The spirit of the holidays is about giving, not spending money. Although at times, this becomes hard to remember.

Kid Scoop News Librarian Jim Silverman has a cool way to give gifts that warm the heart and don’t cost a cent!

“Select some books from the library!” says Jim. “Wrap them up and tuck them under the tree.”

Of course, you have to return them after a couple of weeks. But by then, the books are read.

A wrapped library book provides the joy of the gift, costs no money and afterwards, you don’t have to wonder where to store it.

Number the books in alphabetical order.

It’s the Thought That Counts

It truly is the loving thought behind a gift that makes it special. And, thoughts are free!

On a piece of paper, write down a special thought for a friend or loved one. It could be lines from a poem, a famous quote, or something you write with your own words. Decorate the paper to offer a gift that will touch the heart.

The Gift of Time

Create a coupon book of chores and actions you can take to be helpful. Could you take out the trash? Wash the dishes? Sweep the floor? Make a list of helpful things you could do for someone in your family.

What is fairness?

Step up and offer to help someone. Can you help someone carrying a lot of stuff? Can you help pick up after a game? Can you pick up some trash on the playground? Can you help an older neighbor with yard work or running an errand for them?

These little actions can make a big difference in someone’s day!

them as a gift.

SUDOKU

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

PET ADOPTION

Bruno came to us this summer from a foster home where he lived with a few other dogs. We couldn’t say no to this loveabull wrinkle face! Bruno is quite the character but an all around goodest boy! He’s very dog friendly and loves his people BIG time. When he’s really excited he loves to show off his yodeling skills. He’s quite musically inclined. He loves car rides, and he’s up for any adventure! Bruno is a big barrel of love, although he has a hard time containing it sometimes. He responds very well to corrections which makes him very teachable. The recipe for a happy Bruno is excercise, scrumptious treats, and as much love as you can handle. . Did we mention he’s available for adoption?! If you want to meet Bruno reach out to ohbedogfulrescue@gmail.com

Senior

I’m Bryn and I am 3 years young and about 55 lbs. I’m absolutely beautiful and I LOVE to cuddle with my human. At night, I sleep in my dog bed but before I lay down, I walk over to my foster mom for a kiss on the nose.. What can I say? I love my humans.

I also love other dogs but do have a high prey drive so I can’t be anywhere near cats or cat sized animals. I am a little shy but I tend to bond instantly with my mom. I’m best buds with my foster dad now but it does take me a while to warm up to men. I would do best in a quiet home, ideally with just a human or two.

Lucy, and her sister, Mina were adopted from a vet in Aurora in 2008 as little kittens. We were hoping to add just one kitten to our household, but the vet gave us a great bargain (two-for-one!) Lucy and Mina were named after the two best friends in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. With cats being up all night, it seemed appropriate.

In the 16 years that we have had Lucy, she has moved many times, and lived in all sorts of interesting places; cabins, hotels, and houses, from Leadville to New Hampshire, Pueblo, Granby, Routt County, and then back to Gunnison again.

Lucy is a very gentle cat, who is a good companion to everyone in our house, especially our Labrador, Holly, whom she grooms daily. She spends most of her days lying in the sun: on the deck, the back of the couch, and in her heated cat bed. She’s a routine kind of girl, letting us know when it’s meal time right on time.

This month she welcomes her new BFF, Patch, from GVAWL, and is re-learning how to share a lap, food bowls and beds. In our lives, she is the “senior of the month” 365 days a year.
