ittaya Klim will be entering her fifth season as head swimming and diving coach at The University of Akron, a position she assumed on April 20, 2006. The 2009-10 season saw Klim mentor Kendall Karchner to the Mid-American Conference 200-yard backstroke title, and place three swimmers on All-MAC Teams. Karchner received first team honors, while senior Steph Zielinski and freshman Katie Miles were named to the second team. Additionally, the 2009-10 season saw six individual UA records fall, while three relay records were broken. Klim also continued to push excellence in the classroom, as Karchner, Zielinski, Leeanna Hoover, and Madelyn Robinson were all named to the Academic AllMAC squad. The 2009-10 squad won five dual meets as well as taking third place at the Zippy Invitational and fifth at the MAC Championships. In 2008-09, the Zips’ program posted a 6-6 mark in dual matches, and placed third in the annual Zippy Invitational. Akron once again placed fifth in the MAC Championships, shattering 13 school records in the process. Overall, the 2008-09 UA swimming and diving squad broke 14 school records and Katie Carter and Zielinski were named first team and second team All-MAC, respectively. The 2007-08 campaign was highlighted by Zielinski’s first of three all-conference seasons, as the standout was named to the All-MAC second team . In her first season in charge, Klim guided Akron to a 5-7 dual meet record and equalled their highest ever MAC Championship finish, taking fifth. “Coach Klim has done a wonderful job building her program here at Akron.” says UA Director of Athletics Tom Wistrcill. “She is a good recruiter and her student-athletes have a wonderful experience being part of the team. Her squad always does well in the classroom and Nittaya promotes a real sense of family amongst the team. Our future in the pool is very bright under her leadership.” Klim - who is just the second head coach in the program’s history - comes to Akron after spending four years as an assistant coach with the Penn State University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. She aided a Nittany Lion women’s team that won back-to-back Big Ten titles in 2005 and 2006. She also helped 10 student-athletes earn All-American status. During her time in State College, Klim served as the recruiting coordinator under head coach Bill Dorenkott and was an instructor at Penn State’s Summer Swim Camp and was the USA Swimming Select Distance Camp Director. HEAD DIVING COACH CHRIS MEDVEDEFF

CHRIS MEDVEDEFF Head Diving Coach Thirteenth Season Akron ‘89

H

ead diving coach Chris Medvedeff will enter his thirteenth season guiding the University of Akron divers. The only diving coach in school history, Medvedeff has built one of the most competitive diving programs in the Mid-American Conference. The 2009-10 season saw two Akron divers place in the top ten in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events at the MAC Championships. Leeanna Hoover took fourth in the threemeter and ninth in the one-meter, and Amanda Angeloff placed ninth in the three-meter and tenth in the one-meter. The season prior, Medvedeff was named MAC Diving Coach of the Year for the third time during his tenure at Akron after mentoring Katie Carter to a sweep of the diving competitions at the 2009 MAC Championships. Carter’s pair of wins were the second and third conference championships of her career, making her the most decorated diver in UA history. The 2008-09 season saw Carter set school records in both diving events, scoring 311.00 in the one-meter springboard at the MAC Championships and 339.68 on the three-meter board against Marshall. Additionally, Medvedeff mentored five divers into the top-15 at the MAC Championships. Under Medvedeff’s tutelage, Carter became one of the most gifted divers in the Mid-American Conference. As a freshman Carter smashed the school and MAC Championship record in the three-meter springboard to upset a very talented field. Carter’s win was the fourth conference championship by a MAC diver in the program’s short history. During the 2004-05 season, Medvedeff was once again named MAC Diving Coach of the Year after leading the Zips’ divers to one of the best showings in program history at the conference championship. Lindsey Powers earned MAC CoDiver of the Year honors and won the three-meter title and Melissa Holbach finished in the top-eight. UA divers totaled 15 event wins during 2004-05, set five individual career bests, two school records, two pool records, and one meet record. Medvedeff was also named MAC Diving Coach of the Year in 2001 after Kathleen Christian and Susan Over had excellent showings at the MAC Championships. Over won the threemeter springboard at the MAC Meet and was the first MAC Champion in program history. Over also won the 10-meter platform exhibition, while Christian placed third in both the onemeter and three-meter competitions. Medvedeff came to Akron after spending the previous eight years as the head coach of the Akron Rippers swim club - a team he also founded. Still very involved on the junior and senior national scene, Chris remains active as the head coach of the Rippers. The Rippers are a consistent player at the junior national level and have featured a junior world team member, two

national champions and numerous national finalists. Medvedeff was the diving coach at Copley High School from 1989-94, where he mentored six state finalists and seven state qulifiers. While in college, he headed the diving program at Akron Firestone High School. Medvedeff has also worked with U.S. divers throughout Europe and has extensive OHSAA experience in Northeast Ohio. Medvedeff graduated from the University of Akron in 1989 with a degree in psychology and a minor in business administration.
