MESSAGE FROM JEANNINE
not buzz with members taking CPE and our local meetings across the state are limited. I look forward to when we can bring back so many of the ways we interacted in a personal and fun way outside of the digital world!
A year ago, this message was written from home, distanced from my team, and with uncertainty about the next time we would all get to gather. In our online meetings, the buzzword was “pivot” and we were all learning how to do it on multiple fronts— continuously. Thankfully, we did not make a full 360, but instead found new and better avenues to stay connected to you over this last year that we do not plan to, and cannot yet, fully let go of as the world begins to open up again.
Until then, we are excited for another virtual Annual Business Meeting on Tuesday, June 15, to recognize and celebrate leaders who guided us through the global pandemic, welcome incoming board members, and hear from two of our top AICPA and ASCPA leaders on what to expect in the coming year. We want to see you during in our live-streamed conferences and workshops! We are taking advantage of partnering with other state CPA societies to bring in speakers that we have not been able to host in the past for our traditional conferences (like the Technology Conference and Financial A&A Conference) and our new Business & Industry “pop-ups” that will happen throughout the summer! website. Our team is here for you if you have any questions about the process and are happy to help you make sure everything is seamless! We are grateful to continue to offer the latest regulatory resources and guidance with the help of members like Bruce Ely and his team at Bradley Law, and Karen Miller and her PhD students from the University of Alabama. Although printed pieces are absent from this issue, we still share the latest updates from them and their teams on www.ascpa. org/news. You can look forward to the latest federal and state tax updates from them in our next issue! Finally, I am grateful for the outpouring of support and devotion to the CPA profession that I have seen over this trying year. Your membership allows us to provide all the resources, courses, and opportunities that you have seen through 2020 and into this year. I cannot wait to thank you in-person, but in the meantime, you can always reach me at jbirmingham@ascpa.org with questions and ideas that will enhance our reach within the community of Alabama CPAs.
