Taking as our inspiration the ancient definition of art as the mirror of nature, we propose a studio centered on the art museum as a site for research into the active and passive mechanical systems that properly support the storage, display, and experience of varied works of art. The art museum brief remains an excellent design research tool offering three distinct but related arenas for exploration:

- Aesthetic issues involved in a building type to experience visual and performance art.

- Technical issues in the marriage of art and science.

- Social/urban issues in the expectation that museums are both exemplary and didactic in their address to a broad public
