Throughout my years of academia, I kept asking myself one question: “why design?”. After hours of research, studio, and coffee, I finally discovered an answer I was confident with: “to help shape the world”. Architectural design has always interested me from a young age. Throughout the four years I spent studying at the John H. Daniels Faculty, my appreciation for design work grew exponentially as I learned to understand much about both the history of architecture and its current direction as a field. I personally have become drawn to landscape design, as I believe that sustainable practices and structures that adapt over time are vital in a generation that is changing so rapidly. I aim to take the skills I have gained both in and out of the classroom to provide smarter designs for my community, and to use my appreciation for architecture to better the lives of those around me.

Daniels Wesley Towers Rafael & Bigauskas, 2017
Having worked with Daniels prevously, this two-tower condominium project would be my second venture into the architectural field. The project consisted of a rental building and a condominium tower for the Region of Peel and the City of Mississauga respectively, exposing me not only to the various design guidelines of both municipalities but the intricacies of working for a variety of different clients within the same project. My responsibilities for The Wesley Towers ranged from organizing working drawings for the building permit set, to consulting with interior designers/mechanical engineers/structural engineers to ensure that the project was code compliant and properly designed. My main task was to complete suite layouts while curating marketing drawings (as seen above).
DWELL Studio Figure3, 2018
Grenadier Square High Park
2 Apartment Towers, 2 Amenity Buildings
Looking to expand my design horizons, I transitioned into the residential studio (DWELL) at Figure3 seamlessly. Brought on for my experience in Revit, I worked on a variety of high-rise projects producing construction documentation and contract administration. Much of my role included drawing in AutoCAD and Revit to create floor plans, interior elevations, suite kitchen and bathroom details, and ceiling/wall/floor/millwork details. I worked alongside desingers and consultants, as well as attending site meetings. Within six months, I was enstrusted with becoming the primary technologist for the Grenadier Square project. This project intended to directly counteract the urban disconnectivity issue presented by the Georgetown South Corridor infrastructure (located in Liberty Village). The structure itself is a bridge that connects both Western Battery and Douro, Also acting as a train station for those looking to transfer between the GO transit and UP Express before Union Station. However, the most important program is the book exchange; an interpretation of the future of the library. Wraparound shelves on the bridge and on the platform invites visitors to take and drop books as they please, encourging public participation and providing Liberty Village with a non-commercial public amenity, something which the neighbourhood currently lacks.
