Amanda came to our town to shoot a ilm about the elections to the State Duma. During the visit Amanda met with students of Kurgan State University. They spoke about professional ethics of journalists and freedom of speech in our countries.

– e have an absolutely free press in Britain, – Amanda said. – It’s a huge gift, because some newspapers, for example The Sun, can decide an election, because if they’ll support some the one candidate, they make perhaps inluence people. But it is not something that the press should make, not agitate. There are the opinion that a lot of Russian journalists believe, that British and Western journalists only want to criticise Russia and don’t criticise themselves politicians. It’s not a true, the Western press is directed to criticise itself and then to other country.
Madly McKean. It’s huge story for sky. Controversially because a lot of people said: why we give so much attention to one little girl when across the world there hundreds and thousands of children die every day from poverty, a war, why we focuses on it? But sometimes it is what people want to hear about in the end of a day. Everybody has a daughter, a sister and that’s why the story was interesting.
A
lso Amanda answered the questions about the features of her work in the «Sky News»:

K
– e have 7 foreign correspondents, it is small number. The BBC for example has bureaus all over the world. So many foreign correspondents and Sky only seven. This small number and we move around a lot. For example in this year I lived in Libya, Athens, Russia.

o, Amanda and her colleagues from «Sky News» have chosen Kurgan for shooting ilm because they want to show «the real Russia». How much the Russia in the ilm of correspondents «Sky News» is “real” you can look here: http://news.sky.com/home/ world-news/article/16121856
urgan students have told about a situation with a freedom of speech in their region. They told about important problem: the most part of newspapers sponsored by money of city administration. Therefore journalists of these newspapers don’t criticize a policy of city authorities. manda said that «Sky News» is the business, the channel not sponsored by State. Therefore «Sky News» should tell stories which cause interest to spectators. And that’s why journalists tell stories which are interesting to people, not agitate.
