The idea that science center will be a sort of "House of science", where every citizen will find their understanding of the intellectual and cultural identity. Proposed innovation complex becomes a mental intangible door to our past, present and future; become a place of collective memory and knowledges. All of these features will help in the development of the Kaunas self-identity. The new complex " Science center in Kaunas" is an intention to create a new, full of life, the center of culture, history, communication and exchange of ideas. The main leitmotif of the project proposal - an attempt to create an object not as a physical building, but rather a new space of collective memory and identity, a meeting place for people and stories. The system of open spaces, where the spectacular landscape of Kaunas is interweave with the rich cultural activities, which will be cultivated in science building. Preservation of natural site - the basic principle of volume organization.

SUSTAINABILITY AND FEASIBILITY

Proposal of external design with natural materials

SI-77327

Proposal of new bridge

6/6

Sustainable strategy

Energy production Photovoltaic roof panels absorb solar energy which is then stored and/or delivered as electricity, covering the needs of the LED-based lighting system.

Materials For wall material was choosen multylayer facade system with natural insulation and cooper metal as a finish layer.

Climate analysis of Kaunas For climate analysis of this project was choosen CLIMATE CONSULTANT

Water collector/ recycling

Natural ventilation

Rain water is received and directed along the top of the building to a storage tank, from which it can be used both as irrigation and domestic water Grey waters are colected, recycled and pumped back into system.

Automated control system of the atrium windows allow for a passive control of internal temperatures, taking advantage of the building’s thermal inertia, which allows for heat accumulation during day time and natural ventilation during the night.

The chart shows the temperature during the year in different months and its realation the comfort zone
