Newsletter Spring 2014 Cycle Training and much more... News Early Rider Balance Bike Training 'Early Rider' is the name given to the balance bike training in Chesterfield & NE Derbyshire schools. We are using 'Early Rider Alley Runner' balance bikes made of aluminium and carbon fibre. They are super little bikes and the company details can be found here: www.earlyrider.com The training is going really well and we have had over 1000 children learning how to balance on two wheels by Easter!

Working with the Co-op In a new initiative we have been working with Central England Co-op promoting cycling with events at theirfood stores. We provide a 'Dr Bike' repair service, cycling information and Bikeability Level 1 as well as a led ride on adjacent trails. The Co-op promote their business model and provide refreshments. We hope this will be rolled out in a larger programme later in the year.

Wheels for All Our new inclusive cycling centre 'Wheels for All Chesterfield' is now open in the Queen's Park. There are dedicated staff and a range of bikes, trikes and quads to cater for all abilities. Our website has much more detail but we have capacity for up to six riders. Bikes include a wheelchair carrying trike, 2 seater 4 wheel quad, single seat quad, hand cycle and adapted trikes plus a range of trikes for smaller children. Our website has details of how to book and a we have a dedicated phone number if you need any more details - 0785 796 7484 Photos left and above show pupils from Ashgate Croft school with Chesterfield School Sport Partnership manager Mark Tournier and Andrew Fuller from Derbyshire Sport.

Bikeability for Year 4 We offer schools a 'cycling pathway' with funded balance bike training for Reception children and Bikeability in Year 5 or 6. What is missing is dedicated Bikeability Level 1 sessions for Year 4 on the playground. Individual schools can fund this themselves. Our costs are ÂŁ150 for a group of up to 15 children (morning or afternoon sessions are available). For larger schools we can deliver 2 sessions in a day catering for up to 30 children for ÂŁ200. There will be two of our instructors so if you have children who need to learn to ride (and a suitable area) one instructor can deliver that too. Contact us for more details. Pedal Powered Electricity Our main set up is three generators powering our sound system 'Bass Ride' and the lighting display with bubble machine, LED lights and a laser. The sound system can have a mixer desk and DJ too. Great for a pedal powered party! We also have our other stand alone electricity display, the pedal powered Scalextric velodrome with two track bikes each powering a lane. Combine all this with our mechanical pedal powered smoothies for an event with a difference.

Wheely Fun Wheels News We have some new instructors joining our team this term. New faces include David, Helen and another Paul. Our other Paul, one of our long standing instructors, Paul Boler, has decided to move on to other things. With balance bike training, Wheels for All etc we are very busy at certain times of the year. Some Bikeability schools are now booking at least a term in advance. Due to the weather we now don't schedule Bikeability between December and Feb half term, this is when we concentrate on balance bike training indoors. Chesterfield SSP recently commissioned a film about our work in schools, it can be viewed on our website.

Companies that have used our services -

Wheely Fun Wheels is a co-operative of local cycle instructors and cycling enthusiasts. We deliver Bikeability training and balance bike training in many local schools. Our pedal powered fruit smoothie maker and other pedal powered devices are always popular at all sorts of events. The 'Bicycle Cafe' and cycle repairs are useful at events too. We also can advise on using bikes as a sustainable transport solution. Wheely Fun Wheels www.wheelyfunwheels. co.uk
