MedSIN-Sudan
Dear IFMSAians worldwide, It’s with A great pride and devotion, deepest pleasure, motivation and love to this Federation to send you my candidature for the position of IFMSA Vice President Capacity Building for the term 2016-2017. My name is Alaa Ibrahim, I was born and raised in Khartoum /Sudan, and recently am a 5th year Medical Student at Ahfad University for women/Faculty of Medicine. I still remember years back since I have took my steps to join this Federation, as I have started this Journey from the root level as A member at my Local Committee and never hesitated to ever go forward and share my passion for the volunteer work, health care improvement and have the honor to serve the community, and made me decide that I want to do something with my time that really mattered. However, over years my NMO and IFMSA has became so much to me than ever. Its became an ideal that brings together like-minded people, who share a vision of the world an organization that welcomes everybody is willing to work, and it became my family and friends. As I always looked and still for the glory, I have been hold many position locally with in my committee as I have elected to be the local SecGen and LORP2013 on the same year , moving to national I was part of MedSIN-Sudan National Board2013 till our last NGA where I have been elected as Advisory Board “ SupCo” 2015/2016. Furthermore since I have been an IFMSA Trainer in Dec 2012 and right after being also Youth Peer Trainer, I deeply sunk in Delivering Training sessions, organizing workshops and worked deeply on Capacity building field and found other way out to love & stick to IFMSA even more, till I elected to serve as IFMSA Training Support Division Regional Assistant forAfrica2014/15 in the IFMSA previous term and currently have also being serving the Federation as Capacity Building Regional Assistant for Africa. IFMSA has shown me the incredible potential and impact that medical students can have, and teaches its members skills, knowledge and give them an encouragement to take action that wouldn’t find any were else. All of this combined has made me realize I want to give more back to IFMSA than it has given me so far, making me want to dedicate another year working within this Federation and within the Team of Officials and EB members. All the experiences I have gained in those years and the Passion to this Federation pushed me to candidate for this position and because most I believe in the diversity that IFMSA has, and through this diversity we will achieve our Vision and Mission.

During this long journey, IFMSA has become the integral part of my daily routine. IFMSA is my work, my fun, my joy, my passion and my responsibility. My happiness and emotions are linked with the federation and it has a great impact on my life. I also believe that leadership is a fundamental and basic need for our Federation to grow well, therefore I promise to serve the Federation with dedication, determination, focus, openness, joy and integrity. I am proud and loved to be called IFMSAian, and I consider this as my identity. The federation has given me so much; it’s time that I devote my services for the federation in return. I am candidating with a dream, a dream which I am longing for years to know how it feels to be in the Highest Team, how it feel to serve at this platform. These are not words but my feelings for my federation. I hope you enjoy reading it. Yours Sincerely

