Bear Can Trial Period Complete
Bear cans were distributed to select residents in September as part of a grant-funded trial, in partnership with the Colorado Parks & Wildlife. The trial period of bear cans has ended. The community's input during the trial provided useful feedback to refuse operations and bear/wildlife management in the Gunnison valley.
The City will be collecting bear cans and returning the original refuse containers for pickup.

The Cassowary
Some species of cassowaries have a hard, fin-shaped helmet on their heads, called a casque. The casque is made of keratin, the substance found in its beak and claws. Scientists aren’t really sure of the casque’s purpose.
