PORTABLE ALTERNATIVE SANITATION SYSTEM (PASS) The Portable Alternative Sanitation System (PASS) is a simple and proven answer for basic sanitation in rural Alaskan communities. Operating since 2016 in various communities like Kivalina, Allakaket & Alatna, Chalkyitsik and Mertarvik, this system has made a difference for families, long before the current pandemic highlighted the need for clean, running water and toilet facilities. Eligible for CARES Act funding, as infrastructure which prevents the spread of COVID-19 The Mini-PASS Handwashing Cabinet is designed for areas where families typically use washbasins. Providing a sanitary way to clean hands is a crucial step in preventing transfer of diseases like COVID-19. This system operates in areas where there is no running water, with or without electricity.

Developed by Alaskans to answer wastewater challenges in unserved communities, the Heavy Duty Urine-Separating Indoor Toilet (HD U-SIT) brings indoor sanitation to homes that do not have running water. The system can be operated in different modes according to space and homeowner preference; the ventilated honey-bucket mode is simple to install and use but still brings the health benefits of reduced waste handling, fresh ventilated air, and no harsh chemicals.
