My name is Alberto Sanchez-Sanchez and I am Master of Architecture graduate from Technical University of Madrid (ETSAM-UPM). I finished my Master degree with a grade of A Excellent in my Final Project El palacio perdido del barroco aragonés (“The lost palace of Baroque Architecture in Aragon”), in which I proposed the rehabilitation of an unfinished Baroque palace placed in my home town. My strategy of intervention in the palace was based in the re-interpretation and improvement of the wooden structure designed by Peter Zumthor for the Swiss Pavilion at Expo 2000 in Hanover. During my research, I discovered that the Baroque palace of Used has never been included in any specialized study of the Baroque Palatial Architecture in Spain so it was a kind of “lost” building. When I presented the project, the media were really interested in the story of this “lost palace” and due to this media impact the Town Hall decided to protect the building and started the process to declare it Bien de Interés Cultural (Heritage of Cultural Interest).
Although I am currently helping the Town Hall to prepare the documentaion needed to protect the palace, my career objective is to become a productive member in an architecture practice specialized not only in the conservation of historic buildings but also in the creation of contemporary new buildings in historic contexts. As my Final Project shows, I am a passionate worker, devotee of understanding, designing and managing built environments. I do believe that each project needs a bespoke approach in order to propose innovative, creative and sustainable solutions and do believe that the best way to deal with the conservation of built heritage is to work in a multi-disciplinary teamwork. The work presented in this portfolio is a sample of the projects that I developed as a student, showing my passion for Historic Preservation.
