2022 StyleTank Winner

Huntsville, AL

Carol Watts

Carol started her creative journey at age 10 drawing flowers in the garden and sewing her own clothes, however creative and artistic endeavors were considered hobbies in her family, so for the next 50 years of her life were in education, training and employment in a medical career. She continued to sew and design for herself and family, publishing a few designs, taking sewing and design classes for fun. It wasn’t until she retired from her medical career that she was free to reinvent herself as a creative taking surface design classes, and enrolling and completing a Certificate in Parsons Fashion Industry Essentials. It was the she realized that her interest is not to become a high fashion designer, but to be a low key nature inspired designer and teaching using local cottons and fair wage cottage productions. ABOUT HER COLLECTION Her 2022 StyleTank Capsule collection is a Spring Nature Color Palette of nudes, greens, and browns. The garment is low key basic, comfortable, monochrome women’s Daywear with over-garments and embellishments in artsy botanicals adding joy and whimsy to everyday wear. Photos by Vic Vergara

The winner was chosen based on marketability of design, design construction, fabric/style match, functionality, and overall model runway presentation and designer’s verbal presentation.

International Designer and Fine Artist

Willette Battle Huntsville, AL

issuu.com/alabamafashionalliance | March 2022 StyleTank

Willette’s StyleTank capsule collection has a theme of elegant entertaining. She states that in her culture (the black culture) celebrating the common is rarely commonly done! She also states that her culture tends to add something “extra” to the experience, (i.e. White Party, Family Reunion, HBCU Homecoming , etc). This collection was designed to celebrate one of those moments. The collection made it debut at the StyleTank 2022 Competition on March 4 at the Huntsville Dream Center, during Fashion Week Alabama.
