Experiment DP2.0 Briefing: The client requested a large family home that could gather the family through time. Visual connectivity among the spaces and natural light are significant for the client. However, the spatial quality requested is intimate and cozy; there was no desire for boundless living spaces. The highlight of the brief is the serious request of a unique architecture that challenges its context and a thrilling interior experience.
Location & site: The land is located in Hufof city in Alhasa, Saudi Arabia. It is bordered with residential neighbors from all the sides except from the east; it faces an intermediate boys school that is planned to be built. The 987.5m2 property is bordered with a 20m street from the south, a 15m street in the east, and a 15m street from the north Year: 2020

Experiment DP1.2 Briefing: The brief of this project is to design a home for a small family (4 members). The client insisted on building half of the land only and leaving the rest to be a large garden. This large garden is desired to be a shared space between the client and his father in law (the next neighbor). While it is a garden, in the far future this half could be built as a small home for the client's son.
Solution: The solution must respond to two scenarios; the present, and the far future. Thus, we are proposing the idea of building a "complete-half home" for the first phase. For the future phase, a mirrored unit could be built. We are experimenting with the mass of the building so it could transform into a two mirrored homes with a private courtyard in the middle.
Location & site: The land is located in Azizyah, Alkhobar, Saudi Arabia. The 500m2 land is bordered with 20-m-street in the south and neighbors from the other sides (father in law house from the west)

Experiment DP1.2 Briefing:
The developer is requesting a design of
high-end douplex units. Practicality, natural light, and privacy are significant to this brief. The design must fullfil the contemporary needs by young Saudi families since they are the targetted clients of the develope. Solution:
For this project, we proposed to devide the land into 6 units (14X35). This proportion will attract more clients; in addition, it will widen the targetted spectrum since it will include clients from Saudi Aramco (Aramco does not loan its employees for lands that are 12m wide or less) and this audience is significant in the location of the site.
In architectural means, the units were designed to be aggregated and form a private garden for each unit. Along with a semi-couryard. In addition, offering open spaces with visual connectivity through the floors. Location & site: The 2940m2 land is located in Hufuf, Alhasa, Saudi Arabia. Close to King Faisal Universoty and Aramco facilities and the downtown.

Experiment DP 3.1 Briefing: The client is a family of 5. They are requesting intimate spaces with strong emphasis on privacy. Out door experience is important but it has to maintain privacy. For the client, experimenting with ideas and experiences is welcome as long as privacy and program are met.
Solution: Since the land is bordered with a 12m street from the south and neighbors all around, the concept of the courtyard is considered. However, the application of the concept differs. We started designing the mass of the house in response to sunlight and air breeze. Then, coordinating the mass with the logical zoning. Portion of the First floor is lifted; allowing for air circulation and forming a private courtyard. Alignment and views among the spaces are maximized but tuned to the adequate need.
Location & site: The 500m2 land is located in Hufuf, Alhasa, Saudi Arabia. Facing a 12m street in the north and neighbors from the remaining sides.

Experiment DP 3.2 Briefing: Designing a house for a small family, where a small open kitchen opens to the living area. Different sitting areas are important for the client in the ground level. Landscaping and outdoor experience are significant for the lifestyle.
Solution: Making oppurtunities from the requirements. By placing the accesses of the house in the sides (family and guest), the ground floor opens up and occupies a long portion of the land. Thus, opening the living space to the outdoor and providing different sidding spaces will produce a dynamic living area. Harnessing sunlight while maintaining privacy is highly considered in this project.
Location & site: The 550m2 land is located in Aljafir, Alhasa, Saudi Arabia. Facing a 12m street in the north west and neighbors from the remaining sides.

