VIKING LONGSHIPS
LEADING THE WAY IN EUROPEAN RIVER EXPLORATION
Dear Traveler,
When we founded Viking with four river vessels in 1997, we had a vision that travel could be more destination focused and culturally immersive. We wanted to offer experiences designed for the thinking person—for curious travelers. Our mission at the time is the same as it is today: “Exploring the world in comfort.”
Now, as we begin our 25th year, we have developed into a company that operates 75 river vessels, six ocean ships, and soon, two expedition vessels. We are also very proud that Viking was named the #1 River Cruise Line and the #1 Ocean Cruise Line by Condé Nast Traveler in the publication’s 2021 Readers’ Choice Awards.
In the following pages, I am pleased to showcase our innovative Viking Longships, which comprise the vast majority of our purpose-built European river fleet. Viewed as symbols of The Viking Age, the Viking longships were recognized, respected and imitated around the world. Working with expert nautical and interior architects, we drew inspiration from the original longships in designing these elegant, state-of-the-art vessels.
Hosting a maximum of 190 guests, Viking Longships provide an intimate environment for exploration— with all the amenities of an elegant boutique hotel, including an unparalleled choice of all outside staterooms, expansive views from floor-to-ceiling windows and al fresco dining. Stepping on board, you will immediately notice the bright, light-filled public areas and our signature Scandinavian design. In your spacious stateroom, thoughtful attention to detail greets you with luxury bed linens and a heated bathroom floor. Throughout your journey, you will enjoy the ever-changing views from comfortable seating areas in the Lounge and Sun Deck and on our revolutionary Aquavit Terrace at the bow.
Since their debut, Viking Longships have garnered an unprecedented number of awards and accolades. Hopefully you will be inspired by these innovative river vessels and the voyages they sail throughout Europe. Regardless of what destinations pique your curiosity, I encourage you to reserve now for our 2023 departures. With the Viking Health & Safety Program in place, you can explore the world in comfort—and with great confidence.
Thank you for your interest in Viking; we look forward to welcoming you on board.

PURPOSE-BUILT SHIPS
Engineered to bring you closer to your destination
At Viking, we build innovative ships that are the right size for the experience. In Europe, vessels that sail from Amsterdam to Budapest must fit under many bridges and into many locks and canals. For this reason, river ships cannot be designed to exceed a certain size. Working in partnership with legendary naval architects Yran & Storbraaten and the internationally acclaimed architectural design firm, Rottet Studio, we created a design for the Viking Longships that is now patented. Showcasing state-of-the-art engineering, these elegant vessels sail the Rhine, Danube and Rhône Rivers. In recent years, we have also proudly introduced Viking Longships that are purpose-built and specifically sized to navigate the Douro, Elbe and Seine Rivers.
A NEW STANDARD DEFINED
Elegant sister ships that stand apart from the competition
Prior to the introduction of the Viking Longships, many of the vessels sailing Europe’s waterways were outdated, cramped and lacking hotel amenities. The launch of our sleek new vessels ushered in a new era of modern river voyages. Viking Longships provide unprecedented levels of comfort and a signature Scandinavian design that never upstages the destination. Key features that are different from other river vessels include:
Aquavit Terrace, a revolutionary indoor/outdoor viewing and dining platform at the bow of the ship
Two Explorer Suites at the aft of the ship, each featuring two full rooms and a private wraparound veranda with spectacular 270° views
True suites that feature two full rooms with a veranda off the living room and a French balcony in the bedroom
More full-size verandas and full-size rooms than on any other ship in Europe
Organic herb garden on the Sun Deck, harvested for onboard cuisine throughout the journey
Energy-efficient hybrid engines that reduce vibrations for a remarkably smooth ride
Since their debut, the Viking Longships have received a number of accolades and international media recognition. Our award-winning fleet is the largest in the river cruise industry, by far—and in the coming years, we will continue to welcome more new sister ships to the rivers of Europe.
UNDERSTATED ELEGANCE
Modern ships designed for comfort and discovery
Created by interior architects who have designed some of the world’s finest hotels, the signature Scandinavian design of our ships celebrates our Nordic heritage: clean lines, colorful woven textiles and light woods that evoke the original Viking explorers’ connection to the natural world. In the Lounge, guests can enjoy cocktails from a clinker-built bar inspired by the original Viking longships. Public spaces are light-filled, airy and quiet; staterooms feature thoughtful amenities like heated bathroom floors, anti-fog mirrors and luxury bed linens; and throughout each ship you will find great attention to detail in accents like leather handrails, hand-curated libraries and original Nordic artwork.
SCANDINAVIAN DESIGN DETAILS ON BOARD VIKING SHIPSA CHOICE OF STATEROOMS & SUITES
Viking Longships offer an unparalleled range of accommodations
EVEN IN AN INTIMATE ENVIRONMENT Viking Longships offer multiple categories of all outside staterooms and suites. Each of our spacious staterooms offers a comfortable home away from home—with a hotel-style bed topped with luxury linens and duvets that provides the perfect place to turn in after a full day of exploring Europe’s great towns and cities. You will also enjoy bathrooms equipped with heated floors, anti-fog mirrors and premium Freyja® bath products.
FOR AN ELEVATED EXPERIENCE, Viking Longships also offer the first-ever true suites on the rivers—each with two full-size rooms, featuring a full-size veranda in the living room and a French balcony in the bedroom. Additionally, located at the aft of the ship are our two largest suites, the Explorer Suites, which also boast a private wraparound veranda offering 270° views.
THE FLAVORS OF YOUR DESTINATION
Experiencing a culture through its food and wine
A GREAT JOY OF TRAVEL lies in sampling the fresh fare and culinary traditions for which your destination is known. Locally sourced ingredients—such as black Périgord truffles, Dutch gouda, Provençal lemons, Spanish jamón and Hungarian paprika— inspire our highly trained chefs to create authentic regional dishes on every itinerary. And our thoughtful wine list enhances your meal, with handpicked selections and onboard tastings that showcase an area’s quintessential varietals.
DINING ON A VIKING LONGSHIP, you will find the ideal setting for impeccable service and casual elegance. Choose between our main dining room, The Restaurant, and the revolutionary indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace. Across our fleet, we offer the most al fresco dining on any waterway, so you always have the option to enjoy a meal or a glass of wine while completely surrounded by the scenery.

“Viking has done everything possible to make it safe for me to come on this remarkable, remarkable journey.”
– R. FINDLEY – 2022 EXPEDITION GUEST
“Viking provided an excellent travel experience; we recommend them highly. COVID protocols were extensive and welcome. We felt much safer than at home.”
– B. & H. KUHN – 2021 RIVER GUESTS
“My husband and I knew that a Viking cruise would be our first trip once we were fully vaccinated. In fact, it may be the only way we travel for a while.”
– L. ALTER MARK, FORBES – 2021 OCEAN GUEST
“In my humble opinion, you are far safer on a Viking cruise ship than simply going into your local grocery store. Where else can you go and know that everyone is vaccinated, everyone is screened for the virus every day, and deep cleaning is happening every night?”
– D. PORTER, ROAMING BOOMERS TRAVEL SERVICE – 2021 OCEAN GUEST
“COVID procedures were easy and precise. My husband and I needed and enjoyed this pleasant break.”
– G. & S. HYLAND – 2021 RIVER GUESTS
