GOTTA GO CULLECT COLT – half in 56.2 at Video Trials
Gotta Xcellerate (Gotta Go Cullect - Artistic Lass by Artiscape) – Fastest 2yo at Video Trials
“This Gotta Go Cullect colt has impeccable manners. He has excellent gait with high speed and can also stay. “He is the first and only Gotta Go Cullect I’ve had and I wish I had more. “He ran a 56.2 half at Ashburton at my ready to run on the 2 Nov 12 on a gusty day. He was the fastest of all the two-year-olds to trial.” – trainer, Greg Payne ¾
Tremendous training reports like the one above indicate that Gotta Go Cullect is well on his way towards vindicating the wonderful support breeders have shown him.
¾
Amazingly, since he’s been at stud Gotta Go Cullect has served more mares than all the other sons of Christian Cullen added together.

The other top trainers impressed with the Gotta Go Cullect two-year-olds include Mark Jones, Dave McGowan, Ken Barron, Gareth Dixon and Colin de Filippi. We are genuinely excited about what the future holds for Gotta Go Cullect.
Something well worth considering … Real Desire served 212 mares in New Zealand last season. A tremendous sire of two-year-olds he sired three individual Group 1 winning two-year-olds (Cowgirls N Indians, Lets Elope and Secret Desire) in his first crop. Why was he a bit quieter on our tracks last season? – after not shuttling in 2008, Real Desire didn’t have any two-year-olds last season. His second crop will race as two-year-olds in NZ this season. This prospect plus the impact of continuous crops and the commercial attractiveness of being part of a smaller crop following a big crop – makes breeding to Real Desire this season an excellent option.
BIG JIM Closing Fast – Just Like He Did On The Track
Thank You To Our Gold Supporters If you’re an Alabar Gold Supporter, you will have already received our “gold” letter earlier this season. We respect and appreciate loyalty and are proud of our record of rewarding it. The good news is that it’s not too late to take advantage of this year’s offer. As a reminder, here’s the Gold Supporter reward for this season:
- $1,000 (plus GST) extra discount off services to GRINFROMEARTOEAR - $1,000 (plus GST) extra discount off services to ELSU - $500 (plus GST) extra discount off services to GREAT SUCCESS - The offer applies to any number of mares. - The offer is in addition to our standard discounts for multiple bookings. Jim Carr, the owner of Big Jim wants us to breed no more than 160 mares to his pride and joy. With Big Jim already having nearly 70 mares in Australia, the 160 mare limit is looming close. As a stunning individual who retired as the fastest two-year-old in the history of harness racing – and not only by Western Ideal but also from the same dams family as Western Ideal (the family also of Art Major, American Ideal and the new glamour horse, Captain Treacherous) – Big Jim is one the most exciting prospects we’ve ever been involved with. How good is Big Jim’s pedigree? - a Somebeachsomewhere colt out of his half sister sold for $350,000 at Harrisburg this week. He is surely a great option for commercial breeders.
- If you already hold a booking to one of these stallions for this season, the service fee payable will now be adjusted to give you the benefit of this offer. - The offer is also applicable to breeders wishing to take advantage of our Pay On Live Foal option. The conditions are: • •
• • •
The offer is open to Alabar Gold Supporters only. The offer can only be used on services to the stallions named above in the 2012/13 season. It cannot be carried forward. The offer can only be used in NZ and cannot be transferred to another stallion. The usual free return / live foal guarantee applies. The offer cannot be transferred to another owner and separate owners cannot combine their credits.
We really hope you can take advantage of this offer. Many thanks for your continued support.
A Magnificent Alabar Kaikoura Cup Day All Star Man (by Real Desire) showed his class in storming home his last half in 57 seconds to win easily. A 4yo, All Star Man is from Real Desire’s only NZ crop to race. His second crop will race as 2yo’s this season.
Iwannabebig (by Grinfromeartoear) was a smart new winner in his first start as a 3yo. Kaikoura is a great hunting ground for Grinfromeatoear with his son Smiling Shard winning the previous two Cups.
Sushi Sushi smashed the track record in winning the Gr.2 Alabar Kaikoura Cup. He headed in an Art Major quinella and an Alabar trifecta with Major Mark second and Fly Like An Eagle (by Mach Three) third.
The quality 3yo Sir Tosti Mach (by Mach Three) was the class horse of his field and so it proved to be. This was Mach Three’s 10th individual 3yo winner in NZ for the season.
Grinfromeartoear produced a siring double for the day with Smiling Star impressively winning the last. This was Smiling Star’s first start back from a long spell and his 4th win in 6 starts. He has a great future.
ART OFFICIAL He’s Leaving Outstanding Types
Booking Updates
As the only horse ever to beat Somebeachsomewhere and the only horse ever in win in sub 1:48 as both a three and four-year-old, Art Official was always going to catch the attention of yearling buyers.
Art Major, Courage Under Fire and Mach Three are all full and closed for this season – thank you very much for your support.
His first yearlings sold at Lexington, Kentucky in September – and sell they did. His first two yearlings to sell were a colt for $140,000 and a filly for $60,000. The $140,000 colt (pictured below) is being prepped by high-profile trainer Tony Alagna – and he has nothing but praise for the Art Official son.
In a tough market, we are also extremely pleased with the books to our new stallion, Big Jim and our two stallions that have their first two-year-olds set to race this season, Gotta Go Cullect and Santanna Blue Chip.
Tony has volunteered to send photos of the colt in the sulky in a couple of weeks. As soon as these arrive we’ll post them on our website and forward them in our enews. In NZ and Australia, Art Official’s first progeny are yearlings this season. They are strong, athletic types of good size – very much with the Art Major stamp of quality about them. A $2 million earning champion racehorse, bred on the Art Major / Falcon Seelster cross, leaving tremendous types and creating a real stir in North America with his first crop – there is no doubt Art Official is an outstanding option for breeders.
Santanna Blue Chip looks like serving double the number of mares he did in NZ last season – a sure sign his two-year-olds are making all the right moves. With our other stallions, we are prepared to do our best to meet the market – particularly if you have supported Alabar in the past.
Art Official bred 135 mares in Pennsylvania in his first season at stud in North America. He not only had the numbers but he also received the quality as well.
We can’t get too carried away but we’ll still negotiate a bit on the service fees (or payment terms) in order to get them a few extra mares.
See The Art, the $140,000 colt mentioned above, is out of the Western Hanover mare See And Be Seen who ranks as a full sister to the former US Pacer of the Year and now sales-topping sire, Well Said.
Also, remember there is the Pay On Live Foal option available if this suits you better.

What’s more, if you’re an Alabar Gold Supporter you qualify for an extra reward on three of the stallions we own ourselves – Elsu, Great Success and Grinfromeartoear (details inside). Please give us a call. We’ll do our best to meet your requirements – many thanks