diverse Capacity Building team would be my first step of term. I will make sure that I have skilled, experienced and motivated team before the term starts. Open the call for the Team with specified description for the Position needed. Diversity of the team will add a flavor of quality to the work and in the region. I will encourage all the NMOs to apply for it. The Team will be consisting of: a. General Assistant b. 5 Regional Assistants for each region “Africa, Americas, Asia Pacific, EMR, Europe * The Aim of having a general Assistant in my term, because of the intense, loaded work that will be on the IFMSA Capacity Building PLUS administrative work and for the respective RAs to be focusing in the regions. (more discussion will be held with the new elected EB) Run the power of the team.
3. Capacity Building Strategy Capacity Building is the fundamental needs for IFMSA and specifically each NMO need to be developed and capacity build, So for this term I will be developing A Strategy that follows the same THEMES of IFMSA Strategy2014-17 which are: Sustainability, Impact and Relevance and we will achieve that through the coming actions:
4. Categorizing IFMSA Capacity Building Simply explaining and structuring how it works, this will be the 1st step of the C.B strategy and the main reason behind this categorizing is: - to make the work of C.B & Trainings easier, organized and structured. - to prevent the conflict between Standing Committee directed Capacity Building workshops and Trainings, as each one has A specific INTERNAL OPERATING GUIDELINES. * The main capacity building Structure will be as follows: 1- IFMSA Trainings 2- Standing Committee Directed Capacity Building 3- Capacity Building Events Alaa for IFMSA VP.CB 2016/17
MedSIN-Sudan
A. IFMSA Trainings and this section will include all the Related matter to IFMSA Trainings and will be my own responsibility and the Cabinet to keep track of it and it includes: - “TNTs + TOTs + TETs” - Internal Operating Guidelines of Trainings - Training Resource Center - Trainers Database. - List of IFMSA Trainings - Evaluation System for Trainings
B. Standing Committee Directed Capacity Building and again the purpose for having this section is to make the work of IFMSA capacity building easier and this mainly will be directed to each standing committee needs instead of general soft skills and the responsibilities will fall on my shoulder along with the standing committee Directors and this include but limited to:- TMET - TNHRT - IPET & IPAS - Global & Public Health workshops - Exchanges - Any other Capacity Building workshop proposed by the SC - Trainers Database for each one them separate form IFMSA Trainings
C. Capacity Building Events All NMOs, Regions and IFMSA itself have capacity building events, cause what we do is actually capacity building. So have this defined category will allow me and my team to work properly to Insure high Quality events and this included: - Sub Regional Trainings “SRTs” - PRETs - GAs in forms of “Pre-GA workshops, Trainings within the GA itself, NMO Management sessions, T.sessions inside the SCs, …etc” - Regional Meetings “the same of the GAs will follows for the RMs” - Activities Capacity Building

5. Developing NMOs Capacity It’s Important for each NMO to know how to benefit most from IFMSA and improve it Capacity and its members and this is can only be achieved by collaboration & communication between “me + my team and NMOs” for consistent and efficient capacity building based on the NMOs needs
* My main focus with the NMOs will be as to:-
-
-
-
a. Development I will provide help to each NMO needs support to grow and develop even more through direct contact of its Training / Capacity building Director, and incase if not available the main communication should be through the president. Make sure to follow up with the NMOs that hosting capacity building events to insure good quality. Providing all necessarily resources b. Empowerment Empowering the NMOs through empowering the Trainers within the NMOs by:1. Providing opportunities for them to practice their skills, 2. Genuinely updating through the Trainings Server, Facebook group and Training Resource Center. 3. Having Trainers Meetings within the GAs, RMs for icebreaking and expand the Trainings family and most getting feedback on their work back in their respective NMOs Targeting the Regional Meeting within the GAs so as to be involved better.
6. Monitoring and Evaluation System And here it comes the most important part of all, cause to know where you stand and how far your Organization is going and which part may need development you have to evaluate what you have done till now firstly and this can only be through a very strong Evaluation and monitoring System. Going Back to the previous and last term of Training Division, which I were part of its International Team some of problems we were able to identify and yet we proposed some solutions for them, so in this term I will be very happy to implement this solutions.
Alaa for IFMSA VP.CB 2016/17
MedSIN-Sudan
a. Problems we are facing: (as proposed in TSD Proposal) - A good follow up we need a follow up plan that monitor the trainers and to keep an eye on the quality of the training sessions they are conducting. - The selection Criteria of Participants one of the main reasons for the low quality in some training sessions comes from the trainer and not from the materials or circumstances, so it must be improved. - Same Training Ideas our Training Center it’s not renewed so to allow us to serve the renewable needs of IFMSA from time to time.
b. Possible Solutions: - Credit Hour System - Training Log Book - Basic & Advanced Training sessions - Training Manuals
c. Capacity Building Events Evaluations : After each C.B Events there will be an evaluation and of course with the help of VP Activities “Before and after” - before: to insure the quality of the event - after: to keep on learning from the mistake and to improve in the next time.
7. Capacity Building & Externals Relations
IFMSA is ON OFFICIAL relations and collaborations with many NGOs & Organizations that are so professionals on this field that we can use their capacity and resources in possible ways, and of course with the help of VP Externals and Liaisons Officers we can achieve that.
