Season’s Greetings Corporate Turn Down or What, Congratulations on your new job! I love corporate holiday parties! It is a time when the company spends a lot of money on really good food and libations to show their staff just how grateful they are for the ginormous amount of money you made for the company this year. Consider it a company perk and enjoy! So here’s the thing. While the company holiday party is a time to celebrate, it is also a petri dish and you are under the microscope. There will be certain eyes watching you, especially since you are the new kid on the block. From supervisors to colleagues to that person who thinks you are kind of cute, you are being watched from every angle. But no pressure, right? I’m here to help you successfully navigate a holiday corporate party. First, do your research. Ask around from others in your department what previous parties have been like, what the attire is typically, can you bring a date and what are other expectations. Many company parties have themes, like the ugly sweater party or an all one color party, so be sure to read the invitation. Most company parties will require that you are at the very least dressed in business attire to formal attire, unless otherwise specified.

leave the “partying like a rockstar” for the private Christmas parties. Merry CHRISTmas and always remember the reason for the season!

We are now open for Breakfast at 7:30 am! Try out our new breakfast bowl!

293247-1

Dear LadyByrd, I just started a new job and we have a big annual holiday party. I hear it’s really fancy and I am not sure what to expect. I want to make a good impression on my new boss and colleagues. Should I be prepared to party or should I lay back and observe my first party with the company? Sincerely, Corporate Turn Down or What?

However if this is a themed party, this is NOT the time to wear something revealing, tight or your unique version of comedic attire. Everyone will not get the joke and it could be a thorn in your side and damaging your professional reputation. When you arrive at the party, wearing your holiday best, do not make a beeline to the buffet table or the bar. Take a moment to survey the room to find key people and network for a bit. One of the first people you should talk to is your supervisor to make sure that he or she knows you are there. Also, be sure to acknowledge any spouses that are there as well as introduce yours if you have one. Ensure that they are included in the conversation and not treated as arm candy. When it comes to food and beverage, remember, MODERATION. I highly recommend grabbing a bite to eat before you come. DO NOT attempt to stack the entire buffet on your appetizer plate. The same rule applies to the bar. Give yourself a 2-3 drink limit on alcoholic beverages. After that, stick to the non-alcoholic beverages. The worst thing that can happen at a company party is for you to drink too much and cause a scene. No one EVER forgets that and it could cost you your job. While mingling at the party, keep your food and beverage in your left hand to leave your right hand open to shake hands. This will take a little practice, so you won’t drop everything all over yourself and your colleague. And try to wipe your hands before shaking. NO ONE likes a wet or crumb filled handshake, ever. Lastly, do your research. If you are single, be careful who you attempt to make a love connection with. It may be the boss’s daughter or new wife or the CEO herself. Also, while this is a time to enjoy, expect that there may be light shop talk and be prepared to return the conversation. Tis the season for giving, so be sure thank your colleagues for showing you the ropes or for helping you on a project. Have fun, make a good impression, say something witty and you will be fine. And for the love of diversity, do not assume everyone celebrates Christmas, so greet everyone with a “Happy Holidays” to be respectful. And

Happy Holidays! LadyByrd If you have a question for LadyByrd the Eventista, email ladybyrdevents@gmail.com.

with Erica Savage Wilson

Greetings! I am your food blogger Erica and I invite you to the Southwest Georgia Beat’s food column, the five spoon experience! We’ve had an exciting year in SWGA; marathons, graduations and exquisite dining experiences. Let’s end our year with an addition to our local restaurant community, MiYo’ Restaurant & Global Cuisine! idreamcaviar is the heart of my universal elation of all that food produces-life, joy, relationships, unforgettable moments, memories and snapshots. The world is yours to travel on a plate using cutlery or your fingers...simple or luxe, idreamcaviar is your illustrious blog for delish dishes that I’m enlivened to present to

you. I hope you are enjoying the presentation of some of SWGA’s eateries. We have much territory to cover and I welcome suggestions within our SWGA footprint. Please continue to share your favorite local spots with me when I’m out and about, or on Facebook at idreamcaviar.com or Instagram @idreamcaviar. There’s so much to discover, taste and enjoy friend and the SWGA Beat provides excellent informative content to include the five spoon experience writings and ratings--stay connected to The Beat and bon appétit! MiYo’s Restaurant & Global

Cuisine 2820 Meredyth Drive Suite 4 Albany, GA 31707 Facebook page: MiYo’s Restaurant & Global Cuisine 229-496-1630 Can you believe we’re in the last month of the 2015? What an extraordinary year and how better to celebrate the holiday season than with a blending of family, friends and food! An exquisite plate fused with aromatic flavors is always a welcomed guest and MiYo’s is just the venue for global delight. MiYo’s is one of SWGA’s newest restaurants featuring global cuisine with vegetarian, seafood and meat selections. The menu presents a palatal excursion with flavors from Asia, Greece and North America with volumes of flavor! In your visit to Asia, try the Ultimate Pad Thai; the savor in the noodles is only matched with the heat you select for this dish—the kiss of the wok makes this experience a must. Traveling to Greece, the Lamb Burger on Ciabotta Roll is dressed with Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, purple onions and Greek yogurt sauce; it’s a must have with the fresh fried chips and sauce. This lunch or dinner favorite is lovely in presentation and every bite. And for touch of elegance and freshness, the North American Grilled Salmon with Citrus

Sauce is a beautiful fish dressed with a sauce that is creamy and delectable. Plated over a bed of rice with crispy stir-fry vegetables, this is a meal that is sure to satisfy your flavor endings. The menu also features soups such as Tomato Basil, salads, hummus, taco nachos, and desserts to include salted caramel cheesecake! This holiday season invite your visiting family and friends to global dining at MiYo’s! They’re open Monday – Saturday, 11:00 am - 10:00 pm and Sunday’s, 11:00 am – 6:00 pm. MiYo’s also features an open bar area and flat screens for your social pleasure. The beauty of the décor and warmness of the staff juxtaposes the nominal menu prices and will surely impress your date, company or group. So friend, let’s dine together and perhaps have a surprise operatic serenade by one of the lovely staff voices at your Five Spoon Experience dining delight, MiYo’s Restaurant & Global Cuisine!!!
