PART 1- RESEARCH PART 1. Narratological analysis Genre Ready Player One was originally a science fiction novel written by Ernest Cline. The genre of science fiction is preserved in its film adaptation. In addition, the adventure genre is more relevant in the film than in the book. According to Tovar (n.d.) the genre of science fiction is characterised by: 1) The existence of fictitious technologies or developing. This feature is present in Ready Player One due to the technology used to create OASIS. This technology allows you to hurt and be hurt by someone else. Even your moves in the game mimic your movements. 2) This latter already has been invented, but unlike Oasis, you can't hurt anyone or being wounded. There are not many video games that have this feature. 3) It doesn’t focus on the description and analysis of characters and places. This genre is characterised by show and act. The film doesn’t focus on explaining how it works, it just shows it. 4) The story must be credible. In addition, it should explain how society has reached that stage. The story can't be so far from reality because the audience need to identify with the characters. This film explains how society evolved to that world. 5) Fictional characters that don’t exist in reality, as for example the robot that is in charge of Halliday’s library. It’s an artificial intelligence that challenges to Parzibal. At the end of the film we discover that it was controlled by a real person. 6) Future stages. The film is based on Earth but some technological changes. Most of the people work on improving technology or in companies where they must test video games and analyse how level up. 7) Geographical versatility. The stage changes continuously, but we can difference when they are in the real world and the fictional. In the fictional world, the film uses avatars and scenarios that don't exist.

Also, we think that this film could be classified as cyberpunk, a subgenre of Science Fiction. This genre is based on pop culture eighties. This genre is characterised by the huge importance that computers and technology have to decide the future. It’s also about how world is deteriorating because of this technological proliferation. Its plot is about a dystopic society with a huge enterprise that want to control the world by being the owner of communication and technology. There are some differences between the book and the film. As example, in the book (hypotext) Halliday (the mentor and creator of the game) was obsessed with eighties so all the levels and tests are based on this epoch. However, in the film adaptation this characteristic isn't so relevant. Also, the challenges are different due to in the film adaptation it would be difficult to keep the audience's attention on a text game of eighties.
Narrative All story needs a narrative, because of that the story is coherent and has sense. In this film some events happen to the characters, these events take part in a time and space, causing effects in society. All story needs a conflict between two characters or sides. In this case the main conflict is between the hero and the villain. The villain wants to control OASIS (Halliday’s video game). To reach this aim the villain threatens the hero and tries to kill him and people he loves. The story is composed by a lineal chronologic that is fragmented in little scenes that are about Halliday memories as videos or kind of flashback. You can see the avatar watching these videos. This lineal chronologic is intercepted by a non-lineal chronologic. There is just one story. This is about how main characters face IOI in order to control OASIS. They don't want the villain can control technology and people life. However, there are two speeches and two diegesis. In respect of the speeches, there is the reality of the characters where the story is told, with real people and in a chaotic world. In the other hand, there is another speech in how is represented the virtual reality. There are two diegesis divided in the same form as the speech. The virtual diegesis is composed by avatars and a utopian world where everything is possible, also the colors and patterns change. However, we can find little pieces of the real diegesis in the virtual

one, as Halliday’s videos that are kept in the “library” and the characters can watch them. Furthermore, when the characters are hit in the game, they can feel the pain. There is a diegetic convergence
POV Most of the story is narrated in a Third-person Point of View. However, in the beginning it's told in First-person, Wade tells the viewer how he feels in a voice-over recording. This effect is repeated in few scenes in order to make the audience empathise with the hero.
Main character According to Hidalgo (2018) There are some differences of characters in the film respect to the book: In the book Parzibal is foolproof, he never fails. He doesn’t really need help to achieve the tests. The secondary characters lose importance. In the film Parzibal is not infallible and he needs to be helped in some tasks to get the keys, secondary characters are significant. Furthermore, he meets the rest of the team before than in the book.

