Edosomwan Leadership Institute was established with an initial grant from Johnson A Edosomwan, a University of Miami alumnus who wanted to give back to the university and community that helped guide him to great success. The University has supplemented Edosomwan’s generous gift with operational and marketing funds. As a renowned pioneer in continuous performance improvement, Edosomwan is the author of more than 325 papers and 66 books as well as the recipient of 175 awards, honors, citations, fellowships and commendations. He holds more than 16 certifications in several academic disciplines and the following degrees: BSIE and MSIE, University of Miami; PEngr, Columbia University; and Doctorate of Science in Engineering Management/Economics, George Washington University. Richard D. Fain
Chairman and CEO Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Richard D. Fain serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (NYSE: RCL). More than five million guests sail each year aboard the company’s cruise lines. RCL owns and operates Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises and is part of joint ventures that operate Pullmantur and TUI Cruises. The company’s 49 ships sail to nearly 500 ports on all seven continents. Fain became the cruise line company’s chairman and CEO in 1988, and has guided its growth to its current place on the S&P 500, as well as its listing by the Ethisphere Institute as a 2016 World’s Most Ethical Company. Fain is chair of the University of Miami Board of Trustees, and serves on the board of the Posse Foundation and the executive committee of the World Travel and Tourism Council. He has been recognized with the Federal Maritime Commission’s Earth Day Award, the Travel Weekly Lifetime Achievement Award, the South Florida Business Journal Ultimate CEO Award, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and membership in the South Florida Business Hall of Fame. The French government honored Fain as a Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur, while the Finnish government named him a Commander, First Class, of the Order of the Lion. Fain holds a B.S. degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Fain and his wife, Colleen, have four children and six gorgeous grandchildren.
John A. Quelch Since 2017, Professor John A. Quelch has served as Vice Provost of the University of Miami and Dean of Miami Business School.He was formerly the Charles Edward Wilson Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School and Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.Professor Quelch is the first person to be Dean of three leading business schools on three continents. He served as Dean of the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai and Beijing; as Dean of London Business School in the United Kingdom; and as Senior Associate Dean of Harvard Business School. At CEIBS, he raised the school’s MBA Financial Times ranking to number 15 in the world. At London Business School, he raised the global ranking to number 8.Professor Quelch is the author of 25 books on strategic marketing, global branding and consumer-centric healthcare. He has been a director of ten publicly quoted companies including Reebok, Pepsi Bottling Group, Aramark and WPP, the world’s largest marketing services company. He has given speeches and seminars in more than 50 countries and has consulted to many multinationals including Sinopec and Tencent. He is senior strategy advisor to JD.com.Professor Quelch earned degrees from Oxford University, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard Business School and Harvard School of Public Health.
Sheryl L. Alonso
Academic Director, The Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institue and Lecturer, Management, University of Miami School of Business Administration Dr. Alonso is a Lecturer in the School of Business at the 18 years. She teaches Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, Leading Teams, and Leadership at the undergraduate and graduate level and in Executive Development. Dr. Alonso began her career as a nurse, earning a BSN from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois and later an MBA from the University of Miami. She completed a Ph.D. in Medical Leadership at the University of Miami. Dr. Alonso draws on extensive experience at the executive level, having served as a hospital Vice President for many years at Mercy Hospital in Miami and in leadership positions at Loyola University in Chicago prior to teaching in the School of Business. Dr. Alonso has been a speaker and organizer of programs and events at the local and national level. Dr. Alonso is the Academic Director of The Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institute in the School of Business at the University of Miami. She has been the recipient of many awards including the Excellence in Teaching Award for Undergraduate Business Programs, Research Mentor of the Year Award, Outstanding Reviewer Award from the Academy of Management, and has been recognized for Athletics Academics. Dr. Alonso welcomes the opportunity to advise and guide students in reaching their goals. She is active in a variety of management, civic and not-for-profit organizations and served on several boards including the Board for Girl Scouts USA and the March of Dimes Nurse/Doctor of the Year. She has developed and executed numerous programs for executives and physicians: the Florida Medical Association, Merck, Astra Zeneca, and Johnson and Johnson to name a few.
