What is Nanotechnology?

Nanotechnology refers to a field of a pplied science whose theme is the control of matter on an atomic and m olecular scale. Generally nanotechnology is approximately 100 nanometers or smaller and involves developing materials or devices within that size. One nanometer (nm) is one billionth, or 109 of a meter.

To put that scale into context, the comparative size of a nanometer to a meter is the same as that of a football to the size of the earth. Or another way of putting it: A nanoparticle is really, really small. And Nanoparticles can help to protect surfaces in a better way.

About teak & hardwood care

Weathering of teak & hardwood

Teak is a tropical hardwood with a beautiful golden-brown colour when it is new. Over time, as natural teak is exposed to the elements, it gradually changes colour from the honey colour of new teak to a silver-grey patina which distinguishes finely aged, outdoor teak. After a while this silver-grey patina deteriorates to a dark-grey and greenish look if it remains untreated.

Depending on the environment, natural greying and/or weathering may become noticeable after only a few weeks. In drier climates teak will take several months to weather.

If teak is exposed to infrequent moisture, the colour will fade slowly with minor discolourisation. In moist climates, where furniture is subjected to regular dew and sunshine, teak & hardwood outdoor furniture will weather more quickly.

Teak is again a trend in outdoor furniture, but now in another way: Teak tables have to match wicker chairs and fabric seatings. These wicker chairs often have a natural look (sand/clay/stone) with different colour shades within one fiber: white, beige, grey, taupe and brown.

What to do with very severe mould and mildew stains?

When fabrics are heavily weathered for a couple of years in a humid outdoor environment, severe mould and mildew stains might become visible. These heavy stains will not always be completely removed by a Fabric & Upholstery Cleaner.

What to do then?

Simple. Take a bucket and just mix our Fabric Cleaner with Household Bleach in a ratio 1:1. And then repeat the cleaning process as described in the Fabric Cleaner instructions at the back of the bottle.