In the book Sorrento is obsessed about taking advantage of Halliday’s creation. He is serious and grey. In the film his tone changes and the motivation too. He is obsessed about controlling OASIS and people. Also, he is kind of an absurd character.
Archetypes The hero is the main character who in this film is Wade. In the beginning, Wade wants to control OASIS because he loves that game. But then, when he realises about what is going to happen if Sorrento wins, he changes his mind and focus on win for helping people and improving social life.
The mentor in this film is Halliday, the OASIS creator. This archetype must be a positive model role who helps or trains the hero to fulfil his mission. Halliday encourages Wade to win the challenge and change his world.
The threshold guardian is the game itself because it’s the obstacle that the hero must overcome to earn the reward. He must go up three different levels to get the control of OASIS.
The herald in this case is Halliday’s avatar because is who announces the challenge and the source that informs the hero.

The shadow character could be Irok. Irok is a character who is known because of his experience. He is one of the most experienced characters. He helps the villain to win the tests and destroy Wade. He is just interested in himself.
Wade’s allies are all his friends that he met in the game as Art3misa, Shou, Daito… They are going to help him to achieve his aim.
The tricksters in this case could be the investigators that work for Sorrento's enterprise. They are solving the tests for the villain, but they really want that Wade wins and liberate everybody.
Finally, the shapeshifter is the villain who in this film is Nolan Sorrento who, as we described before, wants to control OASIS and turn his enterprise into the best technological one.

Plot We talk about plot when we join characters and conflict in a story. Ready Player One is no only a film, it is also a book and a game, but the all have the same plot: In 2045 living in the real world has really hard, so people run away and enter in a digital world call OASIS, a virtual universe created by James Halliday. Inside the game there is challenge, the creator left his fortune and the control of OASIS to the winner of a threepart contest. Wade.

Watts is the main character of this movie, so when he past the first challenge the adventure starts. The conflict begins at that moment, when everyone wants to reach the fortune, specially one enterprise (IOI), which is trying to get over Wade and take the control.

Fan fiction and wikis On the Internet we can find enough content created by fans, mostly in websites as Wattpad. Most of them are recreation of the main story, extensions and inside stories. We want to mention the more completed ones, that include complete stories, with own characters, trailers and posters:

1. READY PLAYER ONE: LACERO Lacero is a story written by Andy Weir. It was originally written as a fanfiction. This is story tells how Lacero or Nolan Sorrento decided to join IOI. It has three parts, that seems like chapters, it also has a trailer and review. In 2016, this spin-off was named canon by Ernest Cline (Ready Player One author), so now it is part of the official story.
2. READY PLAYER ONE It includes songs, films, videogames… all things that the author use to write the novel. The girl that write it talks about adds, The ghostbusters, Dead Man’s Party and Space invaders… It is really interesting to know the book references before seeing the movie, because you will understand it way better.

We propose a videogame that converges eighties and current culture. It is a roleplaying video game for PC. The user will create his own character. Even, he can mix different well-known characters to make a new one. We will create a Just Dance for Ready Player One with 80’s music. If they go through the dance, they go deeper into the song creation and singer’s culture and style.

3. Target group According to Stratton (2018), Ready Player One grossed $53 million. It was due to the hype created for the movie; the audience was waiting for it. The @ReadyPlayerOne followers can be classified in seven different segments: YouTube Gaming, Millennial Males, Virtual Reality, Comic Fans General, Gamers, Pop Culture. There are two important targets for this film: gamers and people really interested in virtual reality who were excited to see how the film would use augmented reality. Gamers’ motivation for watch this film was different. They were attracted to the storyline gaming aspect and tests that the hero must complete.

Research conclusion. After analyzing Ready Player One target group and the excellent reception from the public. We can conclude it has impact in the audience. It had lots of fan before its release because of Ernest Cline, sci-fi, gaming and VR lovers. They were waiting for a new augmented reality film. We have learnt that the old can live with the new, they can converge in the same world. This film shows that eighties are not outdated. It takes this epoch and bring it to 2041. In this new era, 80's music and idols are still remembered. The Ready Player One followers are really active and they have created a large community. Even before its release its fans created new contents as Lacero. We are going to use a conversational, direct and simple tone as Ready Player One used. This is the tone that fits better with our target. All our experiences share the same atmosphere. We are going to converge a futuristic epoch with a huge technological development with the 80's pop culture as is used in the original version.

