by me, using the computer.”

CAROL NAPOLI “I develop paintings using the medium of acrylic paint. My process weaves surface nuances, color images, and abstracted compositional shapes to form narrative themes expressing life in spiritual terms. I enjoy both the formal aspects of art and its less easily defined intuitive and emotional side. It is my hope to create images that speak to the heart as well as bring interest and delight to the viewer.” “As mark upon mark; image upon image the history of our past forms the foundation for each new expression. His mercy brings the freedom to express this fresh vision and possibilities of the new morning. Truly mercy triumphs over judgment and so we have joy in each new day and hope with each new canvas.”

POS TER ARTIST

SHARON PEBBLE The Poster Artist for the 2016 Leesburg Art Festival is Acrylic Painter Sharon Repple. She produced two paintings “Sunny Day” and “Florida Oranges” which were then combined by graphic artist Andrea Pearlman to create this year’s official festival poster artwork, which celebrates the history of the citrus industry in Leesburg, Florida.

SUNNY DAY

FIND Sharon’s work, along with Festival Posters and t-shirts will be available for purchase at the Leesburg Art Festival in Booth 506 in Town Square.

Sharon Repple has always loved to create and with encouragement from her family and high school art teacher, Dorothy Cox, art has become an integral part of her life. During earlier years, she worked primarily in graphite and watercolor. After raising a family, Sharon returned to college in her forties and graduated with a degree in accounting. In 2007, she retired to Florida where Sharon was able to devote herself to her art. At this time, she began to paint with acrylics in a representational style. Her award winning landscape and wildlife paintings are inspired by the beauty of God’s creation found in the rural and coastal scenes of Georgia and Florida. Sharon has studied with Stephen Bach, Roger Bansemer and Mary Segars. Her husband, Clair, makes many of her frames. Sharon is a member of the Leesburg Art Association, International Society of Acrylic Painters ISAP-FL, ISAP, NOAPS and Ocala Art Group. Sharon Repple is represented by Artisans on Fifth and Florida Faience Gallery in Mount Dora, FL.
