VILLAGE REHABILITATION

VESCASA BASSA - PONTE DI LEGNO - ITALY 5

VILLAGE REHABILITATION

The village of vescasa Bassa is located in an isolated areain the mountains, however it has nearby attraction points. A specifically designed post was introduced, leading the way to the site from Ponte Di Legno village aswell as the ski slopes The post responds to the environmental conditions such as snow and natural surrounding (color, height, foundation...).

WAYMAKING FROM PONTE DI LEGNO VILLAGE 6

VILLAGE REHABILITATION

During summer some residents inhibit the village bringing along livestock, But During winter time the area is quite empty. The idea was to introduce new activities to the site in order to attract people to come and stay for a couple of days.

Development was split into 2 groups, first one dedicated to the cheese factory and second for residential small hubs with a common library space.

The new buildings are elevated on pilotis in order to lower the impact, preserve the natural topography of the site, and create outdoor shaded spaces underneath each volume.

Landscape is created using organised and sorted natural elements to keep this mountain nature escape feeling.

SUSTAINABLE PAVILLION

Sustainability is a critical subject to be taken care of in todays society. the pavillion exhibits futuristic design using renewable resources like bamboo, fast growing and easily transportable from nearby asian countries. For self sufficiency solar energy is integrated within the design showcasing 4 different types including a retractable roof one to protect from sandstorms.

Sustainable Addition

SUSTAINABLE LIV-INN - INNSBRUCK - AUSTRIA 20

Sustainable Addition The main idea of the project was an addition on a present building that would add to its sustainability. Choice of the building was based upon the function as well as a good level of radiation using several types of analysis from small to large scale. Due to its residential nature, the surrounding services and connections such as railway transport, river and city center were important too.

SOLAR RADIATION ANALYSIS 21

Sustainable Addition By the use of the software(Climate Consultant) analysis was made for winter and summer season using specific months for each, and according to results a % of comfortability level can be reached by using only passive solutions proposed by the software. Winter Solutions: - Space heated by direct Sunlight - Slates surface Mass to absorb heat. - Proper Glazing Dimension for Enough Sunlight

Summer Solutions: - Stack Effect - Re emissive roof surface - Proper Shading

General Strategy:

-The present roof is already an extensive green roof. -The present roof is equipped with PV panels.

The structure is based on a grid of 6 x 4 (m)

- To make proper use of the present green roof, a Greenhouse is installed. - Solar panels removed to be relocated in the design.

- Housing units are added around the green house. - Circulation is added with elevator and stairs to provide connection between the 2 buildings

RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX

RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX Design Concept The design started with a stepping hierarcy of spaces, the focus being more on the enclosure of the spaces and privacy, on the 3 well defines types of spaces: public, semi-private and private. Gradually, we opened up the spaces, creating a flowy circulation around the site, which is more welcoming and allows people to acces the whole area. We positioned the tower on the North side of the site, in order to not create shadow over the rest of the buildings. At first, it had an East-West orientation, but this changed as we rotated it North-South for better lighting in the block and better communication with the future commercial centre.

1. We opened up the space in order to create a better connection with the North side of the park, where a future commercial building will be. Also the passages between the buildings maintain the communication between them and create gates which lead to the open spaces, but in the same time they also offer a sense of privacy.

2. The next step was to develop the shape of the tower, based on solar orientation, site features and functionality of the building and its surroundings. Also, we started adding different levels to the landscape, in order to better define the open spaces. Sketch elevations to understand the volumes

personal statement

To whom it may concern, It is true that i already graduated from politecnico di milano with a masters degree in “architecture built environment - interiors but, my journey is far from over. I never failed to cease the opportunity to expand my knowledge further more, and this applies with a new chapter in my life which is my professional career, a big change full of challenges that i need to adapt myself to. the only constant is change wether it is from architecture to everything else, and this is why i embrace it, it is my doorstep to self development. Since i started learning architecture, the way i perceive the world has completely changed, i always keep a closer look on how things work from tiny appartments to giant urban landscapes, how does it interact fluidly with its context and for how long? Past, present and future have completely different needs. todays world is rapidly evolving with advancements in technology which means that flexibility needs to be taken in consideration in order to keep pace, however, this technological advancement is linked with an extremely important subject for me which is the crisis of climate change. We are in fact headed to collapse, a result from high carbon wastes, and architecture itself in my opinion, plays an important role in this matter through sustainable solutions, minimizing the negative environmental impact of buildings by efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, and space development. My career is my priority in life, i am completely devoted to provide the best in order to make a change. Thank you for your consideration. albert karam
