Philosophy 7

As of late, I am developing an interest with regards to how built structures have the ability to positively enhance human life. I believe architecture has a correlation with how we interact with inanimate objects, that far exceeds the reaches of aesthetic beauty. Space and area strenghten the appeal to emotion and manipulate moods either positively or negatively. I persue studies while always carrying this philosophy with me, using it as a tool to help guide design decisions along my journey as an architect.

8 Centre de Developpement de la Petite Enfance Project/ Design

Centre de Developpement de la Petite Enfance Copper Cliff, ON Term 3A: Design Studio Year Completed: 2018 Photoshop, Illustrator, Rhinoceros 3D, Vray A metaphorical design project. An Early Childhood Development Centre created for the town of Copper Cliff, located in the town’s only park. Based on the principles of Ecological Education, I believe it is imperative to study how built forms, when designed correctly, can positively enhance human life.

14 Built From the Earth Project/ Design

Built From the Earth Island of Paradise Term 3A: Architectural Communications Year Completed: 2018 Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Rhinoceros 3D A metaphorical project evaluating our ability to convey a story through achitectural methods of representation. Our assignment consisted of reading a novel, then desining a space based on the main themes of that novel. After having read Joseph Rykwert’s, “On Adam’s House in Paradise”, I decided to create Adam’s house based on what I believe might resemble the ideal house in paradise. This fictional project really tested our imagination and ability to use architecture as a playful tool. This project also demanded we create our own book based on the drawings we ended up creating. Here is my interpretation of Adam’s House in Paradie, presented through a few of the drawings I’ve created.

Oshkaybewis - Ecological Teaching Lodge Copper Cliff, ON Term 3A: Indigenous Precedents Year Completed: 2018 Photoshop, Illustrator, Rhinoceros 3D,Vray An addition to the Early Childhood Education Centre, the Ecological Teaching Lodge provides a location for children to be educated on the subject of ecology in order to develop a better understanding of what it is, to truly co-exhist and thrive with the natural elements that surround us. Pulling the earth’s surface upward, in order to explore it’s properties.

Ecology Centre Sudbury Project/ Design

Ecology Centre Sudbury Design Sudbury, ON Term 2B :Design Studio Year Completed: 2017 Illustrator, Rhinoceros 3D As an amalgamation of my Design Studio and Ecology & Architecture classes, I decided to elaborate on the idea of creating an Ecology Centre, as I felt the need for this type of Structure in Northern Ontario’s central hub, Sudbury.

Le Renard - Canoe Construction Sudbury, ON Term 2A :Design Studio Year Completed: 2017 Numerous Utilities of Cedar, Birch and Spruce wood With the guidance of Elder Marcel Labelle we were able to build not one, but two birch bark canoes. This building process not only educated us on traditonal building and connection techniques, but also educated us about ourselves and our relation to the land we know as Canada

Abstract Representation My Canoe Building Journey

Along the process of our canoe building journey we were required to track our progress in a notebook. At the end of the building process we visually represent our journey.

Le Renard Canoe Constrcution 35 Design/ Built

The Canoe Construction was accompanied by the making of a paddle. Using a spokeshave, sandpaper and numerous powertools I was able to carve not one, but two distinct paddles. The paddle on the right was my first attempt at this type of project. The Paddle on the left was assembled during the summer of 2018 as a personal project.

36 Les Thrones de Glace Design/ Built

Les Thrones de Glace Ramsey Lake, Sudbury, ON Term 1A: Design Studio Year Completed: 2016 2X2 Lumber The project’s initial purpose focused on it’s ability to change locations throughout the ice-hut installations on Ramsey Lake. The structure was composed of six individual chairs that had a trapezoid base in order to be moved around and conjoined to make a semi-circle if desired. As inorganic as the project appears, its program aimed to incorporate the structure into nature, not as an installation, but as a correspondence to its surrounding and it’s interaction with the people who made use of it.

Les Guichets Tombé Copper Cliff, ON Term 3A: Design Studio Year Completed: 2018 2X2 Lumber, 2X6 Lumber, 4’X6’ Plywood, Multicolored tool Using lively colours and organic shapes our installation revolved around the theme of interactivness. Visitors could walk around, walk through and even take a seat on one of the benches our installation created. The tool used to provide colour danced in the wind and mitigated the light causing a beautiful intersection between light and colour. In addition, after being displayed the installation was chosen to be permanently displayed at a local school here in Sudbury.

46 Welcome to Copper Cliff Graphic Design/

Welcome to Copper Cliff Copper Cliff, ON Term 3A :Design Studio Year Completed: 2018 Photoshop, Illustrator, ArcGIS This project graphically articulates our relationship and experience to the land, while exploring the many neighborhoods in Copper Cliff. Viewing the poster in Landscape we can observe the occupants view on Copper Cliff’s park. Viewing it in portrait, we can observe my study of Copper Cliff’s little Italy . The reasoning behind dividing these two locations on my poster was to described the correlation between these two places. Like in reality they are both present within the same border, but saldy their relation is divided by an imaginary line.

Ecology Centre Sudbury Sudbury, ON Term 2A: Architecture and Ecology Year Completed: 2017 Illustrator, Rhinoeros 3D, ArcGIS Our assignment was to research an ecological method that could be used to improve Sudbury’s current state. I believe Sudbury as a whole, is in need of ecological eduction to gain abetter knowledge on how to properly co-exist with the natural elements present in Sudbury. Ecological Imaginative Education introduces a new way of learning about ecology, by integrating nature as one of the tools used in the educational field.

Connectivity Flour Mill, Sudbury, ON Term 3A :The Well- Tempered Environment Year Completed: 2018 Illustrator, Hand-Sketch, Photoshop, ArcGIS A metaphorical project intended to revitalize one of Sudbury’s oldest neighborhood’s, known as the Flour Mill. Using strategies learnt during our Well-Tempered Environment course, we proposed possible mitigation strategies that could be imposed on St-Georges street. These posters are graphic representations that articulate the changes our group proposed. The posters were later published during an open house at Sacre-Coeur church on Kathleen street, where citizens were invited to come discuss with our entire class and observe the proposed changes.
