Three Dog Bakery Process Book

Page 1

Who is Three Dog Bakery? Three Dog Bakery was founded in 1989 as the first dog bakery. They started out using 100% all natural ingredients, No refined sugars, and human-quality ingredients. For a lot of people this was crazy, but what was crazy then, is right now. Three Dog Bakeries gave pet owner another option for feeding their pets. Granted Three Dog Bakery is a franchise it is a small franchise that needs help with their branding. Three Dog Bakery store is an inviting and exciting place for pets and the people that treasure them. That’s why they are very welcoming to have dogs come into the shop to pick out their own treats.

Current Branding logo Design

There current logo is very grungy and looks as if it has been live traced badly. I also didn’t think it spoke for the company very well. Three Dog Bakery is very warm and inviting. This logo is very dark, un-inviting and too boring.

Brochure

This was a Brochure I picked up from three dog bakery when visiting. Judging by this and a lot of other things in the store it seems that they hadn’t really established an overall theme. They use the illustration on a lot of their products as well as the striped color scheme and the grungy textured brown look. There Branding Seems too cluttered and not well directed.

Visiting the Bakery

By just simply visiting Three Dog Bakery I had so much to work with. Also it helped a lot with brainstorming and getting a true sense of what Three Dog Bakery really is. From what I gathered while I was there was that there fun, welcoming, warm, and fun. I also noticed by the decor that the place was high end and Industrial on the inside, but had identity crises. As I said before there is a disconnect from there branding and what the place really looks like.

Logo Sketches Round 1

For the logo I knew I didn’t want your typical logo where it would have font placed on a dog bone or a dog with a chef hat. I thought of many ideas such as a dog jumping up and biting the logo as if it is a treat, a Logo that was very type based and loopy And fun, or play off the idea of “Three” DOG Bakery and have a three layer cake with dog collars.

Logo Sketches Round 2

DOG

The next step was making my logos vector and playing with them from there. I expanded on a lot of my ideas form the first round of sketches and dropped some ideas completely. The Logo I focused on the most was the hand drawn logo. It looked the beast, and was the one I was the most exited about.

Final Three Logos

Color Pallet For the final three sketches it was clear the one I like the most and the one I decided to go further with. The one in the middle really fit the company and worked well with everything that you would do with a logo such as resizing and placement. For the color pallet I was really looking for an old retro feel for my Rebranding.

Final Logo

I was very happy with the way the final logo turned out. I felt it was very fun and inviting and capture the essence of three dog bakery well. The logo was made by drawing the logo first on paper and then tracing it in InDesign. The logo took a lot of time because I wanted it to work well with scaling and be versatile. 7

Inspiration

Character Development

I knew I wanted my Three Dog Bakery branding to be very illustrative. I started out working on the dog in illustrator to make the simple shape and then latter transferred it into Photoshop to add detail and paint the hair. I looked at a lot of different illustration of dogs to make my decision of how the dog would look. He was made very large so I could transfer him to any sixe Document.

Pastry Box design

I first Item I stared to design for this project was the seal that would be placed on the dog treat boxes. I knew the seal would be small and be a good a good thing to experiment and really get my style down for the rest of the branding project.

Comp box

I knew the style of the box I really wanted to make for this project but didn’t know how to go about actually making it. I built a box ahead of time to see if I was possible to make this for the project and it was a success.

Final Pastry Box Design

This is the final Pastry box that would be used to put the dog treats in for the customers. The unique shape makes it very different from other pastry boxes I’ve seen. The box is made out of paper that has had the design printed on to it. I tried to pick a paper that was thicker and had a tooth to it to give it a unique texture. 12

Web Design This is the website re-design for three dog bakery. I wanted to make it less dark and brown from the website they have now, and make it more warm, and inviting. As you scroll across each of the Words in the global navigation a rectangular box comes down and display words and text about each of the topics, as a preview of what is to come if you click on it. I really wanted the illustration to be a dominant part in the website design. That is why it is front and center and at the top of the page.

Apron Design

14

This is an apron that will be used for the people who work at three dog bakery. I wanted to make the apron white so that they appear more clean and presentable. Also it really makes the logo pop out more from the apron. I felt like changing the color would look bad and making them appear dirty. I also didn’t want to make them to Illustrative and tried to add a small touch of illustration by having the dog small beside the logo. I figured they should be more presentable because they are work uniforms.

15

Business Card

This is Three Bog Bakery’s business card design. I really wanted to use the bold orange from the other pieces and apply it to the business card to make it more eye-catching and appealing. The card was printed on a paper that has a tooth to it to give it a unique texture. Also I knew I did not want to go too overboard with adding any of the illustration to the card because it is a “business” card and should be more simple and easy to read.

16

Gift Card

This is the three dog bakery gift card. I really wanted to use the illustration to make it eye-catching and try to make getting the gift card just as good as getting the gift. I used a paw print pattern on the front as a texture on top of the green and used the light brown color on the inside. The gift card is more colorful to stand out from the packaging.
