W here Am I Going: Demographics & Geography Uganda is a country in East Africa with a size o f a b o u t 2 3 6 , 0 0 0 s q u a re m i l e s ( a p p ro x i m a t e l y t h e s i z e o f O re g o n ) t h a t l i e s a c ro s s t h e e q u a t o r a t t h e n o r t h w e s t s h o re s o f L a k e V i c t o r i a . T h e country is located on the East African plateau, averaging about 1100 meters (3,250 L) above s e a l e v e l . T h e re a re c u r re n t l y a n e s t i m a t e d 3 2 million people living in Uganda with an annua l p o p u l a t i o n g ro w t h r a t e o f 3 . 6 % . Language

Since English is the language of secondary and university education, many Ugandans in the cities speak English, however English is much less common i n t h e v i l l a g e s .
