The project defines network as a creation of movement and interactivity between old and new. The interweaving of structure, indoor and outdoor spaces including roofs, allows for the aggregation of multiple users and engages the use of the outdoors.

In terms of design new structural elements were added to existing structure. The program focused on creating a space for students from the local architecture school to dwell and kindle social activities.

Plan 3 The new addition utilizes the space between the two buildings. The new structure intervenes between the void of the two buildings, and created an interconnected system where all of the buildings interact with each other.

All buildings on the site stayed in tact and were unchanged on the exterior. The small museum residences located on the southwest portion of the site were integrated in to the urban program of the site.

This project was inspired by the need of high strength low income housing in Hurricane Katrina recovering zones. Recycled semi-trailers were used as a point of departure for this project. The use of trailers arose from the need of durable reusable abandoned structures left from hurricane Katrina. The trailers were used to create a solid platform base in which the residences were constrained.

This base structure worked because the narrowness of the lots of New Orleans. The envisioned project was to formalistically fit within its context. A simple gable roof was implemented in addition to a dog run for natural ventilation. The addition of descending porches towards the street was use to propose community activity.

Laser cut profiles This charette asked to design four costumes for the AIA San Antonio Beaux Arts Ball and a pairing structure for Luminaria, the annual light festival in downtown San Antonio. The Initial design was a series of mylar components

that attached to the body and became illuminated through an LED system. As the design developed, the team was able to create the system in which the components would be attached on to the body.

These shapes originated from crystalline structures and then were transformed through a process of skewing, dividing, and elongating. The objects were then scaled at different increments, unfolded, laser cut and scored. With sixteen different components to utilized we were able to design four different compositions.

The components, lit with small LED lights, were wired together. The light variation was controlled by a sonar detector. The lights actively changed according to movement. The sonar receptor was attached between shapes. As the sonar grew closer to an object, the light increased brightness and flickered more intensely.

Transform Illuminate Pavilion In continuing the investigation of light, this pavilion was to be used for the Annual light festival in San Antonio, Texas. The same 16 shapes were used the create the composition for the pavilion. The final design for Luminaria consisted of two metal framed arches and a black mesh that held our components.

The goal was to create a memorable experience. The elements were detachable from the structure. Towards the end of the event, the public was allowed to reach up and grab one of the glowing shapes as a gift.

There is controversy over our diminishing resources and what the future holds. Today's generation has anxiety about what we will inherit such as financial stability, food, water, and overall happiness. This self-sustaining community provides opportunities for people to take back their sense of security, their hope for the future and their independence from the modern day consumer world. This center’s main focus is to educate the public on sustainable living and technologies.

As a sustainable living education center, this project demonstrates how to use simple building methods and local materials. The center is a composition of recycled steel, limestone, adobe brick, standing seem metal roofing and perforated metal to create a double envelope. To establish a center that demonstrates year round, drought resistant native plants of San Antonio where used throughout the design.

Social Flux Transit station The objective of this project was to find a site that was in need of an intervention. The location was chosen in a vibrantly populated section of the city of varying demographics and social structures.

The intention of the is project was to open and a portal in which a group of tourist and local can both inhabit. The site is at a point where one of most used transit stops in the city passes over the very densely populated river walk tourist attraction. This parasitic intervention creatse an interesting dichotomy between the two groups.

The structure is both foreign to the urban city and acts as tourist attraction, but is primarily used as an attractor to invite people to share the same shaded space. The panelled system is made up of triangulated polished aluminum panels which are operable for different intensities of sun penetration.

Coral Growth Case Study Micro Coral Growth

This case study was an exploration of how the coral genus platygryra, grows and lives within it’s environment. This coral is also known as brain Coral. A study of the coral at the micro level shows how the living system multiplies and created a structural system in which it organizes itself geometrically.

Through an analysis of a series of scientific images taken though a microscopic lense, I was able to mimic the growth patterns at a micro and macro level. Through biomimicry, this project is proposed to be a combination of two different types of structures: a large multiuse public building and a series of residences.

Both structures are developed from the growth system of the coral. The large structures are modeled off of the more fluid randomized growth that the coral follows at that macro scale. These are a series of interconnected spaces that grow in multidirectional ways. The spaces are separated into solid and transparent sections to better show the meandering of spaces. The smaller structures are based off of the micro growth and generally have rotational growth and stay normal to their surface.

The concept for this project began with residences wrapping a central core. The residences were then rotated outward to create better views which allowed courtyards and terraces to be created at various heights. This building was made to accommodate an

audience that would use this as a second home or resort when visiting from out of town. When the owner was not using the space It would be a rented hotel room throughout the year. This type of program was proposed for high tourist locations.
