Opera is an art form which joins singing, drama and music. The performance is given in opera house. It is a key part of western classical music which started in Italy in the end of the sixteenth century. The words of an opera are known as ‘libretto’.


HISTORY OF OPERA Opera is a Italian word which means ‘‘work’’. It is derived from Latin Opera. It was first used as a composition in which music, dance and poetry is combined. ‘Dafne’ was the first composition considered Opera as understood today around in 1597.

ITALIAN OPERA This is an art of opera in Italy and opera in Italian language. In the year of 1600 opera was born in Italy. Famous operas are performed across the world in opera houses.


GERMAN OPERA The first ever German opera was crated by Heinrich in 1627, but the music has not survived. In 1644 famous opera was produced by Sigmund. The most famous German language opera was ‘Die Fledermaus’ which is still performing in the opera houses.


FRENCH OPERA French opera was founded by the Italian whose name is Jean – Baptiste. This opera is popular in all the European country. It also performed in opera houses.


RUSSIAN OPERA Opera came to Russia in 1730s by the Italian. The composers from other countries were invited to Russia for a new operas and domestic composers were sent to other countries to learn to write new opearas in Russian language.