Wrong Form, Right Typology Year: 2018 Instructor: Zaid Kashef Alghata
Abstract 'The principal conditions for the invention of object and environments do not necessarily have to include a unitary statement of fit between form and use.' - Anthony Vilder. Typology in architecture, the identification of essential types of building or element, is primarily a practice of ordering. Matrixes of plan compositions, column capitals, houses, civic functions of different kinds, from the 19th century onwards. The interest of reading these now is the way in which they define a recognizable but foreign vocabulary of possible implementations. You recognize the function/program before delving into the details, certain-nesses are applied, this is a house because of its houseness. The history of the high-rise is a very recent one, yet architects seem to have been trapped into the notion of what a tower is, often limited to a square extrusion with a central core. In this workshop we took on different precedents and through diagrammatic analysis apply this knowledge into a tower. The attempt will be to create a tower with the least tower-ness possible yet maintaining functions such as circulation and occupation. After the experimentation phase, we will generate architectural drawings of the none architecturally typical objects.
TRACING THE SYSTEM Tracing the system exposes the technique the architect used in order to compose the plan. In this case, extending and filleting lines. This technique will be adopted for this project. SHELIETTE Extracting a sheliette from the traced system.

ART PRISON Young Architects Competition
Year: Team:
2017 Yasar Al Ali Yazeed Al Amasi
The fortress of Santa Caterina stands over the peak of Favignana, an isle set at the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. For more than a century, the fortress has been an abandoned prison. The goal is to transform an ancient prison into a treasure chest containing works of art and the creative action of internationally renowned artists and intellectuals. Our approach for this competition focuses on reflecting the spirit of art through dynamic interaction with the fortress. It starts with two lines that keep the continuity of the pathway leading to the fortress. These two lines revolve around the fortress. They thicken and move to inhabit spaces. They do not intervene the fortress but they interact with it. A line rises from the fortress' window in order to maintain views. A line bridges functions in order to create continuity of functions. Although aesthetics differ, functions keep the two elements (lines and fortress) together.
AM B IENT contemporary art gallery
course: A RC408 Graduation project Year: 2017 Critic: Dr.Mohammed Zami Mr.Ziad Ashour
AMBIENT is a proposal of a contemporary art gallery in Alkhobar, Saudi Arabia. The gallery is concerned with serving the public and supporting local artists via providing them with a platform to display and produce their work. The project is also directed to impersonate the Saudi art scene through the language of architecture. The way the building contradicts the site, and the way the building contradicts itself were crucial to this project. Several architectural moments and experiences were taken in consideration to manifest the power of architecture. This project was directed to provoke the context in order to encourage a bolder kind of architecture in the area.

Form Logic The behaviour of the form is planned to represent Saudi contemporary art through its architecture. This is an analysis of Saudi contemporary art. Breaking down its influences and the way it expresses its ideas. The result is that Saudi contemporary art is: political, progressive, reflects local culture. The common feature is that all elements are presented via shock and contrast.

The sketches below show the stage where concepts are being transforment into space. How should the galleries look like? should they differ in form? how can they work together? what kind of atmosphere is in the building? what is the experience? what is the relation with the ground? Are all questions driving this stage.

This studio emphasizes the comprehensive nature of architectural design. Students utilizes a compressive design approach that addresses and integrates various architectural and urban issues as related to the context. Swaikit is the oldest commercial market in Alkhobar, Saudi Arabia. It is a major attraction for people in the country as well as the arabian gulf. The site consists of 36 blocks divided to 4 groups. Our group took the 14 blocks in the south. We approached the case through conducting analysis then diagnosing the issues. Our intervention was to renew the area and enhancing its quality while preserving the valuable buildings and giving priority to pedestrians. 1) ANALYSIS 1.1 site & accessibility

In this experimental design studio, students are asked to develop a technique to approach the design. The technique has to be applied to the three main spaces of the program: commercial, dorms, and academic. While experimenting with the technique, we will discover variety of special opportunities and effects. The exploration of theses masses is conducted through cutting different sections in order to explore the interiority. The technique used in this project is three figures in a container. The three zones of the program will be integrated in a container. Each zone has its distinct geometry that will reflect in the interior. The space between the figures and the container creates transitional zones. The container acts as the envelope of the building. The design process started with the technique. Then, mass configuration, followed by cutting sections and working on the interiority. Finally, treating the envelope.
PROGRAM
TECHNIQUE
The technique is the formal methodology used in order to make a connection among the masses. In this project, the technique used is «container/contained» spatial relationship. It is about taking the main three masses (academic, housing, commercial) into a fourth mass (the container). The container will act as interstitial space and will introduce the building in the front. Finally, the whole mass will be integrated with the ground
