The ATS has planned an exciting and informative program for the 2010 International Conference, which will be held May 14 to 19 in New Orleans. Over 400 symposia, track sessions, seminars and workshops have been planned, and the programs are currently being developed and speakers secured. In addition to these not-to-be-missed sessions, the ATS is sponsoring 30 postgraduate courses on Friday and Saturday (May 14 and 15) before the official start of the conference. The postgraduate courses that will be offered at ATS 2010 are:
A Physiologic Approach to Pediatric Lung Diseases Quantitative Assessment of Lung Structure: Principles and Practical Applications Respiratory Neurobiology: What is the Latest?
Mastering Clinical Teaching Skills for Pulmonary and Critical Care
For more information, please visit the ATS Web site at www.thoracic.org/go/pg-courses. Registration forms for the 2010 International Conference and these postgraduate courses will be available online during the third week in January 2010. Since postgraduate courses require an additional registration fee and seating is limited, plan to register early to ensure admittance to the course of your choice.
ATS•2010 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE MAY 14 - 19
Where Today’s Science Meets Tomorrow’s Care
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
As part of its efforts to cut costs and become more environmentally conscious, the ATS is eliminating the print edition of the Advance Program for ATS 2010. The Advance Program will only be available online through the Society’s Web site, by the third week in January 2010. To ensure attendees are aware of special programming and other highlights, the ATS will also produce a conference brochure that will be printed and mailed to U.S. members and e-mailed to international members, also in January.
For more information, please call (212) 315-8658 or send an e-mail to conference@thoracic.org.
15th Annual MECOR Course Held in Latin America
In late October, the ATS and Asociacion Latinoamericana del Torax (ALAT) jointly sponsored the 15th annual Methods in Epidemiology, Clinical and Operations Research (MECOR) course at the Universidade Estadual Paulista in Botucatu, Brazil.
This year, the program, which began in 1994 as the International Respiratory Epidemiology course, drew 74 attendees from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Mexico, Spain, Uruguay and the United States. Of the 22 faculty members, more than half were from Latin America.
Students in the level-one course were introduced to clinical research methods, while those in the more advanced level-two course learned how to design a study and plan a research project. Those who enrolled in the third- and fourth- level courses on advanced and applied clinical research methods brought data to the meeting and learned how to analyze it and use it to write a research paper.