KPI’S As all our campaign is going to be managed by our @ReadyPlayerOne Twitter profile, we think engagement is really relevant to analyse if our campaign is working. We are going to measure the current and potential followers. Also, we are going to use one hashtag for each product, that way we can see which ones are being more followed, shared and causing more impact. To measure sales, we have done an analysis of similar products impact. We have studied which have been their tendencies and how they evolved. We have based on the data obtained to create one conversion funnel for each product. JUST DANCE Since its first version, this game always has had a loyal audience that keeps an eye on the updates and new versions. However, the sales increase in Wii more than in other platforms. Just Dance 2018 sold 75.739 units, but more than 34.250 of them were sold for Wii. That's why we have chosen this platform. (Millán, 2018) Selling this game just for Wii, we will reach at least 90.000 people. As Just Dance community is really active we think they will show interest and desire for this new version. Finally, more than 6400 people will buy our game.

CREATE YOUR OWN WORLD We have analysed Minecraft because our game is really similar to it. Minecraft have sold 144.000.000 copies and it has more than 73.000.000 active users. The Minecraft Community is really active and they like to discover new worlds to build. That's why we estimate to sell around 900.000 copies. However, we understand this game is not so popular as Minecraft and that its users prefer a more traditional world. (Escandell, 2018)
CREATE YOUR OWN CHARACTER This is a role-playing game for PS4 in which the users must complete missions. Also, it has a VR version. We have analysed World of Warcraft last expansion: Its sales exceeded 3.300.000 copies in the first day. We think that the role-playing games active users and Ready Player One fans will be really interested in this game. One of our main segments was the gamer one. People who are interested specifically in this kind of games. We estimate to sell around 15.000 copies the first day. (Blizzard)

SAMANTHA OR LACERO AND CHARACTERS’ BOOK Ready Player One original version raised the first weekend more than 53 million dollars. While the film was screened in the cinema it earned around 583.000.000 dollars. If we divide this amount into a normal ticket price, we get that this film reached around 83.000.000 people. Prequels and spin-off usually are less popular as the original version. So, we think we will reach around 42.000.000 people. That will be an amount of 294.000.000 dollars. We believe that fans that are really excited about this universe are going to find interesting our Characters' book. We estimate that 840.000 people buy this book because this kind of products are thought for really active users. (IMDB)

2. Back story and context Time and geographical space Our geographical space is the same as Ready Player One universe. This film starts five years before Wade and his friends beat IOI.
Plot Samantha joins the revolution in order to avenge her father’s death because of IOI. However, they fail in their battles and nothing goes as she expected. She decides to continue her own.
POV This film is going to be recorded in Third Person Point of View. The narrator is omniscient.
Timeline The movie is going to follow a chronological structure. All the story is told in a linear way. However, we are going to use non-linear structure as flashbacks when Samantha remembers her father’s words. This film doesn’t need interaction neither virtual reality.
Events The three most important events that take part in our film are: - Samantha’s father’s death in the beginning of the film - Building explosion due to IOI - Samantha and her squad fall into an IOI’s trap
Conflict The main conflict in this film is when Samantha must risk all for beating IOI, this way they won’t exploit anyone else. However, if she takes part in the revolution, she might end harmed.

3. Characters and attitude Samantha is our main character. We decided to create her story because we found it interesting while we were watching Ready Player One movie. We thought about telling why and how her father died and what happened after that until she meets Wade.
The other essential characters for the movie are the archetypes: (The actors that appears as the characters are just an idea)
The hero is the main character who in this film is Samantha. She is a powerful girl that want to avenge her father, but she is alone to do it until she finds the revolution and she start fighting for the people.

