Akshay Garud

Akshay Garud, a Bioengineering student minoring in Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), is expected to graduate in 2025. His rigorous education at this renowned institution, established in 1867, perfectly aligns with his ambitions to innovate at the intersection of biology and technology. His technical proficiency spans multiple programming languages such as Java, Python, and C++, and he is adept in using software like Atom, R Programming, MATLAB Octave, and Node.js. His expertise extends to applications including Microsoft Excel, Onshape, Autocad, Autodesk Inventor, and Imagej, and he possesses skills in 3D Printing, API Testing, and Data Visualization. Academically, he is well-grounded in subjects like Linear Algebra, Machine Learning, and Statistics. Akshay's practical experience is as rich as his academic background. He has contributed to research at the Gritton Lab at UIUC, exploring neural responses of mice in AI-generated mazes, blending his bioengineering knowledge with computer science applications. His internships extend to TrussHealth, a health tech startup utilizing AI for enhanced patient monitoring, where he focused on developing web applications and API testing. Furthermore, his stint at Base Pair Inc. allowed him to delve deep into bioinformatics, particularly in RNA-seq data processing and genomic data analysis, which are pivotal for medical advancements. Beyond the confines of classrooms and labs, Akshay is an active member of the UIUC community.
