The wonderful world of benches

Sustainability is incorporated into all our core values at Alexander Rose. An example of our commitment can be seen on the tick tree logo found on all our wooden furniture, as awarded by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council.) They’re an international non-profit and their small but mighty symbol represents the responsible forestry behind every piece of our garden furniture within our beautiful timber range.

For our wooden products to carry the FSC label, the forests from which we source our timber must meet stringent criteria, including compliance with all applicable laws & regulations, the well-being of all workers, rights of ownership for all indigenous people and the commitment to restoration of ecosystem services.

We source sustainable materials and work with factories that demonstrate fair and appropriate employee conditions. Wherever possible, the waste generated from our production process is recycled and our products aren’t unnecessarily over packaged.

It’s important for us that we prioritise our environmental and ethical responsibilities, both now and for the future and, for us, being FSC certified is one part of that ongoing commitment.

Royal Park

Our Royal Park bench range is made from the finest, most durable timbers - Roble, which has a beautiful honey-colour and natural tones. We also have a 5ft Royal Park bench in Teak from Brazil. Teak is equally as durable as Roble and has a mellow orange colour with an enhanced grain. The pre-built bench design is chunky, sturdy and inviting for a long chat with a friend. We have 3, 4, 5 and 6 seater options.

Roble and Teak doesn’t require treatment and will still have an expected lifespan of 25 years without it. If left to age naturally, your bench will slowly turn a beautiful silvery-grey colour. Or, if you’re keen to preserve the colour, it can be treated with the Alexander Rose Timber Protector. Follow with Timber Shield to create a protective barrier against water and moisture.

Broadfield

Over 20 years ago we had a vision to bring quality, affordable garden furniture to the UK market and the Broadfield bench fitted the bill! It perfectly embodies everything that we still incorporate into our designs to this day - ultimate comfort, classic styles and a quality finish. So it’s no wonder that these are our best selling benches!

The chairs and benches in this range all have a curved and elegantly slatted back, which fit to the shape of your back for ultimate comfort.

We pioneered the design all that time ago, and it’s now a common design feature in best-selling garden furniture around the globe.

Our Turnberry benches come in a choice of 5 finishes, whether you prefer a honey coloured wood, a darker, richer wood, or freshly painted for a more modern finish, we’re sure you’ll find the perfect one for you.

Our St. George benches perfectly embody everything that we incorporate into our designs - ultimate comfort, classic styles and a quality finish. They’re very similar to the benches in our Broadfield range, only with much thicker timber, for those who prefer a chunkier style.

They all have a curved and elegantly slatted back, which fit to the shape of your body for ultimate comfort. We pioneered the curved back design when we first started up and it’s now a common design feature in best-selling garden furniture around the globe.

We have 4ft, 5ft and 6ft versions, perfect for between 2-4 people, to sit, natter and relax.

Tivoli

Our Scandinavian-inspired Tivoli range is all about precise angles and elegant slats.

Roble wood is typically used in more traditional styles which is why this range is so unique. The elegant frames are sleek and contemporary, yet still equally strong and durable. The colour of the wood is both warm and natural, with a beautiful, visible grain.

And after a perfect day entertaining friends on your new Tivoli garden bench, you can sleep with a clear conscious too, because the whole collection is FSC 100% certified, awarded by The Forest Stewardship Council - an independent non-profit organisation who assure that the forests from which the timber originates meets the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.

Sherwood

Our Sherwood range is perfect for those looking for traditional style garden furniture, with a slight modern twist to keep it current and unique. All products within the range are made from the wonderfully versatile and durable Acacia hardwood and are painted in 3 wonderful shadeschestnut brown, french grey or classic white.

The chestnut and grey painted furniture within the range has a brushed and slightly textured appearance, which has been through a careful and considered process to achieve the desired look. First, we smooth down the wood, then we deliberately rough the surface of each individual piece with a wire brush to get that signature “distressed” texture and then finally, we apply the paint. It’s a true example of quality craftsmanship, combined with quality materials.

The classic Drachmann designed bench has a white painted finish and will add a touch of Scandinavian simplicity to your outdoor space.

Our Bolney range showcases beautiful, strong timber garden furniture, made from Acacia. This dense harwood is a rich brown colour, with an attractive marbled grain.

This timber is extremely durable - so you can be confident it’ll last for many years to come, even with the good old English weather. We recommend treating annually with our Timber Treatment to nourish the wood and maintain the original colour for longer.

5 Year Warranty*

The benches in our Malu range offer both quality and affordability in equal measures. It’s classic, familiar and functional.

This range is known for its practicality, and spacesaving designs. The benches are made from Pine which has been sourced from responsibly managed forests in Eastern Europe. The Pine has been treated to make it suitable for outdoor use, all year round. In time, these products will turn an ashy silver / grey. We recommend applying a softwood preserver annually.

Trak is our new indoor furniture collection, intricately designed and expertly engineered from FSC 100% certified quality White Washed European Oak.

The Trak bench will stand proud in your hallway, sit at the end of your bed or feature in your living space as an elegant coffee table. This premium product comes conveniently flat packed, and is easy to assemble.

Trak

The way the bench seat is rebated into the legs frame rails with soft curves, gives it a crafted feel, and comfort able to sit on. A versatile piece that can be used in your hallway, at the end of your bed or as a coffee table.

Add a splash of colour to your bench with our colourful scatter cushions, add a seat cushion for added comfort or use one of our breathable covers to protect your bench during the winter months.

We also offer a direct engraving service, or purchase a plaque to secure to the backrest of your bench.

If you want to secure your bench to the ground, choose from our soft ground or hard ground furniture anchors.

Finally, protect your bench from the elements using our range of timber treatments.

Over time, as part of the natural weathering process, cracks and splits will appear in the wood, particularly on the end grain and to a lesser extent on the surface. The drier the wood, the more cracks will appear due to the evaporation of natural oils and minerals from exposure to the elements. As with most hardwoods, this is a normal characteristic for any timber which remains outdoors. Our timber furniture is designed with this in mind and its strength and durability will remain unaffected.

Wooden furniture can be treated with our specially formulated care products to give a beautiful rich finish and enhance the look of the wood.

Bench Engravings

Alexander Rose offers an engraving service with three options: brass plaque, stainless steel plaque and direct engravings onto our furniture. Our brass plaque offers a more traditional look for your inscription. Stainless steel plaques provide a more contemporary look with a silver shine, and they will not rust.

If you are looking for something unique we offer a direct engraving service. Your inscription is carved directly into the timber by a computer-aided engraving machine. A direct engraving will mellow down along with the bench to a silver/grey finish if left untreated.

Furniture Anchors

We have designed two types of anchors for different surfaces, the most common being lawns. Using an Alexander Rose soft ground anchor kit avoids the need for concrete. Installation is quick and easy without any mess.

Our soft ground anchors come with solid brass plates that screw onto the outside legs. These have sleeves to allow the anchors to pass through and penetrate the surface. When an anchor approaches its maximum depth (500mm) a curved fluke is released to grip the bench further into the surface, adding more security. Our hard ground anchors are designed to be used with concrete. They have a maximum depth of 110mm and require a 20mm masonary drill bit to install them.