James, her father is the mentor, she remembers his teachings through flashbacks and listening to his advice. Her father was her hero, so she always keeps him in mind while she fights for justice. The actor: Ben Affleck
The ally is the revolution. At first, they take part in the life of Samantha as allies. After as their place of refuge and family, she won’t be alone anymore.
The shapeshifter is the company IOI, it is the villain in this story. They want to control OASIS, as well as they already have part of the control of the real world. They take advantage of poor people giving them money to then exploit them in exchange for their debts.
The Squadron is the shadow, at the beginning they fight alongside her, and they are friends, but when they look to the limit, they decide to abandon her. Actors: Matthew Dadario, Malese Jow, Chris O’Neal and Jessica Amlee

JUST DANCE: Ready Player One This game is based on the songs and characters that appear in the movie. If the user completes successfully the song, he gets extra information about why this song or singer/group was relevant in 80’s.
Ready Player One: SPECIAL EDITION The O.V. holds its fifth anniversary in 2023. For this reason, we are going to release a Special Edition. In this edition we are going to add more scenes and we are going to give to the viewer information about the characters that appear in the movie. If they want to know more, they can click on the pop-up and get more info.

BOOK OF CHARACTERS This way the audience can know all the characters that appear in the three movies and go deeper into OASIS universe. (We took this idea from characters books as Harry Potter’s or Lord of the Rings)
LACERO (Fan fiction creation canon) We are going to transform this written story into a film. It was a powerful experience when the author wrote it, so we think it will be awesome if it turns to a real film, as it is a canon we have the rights to make it.

5. User journey + platform overview We are going to start this year with the role-playing videogame from PS4 “Create your own character from Oasis”. There is also a VR version available. If the user wants to know more about this universe he can go to the original version to watch the movie. In 2020, as new entry points we are going to add a new Just Dance Wii game based on the songs and characters that appear in the movie. Also, this year we are going to launch a new PS4 game called “Create your own world”. In 2021, the update will be the film about Samantha’s story. In this movie are going to take part in new characters, so in the games “Create your character” and “Just Dance: Ready Player One” there will be new characters to play with.

In 2022, we are going to adapt Lacero, a fandom creation that happen at the same time that Ready Player One. We are going to update “Create your own character” and “Just Dance: Ready Player One” in order to add more characters to our story. Ready Player One holds its fifth anniversary in 2023. For this reason we are going to release a Special Edition from Ready Player One. In this edition we are going to add more scenes and we are going to give to the viewer information about the characters that appear in the movie as Lara Croft, Cassie Cage, Tracer... They can click on the pop-up and get more info. Also, we are going to publish a Character’s book. This way the audience can go deeper into Oasis universe.
We are going to announce all our products and transmedia experiences in Ready Player One Twitter profile. This way all the active followers of this universe can go deeper into the production. Also, we can reach current and potential viewers. 29

PART 3- REFLECTION The truth is that we felt really comfortable doing this treatment, also we spent a lot of time working together. We think it is important to agree in order to develop a project. That is why we made all the decisions together. We thought together all the parts and then we divided them in equally parts according to our skills. We both improved our skills creating images (as posters, covers, infographics…) and from nothing we have learnt how to draw in programs as Photoshop. For sure, we have understood way better how to make a transmedia extension of something that is already create. We didn't find it difficult to start creating content from scratch. We made our best to make everything as viewable as possible. We spent much time thinking about how we could make things look good and comprehensible. So, we improved in “report, reflect and present adequately, supported by visuals” which was one of our goals. As well, we tried to “innovative media in the transmedia design process” and we think it is really good what we finally got. We tried to use as many as possible of “storytelling techniques in order to engage an audience”. We have created an experience that is really related with our target group as videogames or books. To summarize, we really think that we worked extremely great together and we are really proud of what we did. We worked very hard to have this in the way we understand it should have been, we decided to make every single idea we came up with, because we thought there would be really interesting and doable for such a big enterprise as Warner Bros is.
